It is an ability that goes to the very heart of invention—not just aesthetic invention, but creative thinking itself.

In this project, the children have before them a piece of paper 42” high that is pinned to the wall. A child is given a length of bamboo about as long as they are tall, to which a brush has been inserted. Because the handle of the brush is so long, even a small movement of a child’s hand can create a startlingly long mark on their large paper. This is a thrilling experience for a child, and it offers the opportunity to create a very different vocabulary of marks than they could with a small brush.

The Cut-up Painting Project uses this idea to open the door onto a valuable experience: take something which you thought of as whole, complete, finished, then literally cut it to pieces, and then reassemble it to discover a completely new set of possibilities.

The Stretched Fabric Painting Project, Barry Goldberg

One of the first things children will experience is that it feels completely different to paint on fabric stretched over a frame, rather than on a piece of paper lying on a hard floor. The fabric has give to it, and texture. Most significantly, I use patterned fabrics, which is to say, before a child has even made a mark, there is something for them to consider and respond to. The heart of this project lies in the dialogue between the pattern the child encounters and the marks the child makes.

The Impact Of Emotional Intelligence On The Leadership Of Elementary School Principals, Berteil Yousefi

Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to determine how the key emotional intelligence (EI) dimensions of self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, and relationship management impact the leadership effectiveness of exemplary elementary school principals in terms of decision making, interpersonal relationships, and overall school climate.Methodology: Thirteen elementary school principals from Stanislaus County, Northern California, with at least 3 years of experience participated in semi-structured interviews. Data were transcribed and analyzed using Moustakas’s (1994) transcendental phenomenological approach, facilitated by NVivo 15 software. Trustworthiness was ensured through member checking, peer debriefing, and interrater reliability (80%).

Findings: Seven major themes emerged. First, self-awareness …

Competitive Equity In Oregon Interscholastic Athletics: Perceptions Of Public High School Varsity Head Coaches, Samuel Nelson

This quantitative cross-sectional study examined how Oregon public high school varsity head coaches perceive competitive equity between public and private schools in Oregon School Activities Association athletics. Guided by distributive justice theory, the study explored overall fairness perceptions and structural factors influencing those perceptions. A statewide survey yielded 321 usable responses. The instrument included Likert-scale items measuring perceptions of fairness, resources and staffing, enrollment boundaries, competitive success factors, and policy-based multipliers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, t tests, analysis of variance, and multiple regression. This qualitative narrative inquiry study explored the lived experiences of Long-Term English Learners (LTELs). LTELs are students who remain classified as English learners for six or more years. Limited research on LTELs’ perceptions of reclassification limits educators’ ability to design effective reclassification practices. This study examined LTELs’ perspectives on barriers to reclassification, existing school supports, and socioemotional experiences. The study was guided by a conceptual framework integrating sociocultural theory and empathy. Semi-structured empathy interviews were conducted with 11 LTELs from three rural high schools. Interview transcripts were analyzed to identify themes while preserving each participant’s unique narrative.

Despite substantial policy investment in apprenticeship expansion, fewer than 0.4% of the American workforce participates in registered apprenticeship programs, with adoption rates remaining particularly low among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This qualitative multiple-case study examined the rationale, structure, implementation, and sustainability of formal apprenticeship programs across 11 SMEs representing manufacturing, woodworking, healthcare, energy, and food processing sectors. Three supplemental interviews with workforce development intermediaries and state-level apprenticeship support organizations provided contextual insight into regulatory processes and institutional supports. Background: Graduate admissions have long relied on standardized tests despite evidence that these exams can disadvantage applicants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, underrepresented groups, and nontraditional pathways. The portrayal of Black people in advertisements, novels, art, and film has perpetuated harmful stereotypes which associate Black men and women with negative traits that justify their marginalization, such as the "Coon" stereotype that frames Black men as lazy or the "Mammy" stereotype that positions Black women as subservient. This was a student-tailored program that offered a brief overview of the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and AI in resume building and interviews. The biggest take away was that automated systems do not recognize resumes and recorded interviews that deviate outside of an expected pattern. The value of this program was showing students that with a bit of additional research into the ATS and AI systems of the company they applied for, they can optimize their resume and their interviewing skills to avoid being "filtered out" in their job search. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the perceptions of law enforcement leaders regarding how to address the missing piece of the National Incident Management System (NIMS): the initial, chaotic phases of large-scale incidents. Specific elements investigated included the major challenges faced by incident commanders, the necessary knowledge and skills required, effective training models, the receptivity of the law enforcement community to new and/or additional training, any perceived implications for personnel, and evidence-based guidelines and recommendations from policymakers and leaders.
