The study reveals that cybersecurity awareness has diffused across various disciplines, including non-computer science disciplines such as business, accounting, and social …

Academic Citizenship As Civic Professionalism, Elizabeth A. Jach Feb 2024

Academic Citizenship As Civic Professionalism, Elizabeth A. Jach

New York Journal of Student Affairs

In this essay, I argue that academic citizenship needs to be focused on civic professionalism. Too often, individualism renders undue costs to the broader academic community. Looking to research in higher education on civic professionalism, I argue that its tenets, which focus on contributing to the community, can allow those of us in academia to realize for ourselves what we want for our students and future generations. I employ the lens of an ecological framework to illustrate the possibilities and priorities of viewing and implementing academic citizenship as civic professionalism.

An Examination Of Psychological Flexibility As A Mediator Between Mental Health Concerns And Satisfaction With Life Among Autistic Adults, Ty B. Aller, Heather H. Kelley, Tyson S. Barrett, Benjamin Covington, Michael E. Levin, Maryellen Brunson Mcclain Feb 2024

An Examination Of Psychological Flexibility As A Mediator Between Mental Health Concerns And Satisfaction With Life Among Autistic Adults, Ty B. Aller, Heather H. Kelley, Tyson S. Barrett, Benjamin Covington, Michael E. Levin, Maryellen Brunson Mcclain

Psychology Faculty Publications

Background: Experiencing mental health concerns (e.g., depression, anxiety, stress) can have negative effects on satisfaction with life (SWL) for autistic adults. Current mental health supports that may promote SWL do not effectively meet the needs of autistic adults, often due to deficits-based approaches. Methods: To begin addressing the gap in research surrounding mental health supports among autistic adults, we designed a preregistered longitudinal study that used structural equation modeling to assess 289 autistic adults from the Simons Powering Autism Research (SPARK) program to determine if progress toward ones values, a strengths-based component of psychological flexibility, is a potential …

Sociocultural Factors That Influence Latinas’ Stem Trajectory, Kristen Hallas, Angela M. Chapman Feb 2024

Sociocultural Factors That Influence Latinas’ Stem Trajectory, Kristen Hallas, Angela M. Chapman

Critical Proceedings of the STEM ED Conference (2023)

Females and people of color continue to be excluded from the STEM workforce, and those with identities intersecting those factors, like Latinas, experience exclusion at a greater scale. Though Western-focused scholars try to describe the experiences of historically excluded groups, their efforts have not significantly increased the inclusion in certain disciplines, especially for those with intersecting identities. This study explores what motivates Latinas to pursue a STEM degree at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and analyzes these experiences with a LatCrit lens.
