"In concentrating any ore on tables there is, theoretically, a critical point in sizing, beyond which it can not be expected to recover the valuable minerals; that is, valuable mineral finer than a certain size will go with the gangue and be lost. for instance, in the diagram of the Wilfley Table shown, the concentrates grade from coarse to fine as indicated, but instead of grading on down into very fine sizes farther up the table these finer sizes are found mixed with the middlings, tailings and slimes as indicated by the arrows. "One of the principal disadvantages attending the use of most of the usual solvents for Copper, such as Sulphuric Acid, Ferrous Chloride, etc., in the treatment of tailings products, is that the solvent is not regenerated upon precipitation by iron, and in fact is destroyed by the precipitant. This of course involves a dead loss of a definite portion of acid or other reagent, proportional to the amount of Copper dissolved. A solvent which would be regenerated upon precipitation is eminently desirable. At the same time, a carbonate gangue, or one of such a nature which will react with the …

It will be assumed that the outside dimensions of the site upon which the building is to be erected are one hundred by one hundred and seventy feet. As noted before, the building is to be nineteen stories plus an attic and basement, in height, or approximately two hundred and fifty-five feet from the curb to the top of the cornice. The entire building is to be of white tile with a brick backing. There will be two entrances from the main street and one from the side street.

In this test it was desired to determine the amount of water evaporated per pound of coal, and the pounds of steam consumed by main engine per kilowatt-hour output. Because of the existing conditions the test was run on only one boiler but on account of the similiarity of construction the results on the other boilers were assumed to be practically the same. The coal used was Hocking Valley Screenings, abituminous coal, which, from tests conducted by the engineer to determine the fuel best suited to the conditions of the plant, was found to give the most economical results. The purpose of the test was to determine the coat of generating one kilowatt-hour of electrical energy under existing conditions of operation. The plant under test is located at the Marquette University Power House and consists of a Filer Stowell Company simple, horizontal, now-condensing Corliss steam engine, with an Allis Chalmers Company direct current generator belt­ connected, and one Fairbanks, Morse & Company horizontal return tubular boiler. The coal used during the test was Pocahontas screenings, costing three and twenty-five cents per ton of 2000 pounds, delivered in the boiler-room.

"This thesis was undertaken to demonstrate the practical utility of measuring the efficiency of a Heine Boiler, installed in the Power Plant at the Missouri School of Mines, by the amount of CO₂ in the flue gases. The tests were made on a new boiler which had recently been installed in the Power Plant. The boiler and setting being new, the tests should show a high percentage of CO₂ in the flue gases and a high evaporative efficiency by the boiler"--page 3.

On August 29, 1912, I was requested by the Board of Health of the city of Lincoln to make an investigation to determine if possible the origin and cause of an outbreak of a disease reported as typhoid fever which was then prevailing. This outbreak was said to be most prevalent in one particular portion of the city and consequently attention was turned to that portion.
