If the contemplated structure is to serve the dual purpose of storage-shearing shed, it is better to plan a shearing shed that can be used for storage, rather than a storage shed with a view to its utilisation as a shearing shed.

A very serviceable compacting roller can be constructed at little expense by using discarded truck tyres.

The roller described here has an overall width of 5 ft. 3 in. and carries seven 9.00 x 24 semi-trailer tyres which had been discarded when the treads were worn smooth.

IN almost all breeding flocks the most serious stage of sheep loss is from birth to three days of age with the majority of these losses occurring at birth or during the first day.

The number of lambs lost at this time is rarely known, but survey work shows that on most properties ten to twenty of every hundred lambs born are dead before three days of age.

This report describes a practical current regulator system used to accurately control the current delivered by a 500 kilowatt motor-generator unit. The generator supplies its current of 2000 amperes at 250 volts to a large water-cooled air-core solenoid used by LASL Group P-7 for experiments in connection with the Sherwood program.

After a general discussion of the system specifications and the basic regulator loop, each of the components in the basic regulator loop is described in considerable detail. TERMITES are commonly but erroneously called "white ants."

Actually they are more nearly related to cockroaches than to ants, but their general appearance and subterranean habits have given strong support to the popular designation.

The tests are in four main parts—

(a) the physical properties of the tractor;

(b) the power of the engine, and its stationary outlets—the belt and the p.t.o;

(c) the power on the drawbar when working on a formalised test surface or track;

(d) the reliability of the tractor when running under test, and its condition after the test.

I realise, however, that many apiarists possess both the skill and equipment to make hive-bodies, and that some at least can occupy slack periods profitably in this manner.

IN recent years, much sound advice has been made available to poultry farmers to assist them in developing their properties and operating them on profitable lines.

IRRIGATION in the south-western portion of Western Australia is mainly confined to the coastal plain west of the Darling Range where the three main irrigation districts of Harvey, Collie and Waroona have been established by the State Government.

The Government-controlled irrigation areas extend southward from Waroona (70 miles from Perth) to Dardanup (120 miles from Perth) and have an average width of about five miles.

"This thesis presents a method of designing spiral reinforced, eccentrically loaded, concrete columns on the basis of the 1957 American Association of State Highway Officials specifications.

Equations from AASHO, in conjunction with equations derived in this thesis, are programmed for and solved by the IBM 650 digital computer. The data obtained from the computer is plotted such that, given the normal load and moment on a column, the minimum required area or reinforcing steel may be read directly from the graph.
