The Evaluation And Use Of The Project Method Of Teaching In The Primary Grades, Veronica C. Sullivan
Bachelors’ Theses
Education is life in that it deals with life's situations. The great educator, John Dewey, says, "Learn to do by doing. Self education through activity is exactly what is meant by the best conception of the project method."
Human Geography In The Upper Grades Of The Elementary School, Helen T. Kelly
Human Geography In The Upper Grades Of The Elementary School, Helen T. Kelly
Bachelors’ Theses
Since school geography, at lea.st in the mind or the teacher and the curriculum maker, must be a portion of the science of geography as defined by the authorities in the field, it is important that those who teach geography as well as those who plan courses of study should know the varying emphasis which different geographers have placed in interpreting and organizing this science.
Aims And Methods Of Teaching History In The Junior High School, Marguerite Mcnicholas
Aims And Methods Of Teaching History In The Junior High School, Marguerite Mcnicholas
Bachelors’ Theses
Our social inheritance from the past coupled with our visionary hopes for the future, tend to alter, in each few generations, the objectives of education. As Americans, we were early exponents of the present world ideal of political democracy. The devotion of democracy to education is evident. A democratic society must have a type of education which gives individuals a personal interest in social relationships and control, and the habits of mind which secure social changes without producing disorder. "It therefore becomes necessary for each generation to take stock of its ideals and of the activities of its people, to …
The Teaching Of History In The Grades, Alice Brierton
The Teaching Of History In The Grades, Alice Brierton
Bachelors’ Theses
In considering the teaching of history in the grades, one must necessarily begin with a clear-cut statement of what he means by history.
The time has long since passed when students consider history a record of war and strife and reconciliation; when they regard it as a summary of meaningless dates doled out to them to be memorized. They realize that History is not one of these, but when they are asked to define it, they cannot answer so easily.
From a group of forty seventh and eighth grade children whom I asked to give their own definition of History, …

Pre Vocational Education With Special Reference To Pre Vocational Education For Girls, Ruth Hurlbut
Pre Vocational Education With Special Reference To Pre Vocational Education For Girls, Ruth Hurlbut
Bachelors’ Theses
The necessity for providing vocational information and experience for children who are likely to leave school before completing the high-school course and thus face at a very early age the demands of industrial and commercial life, is coming to be generally recognized. It has been evident for many years the the public school has been giving more effective service to the boy and girl who continue through college and into the professions than it does to the one who must step directly into the job without further training - and this in the face of the fact the the latter …
The Education Of The Accelerated Child, Robert Marber Francis Derse
The Education Of The Accelerated Child, Robert Marber Francis Derse
Bachelors’ Theses
Nature has bestowed upon some of its children a gift so mysterious in its operations, so wonderful in its products and so tremendous in its influence that it baffles the most cultured and powerful minds in the attempt to analyze its workings. Even the possessor is unable to trace either -its origin or its mode of action. It is the common parent of invention and science of music and poetry and its chief distinction lies in the ability to penetrate farther into the field of truth than ordinary minds can do. To live in worlds that are unknown except to …
