Hydrocarbon Source Rocks In Kazhdumi And Pabdeh Formations—A Quick Outlook In Gachsaran Oilfield, Sw Iran, Majid Safaei-Farouji, Mohammadreza Kamali, Mohammad Hail Hakimi
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Geochemical study of Kazhdumi and Pabdeh Formations as potential source rocks in Gachsaran Oilfield demonstrates that the Kazhdumi Formation has a fair to good capability of hydrocarbon generation and predominately contains type II-III kerogen. On the other hand, the Pabdeh Formation has a poor to good petroleum potential and contains different kerogen types, including type II, type II-III, type III and even for one sample, type IV, indicating different depositional conditions for this formation. The geochemical log of the Kazhdumi Formation shows that there is a close correlation between different geological parameters as noticed prominently in well number 55, which …

Hypothesis:
Zeta-potential in the presence of brine has been studied for its application within hydrocarbon reservoirs. These studies have shown that sandstone’s zeta-potential remains negatively charged, non-zero, and levels-off at salinities > 0.4 mol.dm−3, thus becoming independent of salinity when ionic strength is increased further. However, research conducted to date has not yet considered clay-rich (i.e. clay ≥ 5 wt%) sandstones.
Experiments:
Firstly, streaming potential measurements were conducted on Bandera Gray sandstones (clay-rich and clay-poor) with 0.6 and 2 mol.dm−3 NaCl brine-saturated in pressurised environments (6.895 MPa overburden and 3.447 MPa back-pressure). Secondly, the streaming potential was determined …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Research performed by the West Virginia Water Research Institute (WVWRI) in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) has identified that coal mining by-products contain significant amounts of Rare Earth Elements (REEs). REEs currently are in high demand, and extraction from coal mining reject presents a potential for commercialization if extraction is feasible. The coal mining reject include Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) in the aqueous phase and sludge from AMD treatment. A novel two split selective precipitation method was implemented to remove gangue metals, increasing the concentration of REEs in the sludge.
This process presents a two-fold benefit: 1) treatment …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Harmful algal blooms of the freshwater cyanobacteria genus Microcystis are a global problem and are expected to intensify with climate change. In studies of climate change impacts on Microcystis blooms, atmospheric stilling has not been considered. Stilling is expected to occur in some regions of the world with climate warming, and it will affect lake stratification regimes. We tested if stilling could affect water column Microcystis distributions using a novel individual-based model (IBM). Using the IBM coupled to a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, we assessed responses of colonial Microcystis biomass to wind speed decrease and air temperature increase projected under a …

Thermal dewetting of silver thin flm can lead to SERS-active Ag nanoparticles. Here, we report our progress towards using scanning probe energy loss spectroscopy (SPELS) to map the plasmonic behaviour of SERS-active Ag nanoparticles (NP) by investigating NPs produced through the dewetting study of Ag thin flms on SiO2/Si and Ti/SiO2/Si substrates. The nanoparticles size and spatial distribution were controlled by the deposition and thermal annealing parameters. The results of preliminary SPELS measurements of these structures, alongside SERS data show that there is a correlation between the Raman enhancement and the nanoparticle size and interparticle spacing.

This paper presents the results of the study of microcapsules synthesized using a novel hybrid shell of polyureaformaldehyde/SiO2 (PUF/SiO2) and a core of linseed oil. The synthesis was accomplished by facial polymerization combined with sol-gel of TEOS, and urea-formaldehyde resin to form the hybrid shell under optimal process parameters. The microcapsules were embedded in a metal coating using the electrodeposition method. Microcapsules were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM, FE-SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), particle size analyzer (PSA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The experimental results indicated that the average size of capsules synthesized umder the optimum processing …

Cotton is an affordable and durable option for clothing. However, cotton garments tend to wrinkle easily. Therefore, cotton fabrics were studied to improve their wrinkle resistance properties. In this work, curcumin was mixed in an aqueous solution of citric acid and its catalyst and applied to cotton fabric using pad-dry-cure process for both the dyeing and finishing properties. Aloe vera extract and chitosan were used to compare for the reaction of their functional groups with carboxyl groups of citric acid on cotton fabrics. The mixture of curcumin and citric acid solution showed anti-wrinkle properties on the treated cotton. There were …

Chromite ore is geologically associated with gangue materials which have lower density compared to pure chromite (FeO.Cr2O3). Gravity separation techniques are very suitable for beneficiation of low grade chromite ore. In the present study mineralogical analysis of the sample has been carried out by using Wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The beneficiation of low grade (Cr2O3% 26.88) chromite ore has been investigated using wilfley table. Optimization has been carried out using box-behnken statistical design (BBD). The experimental parameters selected are: tilt angle, water flow rate and pre-heat …

The traditional agglutination assays especially those based on polystyrene beads have been recognized as convenient tools for disease diagnosis despite their limited detection range and low sensitivity. Unlike other particles namely polystyrene beads, SiO2 and gold nanoparticles having insignificant magnetic properties, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) offer unique advantages as their magnetic properties for agglutination methods. In the presence of magnet, not only can they be used to enrich the samples, but also their aggregation can also be induced, providing sensitive and rapid measurements. This work aims to develop MNPs for aggregation-based biomolecular detection. The MNPs were surface-modified with PMAMPC via an …

A new Modified Packed U-Cell (MPUC) converter architecture with cascading is proposed in this paper. To provide an output voltage of 25 levels, the proposed cascaded MPUC needs only twelve power switches and four power sources. The converter comprises two cascaded MPUCs with DC supply in a ratio of 5 : 1. One converter is operating at low frequency (LF) and the other at high frequency (HF) that leads to lower power losses and higher levels. Besides, a variable frequency method is anticipated to produce a 25-level output voltage which has low harmonic content (THD) with the help of Selective …
