Background. Research output among orthopaedic surgery applicants remains an important factor in the orthopaedic surgery residency selection process. However, there is limited literature comparing objective measures such as research productivity across different types of orthopaedic surgery applicants. We aim to determine if students who match at their home programs have significantly different research productivity and, secondarily, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) membership rates, compared to those who match at external programs.

Background. Pyogenic granulomas (PGs) are benign vascular lesions commonly encountered in primary care settings. They are often linked to trauma, hormonal changes, infections, or medications. While traditional treatments such as excision, curettage, and silver nitrate application are the treatment of choice, recurrence is possible, and they may result in discomfort, anxiety, or scarring. This case highlights the successful use of salt packing, a low-cost, minimally invasive alternative, for a PG resistant to conventional therapy.

Abstract

Online winter intersession courses have become an increasingly important strategy for universities seeking to support accelerated student progression while generating incremental tuition revenue. This study examines ten years of winter intersession enrollment data from a public, master’s-level comprehensive university in the Midwestern United States to identify course characteristics associated with higher student enrollment. Using 12,520 individual enrollment records, the analysis focuses on course type (general education versus major requirement), course classification (lower level, upper level, blended undergraduate/graduate, and graduate), and course discipline. The dual-identity leader (D-IL) is an individual assigned to one job description yet is, in practice, fulfilling an additional position’s role. This secondary role is self-determined; has not been assigned yet is being allowed by those with governance and/or executive authority. Three case examples of the D-IL are presented and discussed as a problematic leadership configuration for an organization. The personal characteristics driving this approach are identified as a foundation for clarifying the organizational consequences of such an executive leader. Preventative and corrective tactics are discussed that eliminate or minimize the adverse impact of the D-IL’s organizational behavior.

This study examines the effectiveness of role-playing-based counseling services in enhancing empathy among children at Juvenile Rehabilitation Center Class I Martapura. Employing a quantitative approach, the research utilized a one-group pre-test post-test experimental design to measure changes in empathy levels before and after the intervention. A total of 32 children participated in the study. Data were collected using two instruments: the Empathy Scale and the Role-Playing Engagement Questionnaire. The intervention consisted of structured role-playing sessions designed to improve both cognitive and affective components of empathy. The research employed an experimental approach with a single-subject design (SSD). One participant, a student from Yogyakarta, Indonesia was selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation guidelines and a gadget addiction scale. Data analysis in single-subject research emphasizes individual data, and therefore, this study utilized visual analysis through graphical representations. This study aims to map global trends in peace counseling research using a bibliometric approach. Data were taken only from the Scopus database, focusing on publications containing keywords related to peace counseling, such as peace counseling, peace psychotherapy, and peacebuilding therapy. The analysis was conducted on 769 selected documents published between 1937 and 2025. The results showed a significant increase in publications since 2020, reflecting the growing need for counseling approaches that support peace and psychological well-being. In this colloquium, we will present six years of collaborative research on approximations of practice in mathematics teacher education, exploring how these approximations shape teacher preparation and addressing issues of equity and authenticity in instructional design. Foci include past findings, current challenges, and future directions, drawing from the recently published book edited by the colloquium leaders: Promoting Equity in Approximations of Practice for Mathematics Teachers. Mathematics teachers have the power and responsibility to center equity in their teaching practices. Yet their framings and mindsets about equity can impact whether and how they use equitable teaching practices. In this manuscript, we describe how secondary mathematics teacher candidates responded to two equity vignettes focused on (1) gender identity and (2) race and tracking. We wrote these vignettes to expose candidates to situations they may encounter and decisions they may need to make as mathematics teachers. Purpose: The aim of this article is threefold: to gain detailed insights into academic employees’ experiences and perceptions of human resource (HR) practices; to identify the challenges and opportunities perceived by academic actors in these practices; and to provide recommendations for further research.

Design/methodology/approach: The study involved 17 key informants from Polish (8), Maltese (5), and Finnish (4) universities. Data were analysed using semantic thematic analysis, resulting in a rich and nuanced understanding of the experiences shared by participants.
