Beginning in 1925, evangelical Protestants largely left American politics. During the late 1960s, the pro-life movement was a largely liberal, Roman Catholic cause focused on reversing liberal state abortion laws. After the Supreme Court's ruling on abortion in Roe v. Wade (1973), the political landscape changed dramatically. Over the next decade-and-a-half, evangelicals, including Southern Baptists, re-entered American politics, eventually becoming the face of the pro-life movement and the conservative Religious Right. Southern Baptists in particular, were motivated to join the pro-life movement by statements and material put out by prominent evangelicals, including books, documentaries, and biblical commentary material that laid …

This study examined the relationship between cultural identity and leadership success among African American male executives. Contextualized within leadership studies and urban education, the study sought to understand how cultural identity functions as a central and strategic asset in navigating executive leadership environments. Drawing on Social Identity Theory and informed by scholarship on leadership and resilience, this study attempts to deepen understanding of how identity shapes leadership practice, decision-making, and sustained success within predominantly White institutional contexts.

Secondary dual language and immersion (DLI) teachers who teach content courses, such as social studies or science, balance two central responsibilities: meeting content-area standards and supporting students’ language development (Cammarata & Tedick, 2012). Managing these responsibilities presents challenges when preparing and using instructional materials in languages other than English (Moate, 2014; Morton, 2013; Skinnari, 2020; Sun, 2017). Martial education, particularly Muay Thai, rarely offers formal educator training, and what does exists is rarely backed by research. Educators frequently develop in isolation, within communities lacking evidence-based frameworks. Some practitioners may find their way to pedagogical knowledge, but most do not. Living Muay Thai (LMT) was founded in 2020 to address these gaps. This qualitative phenomenological study evaluated LMT’s impact on martial educators after its first five years (April 2020-July 2025) and identified 11 areas for future development. The purpose of this practitioner inquiry was to examine how trauma informed behavior support strategies influence teacher confidence and instructional decision making in an elementary school setting. This study was conducted in a low socioeconomic status K–4 school and included general education teachers, special education teachers, and interventionists. Data were collected using a mixed-methods approach, including a pre-survey, classroom observations, and teacher reflection journal entries. Survey data assessed teacher confidence and perceptions of trauma-informed practices, while observational and reflection data provided insight into classroom implementation and teacher mindset. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework adopted by schools to proactively teach and reinforce expected and prosocial student behaviors. The framework is implemented across three tiers and provides opportunities for data collection to support decision-making at each level of intervention. PBIS emphasizes clear behavioral expectations, consistent reinforcement, and systematic responses to behavior within a schoolwide system (Simonsen et al., 2022; Meyer et al., 2021). Students struggle to remain on-task throughout long periods of time in class. This results in off-task behaviors and a lack of focus. As a result, this keeps students from maximizing their achievement. Research has shown that classroom activity breaks can help reduce off-task behaviors and improve on-task behaviors for students. This inquiry-based research study aims to find out if classroom activity breaks can improve on-task behaviors, classroom enjoyment for the students, and student behavior. This inquiry-based research project aimed to identify the essential components of an effective gifted education program. The study examined which factors of a gifted pull-out program impact student learning through identifying consistent patterns. A mixed-methods approach was used. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered on program structures, instructional approaches, and teacher preparedness. This study gathered information from peer-reviewed articles and survey responses from four Iowa gifted educators. The results revealed that while there are consistencies across many pull-out programs, there are many different goals. This inquiry-based capstone project examined the impact of explicitly teaching behavioral expectations on student behavior and overall classroom functioning in an elementary classroom. The study was conducted in a third-grade classroom with 17 participating students over a six-week period. The identified problem was the loss of instructional time due to frequent minor disruptions, inconsistent transitions, and unclear behavioral expectations. The intervention focused on proactively teaching, modeling, practicing, and consistently reinforcing classroom expectations. Data was collected using quantitative behavior tracking logs, including the frequency of minor disruptions, major incidents, teacher redirections, and instructional time lost. The study explored the effectiveness of explicit phonological awareness instruction compared with traditional classroom literacy instruction in supporting early reading development among kindergarten students, particularly those at risk for reading difficulties. Drawing on Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST) data from two cohorts, the results showed varying degrees of difference in overall reading proficiency between the two instructional approaches. These findings indicate that while both approaches support student literacy growth, early, systematic instruction in phonological awareness yields more rapid initial gains and a higher proportion of students meeting benchmarks. Educators are trained to diagnose and fix gaps in students’ skills and knowledge. This pedagogy often leads to deficit thinking, where instructors blame students’ identities or backgrounds for challenges in school. With deficit thinking leading toward inequitable outcomes, recent research has responded with asset thinking to recognize students’ strengths, yet its intersection with instructors’ feedback remains largely unexplored.
