Molten ferrite systems are used in the smelting and refining processes in steelmaking, to reduce the loss of metals in slags and to accelerate reaction rates. Here, high-energy x-ray diffraction experiments have been performed on aerodynamically levitated molten spheres of 43BaO-57FeOX and 43SrO-57FeOX at 1873 K using laser beam heating. The composition was varied within the range of x = 1-1.5 by changing the oxygen partial pressure of the levitation gas. The corresponding x-ray pair distribution functions have been interpreted using empirical potential structure refinement (EPSR) modeling. In oxygen-rich melts (x = 1.5), our EPSR models indicate very similar structures …

Electrical Engineering
This paper focuses on prototyping various maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques used in wind energy conversion systems (WECS) for response time monitoring. MPPT plays a crucial role in optimizing the power extraction from wind turbines by dynamically adjusting their operating conditions to track the maximum power point. The response time of an MPPT algorithm determines how quickly it can adapt to changes in wind conditions and maximize power output. In this study, we implement and compare multiple MPPT techniques on an emulated WECS. Several commonly used MPPT techniques, such as perturb and observe (P&O), incremental conductance (IncCond), and tip …

A Multi-Model And Multi-Agency Approach To Expand The Flood Inundation Mapping Capacity Of The Us National Water Center, Samuel Jay Oldham
Theses and Dissertations
The most accurate numerical model for simulating flood extents of rivers has long been a subject of debate. While specialized models exist for specific hydraulic features, we advocate for the principle that the best model is the one the user is familiar with, has adequate data to support input requirements and limitations, and will consistently employ. To support this approach, we have developed a database schema optimized to store riverine flood inundation model output files. This schema is designed to assist U.S. cities, counties, states, and other flood management agencies in leveraging their existing model-generated flood maps, regardless of the …

Theses and Dissertations
Two-Key Dependent Permutation (TKDP) algorithm for generating permutation sequences of fixed sizes, TKDP based Symmetric Block Cipher (TKDPSBC) and TKDP Audio encryption are being proposed in this thesis. TKDP algorithm is capable of generating different sequences for different key pairs. This makes it suitable for constructing dynamic S-boxes and P-boxes that have more degree of randomness and non-linearity to resist cryptanalytic attacks. Rigorous statistical tests validate the efficacy of the generated permutation sequences, affirming their suitability for cryptographic applications in conjunction with Fiestel network-based block ciphers. TKDPSBC encrypts a plaintext block into a ciphertext block of the same size. TKDP …

Objective It is challenging to control the borehole trajectories during directional drilling in complex strata in underground coal mines, resulting in significant deviations from the designed trajectories. Given this, this study proposed a method for tracking and controlling directional borehole trajectories based on model predictive control (MPC). Methods Focusing on the directional drilling process conducted using a screw drill, this study investigated the movement patterns of the directional screw drill by analyzing the characteristics of directional drilling in complex strata in underground coal mines. Based on the kinematic theory, this study developed a borehole trajectory extension model for sliding directional …
