Hierarchical Guided Enhanced Multi-Objective Firefly Algorithm, Jia Zhao, Zhizhen Lai, Runxiu Wu, Zhihua Cui, Hui Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The multi-objective firefly algorithm is easy to produce oscillation and aggregation phenomenon in the solution process, which leads to weak development ability and poor solution accuracy. Application Of Naoh Modified Micro-Polyethylene As Storage Material For H2, Tawanda Matamba, Hussein R. Abid, Masoumeh Zargar, Alireza Keshavarz, Stefan Iglauer

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

H2 is increasingly regarded as a decarbonized solution for the increasing energy demand. However, due to its low density, H2 cannot be easily compressed, and there is a need for materials that can store large amounts of H2. Here we tested H2 adsorption capacity of micro-polyethylene (MicroPE) – a significant environmental pollutant - at 1–70 bar and 30 °C. H2 adsorption capacity increased with increasing the adsorption pressure (from 0.06 mol/kg at 17.21 bar to 0.20 mol/kg at 68.11 bar for raw MicroPE). MicroPE activated with aqueous NaOH significantly changed H2 adsorption under the same operating conditions. H2 adsorption increased …

Advective And Diffusive Gas Phase Transport In Vadose Zones: Importance For Defining Vapour Risks And Natural Source Zone Depletion Of Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Kaveh Sookhak Lari, Greg B. Davis, John L. Rayner, Trevor P. Bastow

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Quantifying the interlinked behaviour of the soil microbiome, fluid flow, multi-component transport and partitioning, and biodegradation is key to characterising vapour risks and natural source zone depletion (NSZD) of light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) petroleum hydrocarbons. Critical to vapour transport and NSZD is transport of gases through the vadose zone (oxygen from the atmosphere, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), methane and carbon dioxide from the zone of LNAPL biodegradation). Volatilisation of VOCs from LNAPL, aerobic biodegradation, methanogenesis and heat production all generate gas pressure changes that may lead to enhanced gas fluxes apart from diffusion. Despite the importance of the gaseous …

Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund

Induction motors (IMs) must meet high reliability and safety standards in mission-critical applications, such as electric vehicles (EVs), where sensorless control strategies are fundamental. However, sensorless rotor speed estimation demands improvements to overcome filtering distortions, tuning complexities, and sensitivity to IM model mismatch. Algebraic methods offer inherent filtering capabilities and design flexibility to address these challenges without introducing additional dynamics into the control system. The objective of this paper is to provide an algebraic estimation strategy that yields an accurate rotor speed estimate for sensorless IM control. The strategy includes an algebraic estimator with single-parameter tuning and inherent filtering action. …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

In the realm of medical diagnosis, intuitionistic fuzzy data serves as a valuable tool for representing information that is uncertain and imprecise. Nevertheless, decision-making based on this kind of knowledge can be quite challenging due to the inherent vagueness of the data. To address this issue, we employ power aggregation operators, which prove effective in combining several sources of data, such as expert thoughts and patient information. This allows for a more correct diagnosis; a particularly crucial aspect of medical practice where precise and timely diagnoses can significantly impact medication policy and patient results. In our research, we introduce a …

Redesign Of Leg Assembly For Remote Walking Training Device To Improve Gait Kinematics, Jacob Anthony

Mechanical Engineering Theses

As modern medicine has improved, the average age of patients has increased. This has cause a growing number of patients to develop disabilities over time due to spinal cord injuries and stroke among other neurological ailments. This has led to an increased interest in developing robotic exoskeletons to help patients with neuromuscular rehabilitation. However, most exoskeletons do not accurately replicate the natural human gait kinematics due to a lack of degrees of freedom at the designed knee joint. In this thesis, the leg assembly for a robotic rehabilitation (RoboREHAB) device is redesigned to improve the gait kinematics and a reinforcement …

Air Quality Assessment On Local And Hyperlocal Scales, Zhiyao Li May 2024

Air Quality Assessment On Local And Hyperlocal Scales, Zhiyao Li

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

Air quality monitoring across local and hyperlocal scales has attracted increased attention from both the public and research community. There are several approaches such as passive samplers and low-cost air quality sensors, depending on the pollutant and measurement objectives. Local and hyperlocal air pollutant measurements help to characterize local emission sources such as traffic and industry, including separating these signals from large scale influences (e.g., urban and regional scales), and better understand how land use types and meteorology influence pollutant spatiotemporal patterns. Low-cost sensors (LCS) are now a popular approach to monitor several criteria pollutants (e.g., particulate matter (PM), ozone, …
