Poster: Optimising Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure In Dublin Using Geecharge, Alexander Mutiso Mutua, Ruairí De Fréin, Ali Malik, Kibanza Eliel, Sahbane Marco, Pantel Maxime

Conference papers

Range anxiety is a significant challenge affecting electric vehicles use as drivers fear running out of charge without finding a charging point on time. We develop methods to optimise the distribution of charging points. EV portacharge and GEECharge solutions distribute charging points in a city by considering the population density and Points Of Interest (POI) or road traffic. This paper focuses on (1) developing and evaluating methods to distribute Charging Points (CPs) in Dublin city; (2) optimising CP allocation; (3) visualising paths in the graph network to show the most used roads and points of interest; (4) describing a way …

Study Of Si-Gan Photoconductive Switches Operating Modes Using Near-Ir Radiation, Nicolas Eduardo Gonzalez Padilla

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

One of the most promising solid-state devices for fast switching and radio frequency generation applications is the photoconductive switch (PCSS). These devices have been thoroughly explored since the late 1980s and exhibit remarkable switching properties in gallium arsenide (GaAs). With recent advances in wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor manufacturing processes, there has been an increasing interest in using WBG semiconductors to implement PCSS. WBG semiconductors could exhibit the same switching characteristics as GaAs while overcoming their poor power management and short lifetime under pulsed power conditions, making PCSS a reliable option in high-power applications. Gallium Nitride (GaN) has emerged as one …

Nanoscience and Microsystems ETDs

Within this research, I have developed a microneedle-based wearable sensor for plants and fungi, to measure the electrical impedance of different tissues. Electrical impedance measures the physical properties of a material while allowing complex biological systems to be modeled onto a simplified electrical circuit. Microneedles allow for electrical impedance to measure specific tissues without the insulative properties of the cuticle and can be applied to delicate tissues. I have demonstrated the tissue specificity, novel attachment methods, as well as use on both plants and fungi. In chapter 1, I applied microneedle-based impedance to the leaf midrib of a sorghum and …

Carrier Dynamics In Green Iii-Nitride Leds Using Small-Signal Electroluminescence, Xuefeng Li

Optical Science and Engineering ETDs

Solid-state lighting has achieved significant success over the past two decades, but the low quantum efficiency of green LEDs (i.e., the “green gap”) remains a barrier to full red-green-blue (RGB) displays in numerous applications. Combating efficiency reduction in longer-wavelength LEDs requires understanding the relative roles of intrinsic effects (e.g., wave-function overlap, carrier-current density relationship, phase-space filling (PSF)) vs. extrinsic effects (e.g., material degradation due to increased defect density, compositional inhomogeneities, etc.). A systematic study of the carrier dynamics in InGaN/GaN LEDs is very important for understanding the origin of the green gap and for providing solutions to improve the efficiency …

An Investigation Of Phase Change Induced Marangoni-Dominated Flow Patterns Using The Constrained Vapor Bubble Data From Iss Experiments, Unmeelan Chakrabarti, Ayaaz Yasin, Kishan Bellur, Jeffrey Allen

Michigan Tech Publications

Kinetic models of liquid-vapor phase change often implicitly assume that the interface is in equilibrium. This equilibrium assumption can be justified for large flat interfaces far from the source of thermal energy, but it breaks down when the liquid surface is near a solid wall, or there is significant interface curvature. The Constrained Vapor Bubble (CVB) experiments conducted on the International Space Station (ISS) provide a unique opportunity to probe this common assumption and also provide unique data and insight into phase change-driven flow physics. The CVB experiment consists of a quartz cuvette partially filled with pentane such that a …
