Effect Of Thiosulfate On The Passivation Of Zinc-Alloyed Anodes, (Z32120 And Z13000) At 80°C After 288h Immersion In 3.5% Nacl Solution, Thwelt Thinzar Zaw
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this research, the inhibition of passivation on Zn alloys (Z32120 with Al) and Z13000 without Al) in artificial seawater (3.5% NaCl) mixing with different thiosulfate concentrations (100ppm, 150ppm, 200ppm) were investigated electrochemically after 288h immersion at 80°C and compared the results with that of testing without thiosulfate in the environment. According to the Potentiodynamic polarization test results, it is found that the presence of thiosulfate (S2O32-) in the solution hinders the passivation that was formed during the immersion of Zn alloys between 120h and 288h at 80°C in the absence of thiosulfate. Thiosulfate effect promotes Cl- penetration for not …

การศึกษาจลนศาสตร์ไฟฟ้าของหยดน้ำในฉนวนเหลวภายใต้สนามไฟฟ้า, วิกานดา นันทนาวุฒิ
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Surrogate-Assisted Machine Learning Method For Reliability-Based Continuum Topology Optimization, Thu Van Huynh
Surrogate-Assisted Machine Learning Method For Reliability-Based Continuum Topology Optimization, Thu Van Huynh
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis proposes an efficient reliability-based topology optimization (RBTO) method that advantageously decouples cross-entropy (CE) method with Gaussian process regression (GPR) model, termed as CE-GPR. The method iteratively performs the bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) with deterministic parameters based on the most probable point (MPP) underpinning limit-state functions iteratively updated by the active learning reliability evaluation process. The GPR model approximates the spectrum of LSFs under random parameters, and hence enables a low-cost CE method for failure probability approximation. The expected feasibility function (EFF) is maximized using the CLPSO to systematically refine the GPR model by adding new (intelligent) learning …

Energy-Efficient Dynamic Directional Modulation With Electrically Small Antennas, Adam Narbudowicz, Abel Zandamela, Nicola Marchetti, Max Ammann
Articles
This letter proposes a compact and energy-efficient directional modulation scheme for small and power constrained devices (e.g., Internet of Things wireless sensors). The scheme uses a uniform circular array of monopole antennas, with a single radiofrequency chain and antenna active at a time. The antennas can be located in close proximity, offering significant size reduction. Furthermore, the schemewas demonstrated to operate successfully with an array of 0.6 λ diameter. The system does not generate additional artificial noise, limiting interference to other systems. Finally, the antenna switching sequence can be randomly generated and without fine-tuned synchronization with the transmitter.
A Four-Element Mimo Antenna For Ultra-Wideband Communications With A Rejection Band, Aale Muhammad
A Four-Element Mimo Antenna For Ultra-Wideband Communications With A Rejection Band, Aale Muhammad
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis presents the design and development of a four-element multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ultra-wideband antenna with a rejection band. This antenna is proposed for the application of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, an advanced short-range wireless communication technology with fast and stable data transmission. The antenna operates in a wide frequency range from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz, which is intended for UWB communication technology. In addition, it can suppress the WLAN frequency band (4.8 to 6.2 GHz). This frequency suppression is necessary to avoid interference from WLAN signals, which usually have a higher power density. The antenna provides a bidirectional radiation pattern …

A New Spinel High-Entropy Oxides Nanoparticles (Feconimnzn)3o4 As Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Maha Nur Aida
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
A novel (FeCoNiMnZn)3O4 HEO as an anode in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) was developed for the first time. High-entropy oxide (HEO) of (FeCoNiMnZn)3O4 was synthesized using a hydrothermal technique to control size and crystallinity. We also synthesized oxides of each element (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Zn) from HEO composition under similar condition for comparison. The samples were then analyzed using XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS elemental mapping, surface area analysis, ICP-OES, and XPS. Cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and associated coulombic efficiencies were also used to study the electrochemical performance of (FeCoNiMnZn)3O4. Three samples with different preparation conditions, HEO-3, HEO-6, …

Dual-Ligand Zinc Metal Organic Frameworks-Derived Solid-Electrolyte Interphase For Stable Zinc Anode In Aqueous Electrolytes, Penwuanna Arin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted attention for energy storage systems because of their high specific capacity, low cost, and safety. However, in mildly acidic aqueous electrolytes, several issues of zinc anodes such as dendrite formation, and corrosion, limit the practical deployment and performance of ZIBs. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is ultrahigh porosity and high internal surface areas. MOFs layer as the solid-electrolyte interphase layer to prevent the zinc anode from attaching directly to the separator. MOFs is used in batteries as the SEI layer because the pores of MOFs efficiently facilitate the diffusion and transport of zinc-ions. In this …

Modularized designs have been widely used in today's consumer electronic devices and flexible RF springs are used for electrical connections between the modules. In the meantime, aluminum alloy material becomes a common chassis option. It is well known that the oxidized chassis surface introduces a certain level of nonlinearity when contacted by the springs, as known as passive intermodulation (PIM). PIM is one of the well-known root causes of the RF desensitization (desense). This paper is focused on investigating the relationship between PIM and contact conditions of the springs, especially contact area. The PIM level behavior is explained mathematically by …

Fuel-Rich Hetero-/Homogeneous Combustion Of C3h8/O2/N2 Mixtures Over Rhodium, John Mantzaras, Ran Sui, Rolf Bombach
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The catalytic (heterogeneous) and gas-phase (homogeneous) combustion of C3H8/O2/N2 mixtures over rhodium was investigated experimentally and numerically at 5 bar and at fuel-rich equivalence ratios π = 2.0-3.5 relevant to propane Catalytic Partial Oxidation (CPO). In situ spatially-resolved Raman measurements of major gas-phase species concentrations and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) of formaldehyde were applied in an optically accessible channel-flow reactor to monitor the catalytic and gas-phase processes, respectively, while accompanying 2D simulations were carried out with detailed hetero-/homogeneous chemical reaction mechanisms. Due to the high gas-phase reactivity of propane, homogeneous chemistry could not be ignored over most of the …

Lithium (Li) deposition behavior plays an important role in dendrite formation and the subsequent performance of lithium metal batteries. This work reveals the impact of the lithiophilic sites of lithium-alloy on the Li plating process via the first-principles calculations. We find that the Li deposition mechanisms on the Li metal and Li22Sn5 surface are different due to the lithiophilic sites. We first propose that Li plating on the Li metal surface goes through the "adsorption-reduction-desorption-heterogeneous nucleation-cluster drop "process, while it undergoes the "adsorption-reduction-growth "process on the Li22Sn5 surface. The lower adsorption energy contributes to the easy adsorption of Li on …

Fiber-reinforced cement composites (FRCC) are widely used in the construction of houses and commercial buildings in many countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European countries, and the Asian countries such as China, India, and Thailand. Conventionally, the FRCC is manufactured from Portland cement, silica sand, and cellulose fiber using the so-called autoclaved curing under a designate hydrothermal condition to accelerate the hydration reaction resulting in superior properties. However, the autoclave-curing process needs a huge investment and generates highly environmental impact specially greenhouse gases due to its heavy energy consumption. Hence, this research aims to develop the …

Leveraging Machine Learning For Detecting Iot-Based Interference In Operational Wifi Networks, Josh Pulse
Honors Program Theses
IoT (Internet of Things) devices have become increasingly popular in recent years while WiFi continues to serve as primary network provider indoors. With the advancements in technology, the networks of IoT devices continue to weave closely with indoor WiFi network deployments. Both kinds of these networks primarily operate in 2.4 GHz ISM Band (though latest WiFi standards can operate in 5 GHz and 60 GHz bands, too). With the multitude of tiny IoT sensors being deployed indoors alongside operational WiFi networks, severe interference scenarios cannot be ruled out. As a result of this interference, performance of WiFi networks is bound …

Design Of Human Inspired Feet For Mithra, A High-Performance Humanoid Robot, Spencer Lyle Brewster
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the foot design for the new humanoid robot Mithra, with the goal to improve impact mitigation, natural gait throughout the gait cycle and balance. Using human gait parameters, a stiff aluminum foot was designed to emulate human center of pressure rollover trajectories. In addition, a 2D dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the gait cycle was created in Abaqus to rapidly prototype foot designs. Data from the FE model provided impact forces, parameters for distal foot power evaluation and maximum lean angles. From this model a flexible nylon foot was optimized for the given design objectives. The …

Spacecraft constellations continue to grow in numbers, capability, and sophistication, requiring in creased levels of automation to properly cooperate in achieving their objectives. This paper develops a constellation scheduling capability for collecting images of points of interest (POI) and communicating the imagery data through the constellation to established ground station terminals. Various levels of coordination are considered. First, satellites coordinate to avoid duplicate efforts for imaging POIs; second, ground stations only service a single satellite at a time for downlinking; and third, satellites may crosslink data within the constellation to enable a more timely delivery of high-valued information as well …

Medical data is frequently quite sensitive in terms of data privacy and security. Federated learning has been used to increase the privacy and security of medical data, which is a sort of machine learning technique. The training data is disseminated across numerous machines in federated learning, and the learning process is collaborative. There are numerous privacy attacks on deep learning (DL) models that attackers can use to obtain sensitive information. As a result, the DL model should be safeguarded from adversarial attacks, particularly in medical data applications. Homomorphic encryption-based model security from the adversarial collaborator is one of the answers …

There is growing evidence of the effectiveness of project-based learning (PBL) in preparing students to solve complex problems. In PBL implementations in engineering, students are treated as professional engineers facing projects centered around real-world problems, including the complexity and uncertainty that influence such problems. Not only does this help students to analyze and solve an authentic real-world task, promoting critical thinking, but also students learn from each other, learning valuable communication and teamwork skills. Faculty play an important part by assuming non-conventional roles (e.g., client, senior professional engineer, consultant) to help students throughout this instructional and learning approach. Typically in …
