Mass Transfer To Drops Moving Through Power Law Fluids In The Intermediate Reynolds Number Region, Robert M. Wellek, Türker Gürkan
Mass Transfer To Drops Moving Through Power Law Fluids In The Intermediate Reynolds Number Region, Robert M. Wellek, Türker Gürkan
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The mass transfer rate to fluid spheres is calculated for power law and Newtonian fluids by using the intermediate Reynolds number stream functions of Nakano and Tien (1970) and Yamaguchi et al. (1974), respectively. The Sh increases with increases in Re and Pe and decreases in n. Better results are obtained with Nakano and Tien's functions when Re > 10 and with Yamaguchi's functions when Re < 10. Copyright © 1976 American Institute of Chemical Engineers
Process Optimization By Flow Sheet Simulation, L. D. Gaines, J. L. Gaddy
Process Optimization By Flow Sheet Simulation, L. D. Gaines, J. L. Gaddy
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Optimization of large or complex chemical processes often requires simplifying the system to reduce the mathematics to a form manageable by available algorithms or to reduce the time required to perform the computations. In many cases, such simplification alters the solution of the problem. Flow sheet simulation programs are ideally suited to the study of chemical processes, although the computational time is generally considered excessive for detailed optimization of complex systems by the usual procedures. This paper discusses the modifications needed to apply flow sheet simulation programs to the optimization of chemical processes. The advantages and disadvantages of the use …

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The objective of this paper is to present general techniques for simulating helicopter flight trajectory response. During flight the pilot manipulates the controls either to trim the helicopter for steady flight by balancing the external forces and moments or to produce a desired maneuver by controlling the unbalance of these forces and moments. Discussions of the physical phenomena involved with the aerodynamics of the rotors and fuselage are given in [1] through [3]. The simulated control function will be composed forward-aft cyclic, lateral cyclic, pedal, and collective. This control will be represented by the vector

Computer Analysis Of 3-Phase Induction Motor Operation On Rural Open-Delta Distribution Systems, Stephen C. Seematter, Earl F. Richards
Computer Analysis Of 3-Phase Induction Motor Operation On Rural Open-Delta Distribution Systems, Stephen C. Seematter, Earl F. Richards
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Open-delta/open-delta and open-wye/open-delta transformer banks are often used as an economic means of supplying simultaneous single-phase and 3-phase loads in rural areas. If the 3-phase load is an induction motor, the inherent voltage unbalance causes increased losses and uneven heating that may lead to motor failure. Often these motors are submersible or deep well pump motors located in remote unattended areas or air conditioning motors which may not have sufficient over-design to handle the voltage unbalance. The theory analyzing the open-delta distribution system has existed for many years, however, because of the tedious and almost infinite differences in distribution topology, …

A Computer Graphics Analysis Of A Freeway Merge Control System, Thomas Alan Risher
A Computer Graphics Analysis Of A Freeway Merge Control System, Thomas Alan Risher
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
In 1975, C.S. Bauer completed a doctoral dissertation at the University of Florida which treated the Green Band Merging Control System on I-75 in Tampa, Florida. In this work, Bauer suggested the possibility for the use of computer graphics as a toll for analysis of the bands generated by the Green Band Control System Simulation developed in his dissertation. The use of computer generated movies of the bands displayed to ramp drivers by the system allows the comparison of various band control strategies without the need for field implementation and testing. With the goal of producing such films in mind, …

The Effect Of Sweep Rates On Linear Polarization Resistance Measurements, Ronald S. Tulino
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A study of Linear Polarizations Resistance Measurements for silver metal immersed in a solution of AgNO3 and HNO3 to determine the effect of varying potential sweep rates has been made. Results indicate that for the system under investigation the Polarization Resistance is a non-linear function of potential sweep rate.
Computer Analysis Of The Flow Of A Dissociating Gas Through A Porous Matrix, David P. Lippy
Computer Analysis Of The Flow Of A Dissociating Gas Through A Porous Matrix, David P. Lippy
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A computer model has been developed to analyze the flow of a dissociating gas through a porous metal matrix. The program predicts the transient temperature distributions through the coolant gas and matrix along with the pressure distribution and mass flow rate. The differential equations used in developing the program are documented in the literature of represent logical extensions of documented equations. The derivation of the finite difference equations is presented. Comparisons of experimental data with computer predictions are shown and indicate that the predictions fall within the experimental error in the data. A source listing of the computer program is …
A Simulator For The Motorola M6800 Microprocessor, Carolyn Elizabeth Jordan
A Simulator For The Motorola M6800 Microprocessor, Carolyn Elizabeth Jordan
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The Motorola Company has developed a microprocessor called the M6800 Microprocessor. While the microprocessor is being configured, it is general practice to develop the software at the same time. This is where simulation of the proposed hardware operation can become very important to the success of the design effort. The simulator duplicates the microprocessor execution of machine language instructions on another computer. The simulator discussed in this paper is denoted the SIM6800. The purpose of this paper is to describe the structure, coding, and execution of the SIM6800 simulator. A User's Guide and sample program have been included.

A Differential Sample And Hold Technique That Rejects Offset Voltages, John Adams Davis
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This research report discussed modern sample and hold theory and techniques and then uses them to develop a new differential sampling concept to solve a real engineering problem, involving the synchronous demodulation of three amplitude modulated direction cosine signals in an unusual noise environment. The problem is discussed in detail and a detailed circuit design solution given. Additionally, the results of a breadboard test of the concept is given that shows the circuit to have a 60dB offset voltage rejection ratio.

Mass Loadings Of Selected Water Quality Parameters For The State Of Florida, Charles D. Miller
Mass Loadings Of Selected Water Quality Parameters For The State Of Florida, Charles D. Miller
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The mass loadings of pollutants common in surface waters result from the discharges of many different sources. In the last few years it has been noted that nonpoint sources contribute more pollutants than point sources. This is because in many cases the point source discharges have been, by law, reduced drastically. In the State of Florida many water quality parameters were examined to estimate the mass loadings in streams related to, drainage area, average flow, land use, soil type and management practices. A total of sixteen streams were examined. The information was first calculated for mass loadings as a function …
Multicoupled Bandpass Filter Design Using A Multiple Feedback Configuration, Robert J. Martin
Multicoupled Bandpass Filter Design Using A Multiple Feedback Configuration, Robert J. Martin
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
In this paper, two methods for the design of active analog feedback bandpass filter pairs are examined. A third method is presented that does not use extra amplifiers for summation nor multicoupling. This third method uses identical bandpass amplifies and employs resistor summing to provide multicoupling. The name of this configuration is the "Dual Amplifier Bandpass Filter Employing Resistor Summing" (DABFERS). This configuration is economically attractive, has low sensitivity and better phase lag characteristics. In addition, third order prototypes are examined and a solution method for higher order prototypes is suggested.

Application Of Solar Energy To The Solvent Reclamation Industry, Arthur H. Litka
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
An analysis of an operational industrial acetone reclamation system is performed to ascertain the possibility of its adaptation of solar thermal energy augmentation using fixed orientation, flat plate solar collectors. Currently, the system utilizes and oil fired heater for the thermal input. The water is heated to 185°F (85°C) and circulated through a heat exchanger which is immersed within the contaminated acetone solution. The solvent is thereby vaporized, condensed, and drawn off for reuse. Analytical models of two possible configurations utilizing a series of commercially available, flat plate solar collectors, a hot water storage tank, and an oil fired auxiliary …
