Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The aim of the study was to demonstrate changes in 25(OH)D concentration, bone resorption indicators and physical fitness in female handball players as a result of their exposure to the sun, diet and exercise load during the six-month training period from mid-March to mid-September, i.e. the time when the sun exposure is the highest during the calendar year. Twenty-two women handball players participated in the study. Due to the random occurrences and exclusion criteria, 20 players completed the project. Biochemical analysis of blood, aerobic capacity, running speed and power tests (Wingate test, squat jump, counter movement jump, etc.) was …

Exploring The Thinking Processes Of Female Students In Solving Number Pattern Problems Based On Self-Directed Learning, Lailia Maghfiroh, Yayan Eryk Setiawan, Sikky El Walida

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

Problem solving in mathematics requires integrating conceptual understanding, procedural knowledge, and logical reasoning. This qualitative exploratory case study investigates the intuitive and analytical thinking processes of two female students with contrasting levels of Self-Directed Learning (SDL) in solving number pattern problems. Data were collected through written problem-solving tasks and semi-structured interviews and analyzed descriptively. In this case study, the student with high SDL tends to use analytical thinking, including systematic data organization, strategic planning, and reflective evaluation, while the student with low SDL tends to rely on intuitive thinking, using rapid pattern recognition and prior experience without systematic verification. These …

Development Of Problem-Based Teaching Modules On Linear Systems Of Equations And Inequalities To Improve Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills, Elsya Suharnita, Kartini Kartini, Sehatta Saragih

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

This study addresses the low mathematical problem-solving competency among Indonesian students, as evidenced by the PISA 2018 results that showed 71% failed to meet the minimum mathematical competency level. This study aims to develop a problem-based learning (PBL) module for systems of equations and inequalities content to improve Phase E students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. Using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, this study involved expert validation, a small group trial with 12 students, and field implementation using a posttest-only control group design with 24 students in the experimental group and 25 students in the control group. The results …

Augmented Reality In Physics Learning: Trends, Development Patterns, And Instructional Practices From Systematic Literature, Muhammad Musyaddad, Achmad Samsudin, Duden Saepuzaman, Ahmad Aminudin, Nisaul Afifah

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

This study examines recent developments in the use of augmented reality (AR) in physics education within the evolving landscape of educational technology. The aim is to provide a comprehensive mapping of research trends, pedagogical approaches, and methodological characteristics of AR-based physics learning. Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search across four major databases identified 62 eligible studies published over the past five years. The findings reveal a consistent pattern in which AR is primarily used to support conceptual understanding of abstract physics topics, particularly electricity, mechanics, and magnetism, through inquiry-based and laboratory-oriented learning approaches. These implementations are commonly developed using systematic …

Bibliometric Mapping Of Problem-Based Learning In Primary Science Education, Lintang Auliya Kurdiati Apr 2026

Bibliometric Mapping Of Problem-Based Learning In Primary Science Education, Lintang Auliya Kurdiati

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

The field of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in primary science education has expanded rapidly over the past decade, yet it remains fragmented and lacks full structural and intellectual coherence. Scholarly collaboration patterns, thematic evolution, and the interconnections among research topics are still insufficiently understood. This study employs a Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) approach, integrating a PRISMA-guided systematic literature review with bibliometric network analysis, to examine 146 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2015 and 2025 and indexed in Scopus. VOSviewer and Biblioshiny were used to map co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence, citation linkages, and thematic clusters. The findings reveal increasing structural centralization …

Reading Literacy Research Trends In Science Learning (2015–2025), Siwi Handayani, Siswanto Siswanto, Rina Rahayu

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

This study aims to analyze research trends in reading literacy within science learning from 2015 to 2025 through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework. The initial screening of 150 articles from the WoS Core Collection and SINTA databases yielded 29 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The analysis focused on publication dynamics, contributing countries, participant characteristics, research variables, and the science subjects investigated. The findings indicate that research on reading literacy in science learning remains limited and shows fluctuating development. Most publications originate from national journals indexed by SINTA, …

Cognitive Conflict In Iconic Visual Representations: Comparing Conventional And Ai Approaches, Endrayana Putut Laksminto Emanuel, Herfa Maulina Dewi Soewardini, Radhitya Duta Pradana, Sikky El Walida

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

Background of study: The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education has transformed mathematical problem-solving practices, yet it introduces potential discrepancies in students’ visual understanding, particularly in geometric contexts, leading to commognitive conflicts in visual mediators. Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to analyze and compare the sources of commognitive conflict in iconic visual representations when students solve flat shape problems using conventional methods versus AI-assisted approaches. Methods: A qualitative design was employed involving 20 first-year mathematics education students divided into two groups (AI-assisted and conventional). Data were collected through students’ written work and semi-structured interviews …

Breaking Barriers: Advancement Toward Practical Nursing Licensure For Certified Medication Assistants In Long-Term Care--A Descriptive Study, Aleshia L. Maxwell Apr 2026

Breaking Barriers: Advancement Toward Practical Nursing Licensure For Certified Medication Assistants In Long-Term Care--A Descriptive Study, Aleshia L. Maxwell

ATU Theses and Dissertations 2021 - Present

The persistent nursing shortage across the United States, particularly in Long-Term Care (LTC) settings, has complicated the healthcare system’s ability to meet the needs of an aging population. While existing research often examines progression from Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN), limited research explores factors influencing progression from entry-level LTC healthcare workers to Practical Nursing (PN) licensure. This quantitative descriptive study examined the barriers and supporting factors influencing advancement toward PN licensure for Medication Assistants-Certified (MA-Cs) in Arkansas LTC facilities. A convenience sample of N=100 participated in the study. Results indicated that financial and structural barriers often …

Empirical Benchmarks For Interpreting Effect Sizes In Violent Crime Interventions, Kohta James Matsukawa Hansen Apr 2026

Empirical Benchmarks For Interpreting Effect Sizes In Violent Crime Interventions, Kohta James Matsukawa Hansen

Theses and Dissertations

Criminal justice researchers apply Cohen’s (1988) benchmarks to classify effect sizes as small, medium, or large, despite these standards never being meant for broad, decontextualized use (Cohen, 1988; Gies et al., 2024; Goulet-Pelletier & Cousineau, 2018; Lakens, 2013; Milner et al., 2023). Repeatedly doing so may weaken statistical validity, distort findings, and impede effective policymaking. This study introduces the first effect size benchmarks specifically designed for violent crime interventions.

Using a quasi-meta-analysis framework, 1,605 effect sizes from 104 violent crime intervention studies from the CrimeSolutions clearinghouse were converted to Cohen’s d. Three new discrete benchmarking methods were created using a …
