Background: This study aimed to examine the dose-response relationship between training load and aspects of physical fitness in English Premier League (EPL) U23 soccer players. Materials and Methods: Seven male EPL U23 outfield soccer players (age 20.1±1.1 years) participated in this study and performed the Bronco test on five occasions within one season. Individualised running thresholds were employed using maximal aerobic speed (MAS), anaerobic speed reserve (ASR) and maximal sprint speed (MSS) values utilising a GPS system. Results: No significant differences in the Bronco performance between the tests (p > 0.05, ES = 0.101) were observed. Distance covered above 30% …

The Titration Olympics, Joseph T Golab, Hoitung (Terry) Leung
Professional Learning Day
The “Titration Olympics” is the capstone experiment at the end of the Spring semester’s Advanced Chemistry Acid-Base-Buffer unit. In this lab exercise, students compete to determine the concentration of an unknown acid solution using a sodium hydroxide solution they prepare and standardize using KHP. The winner is determined using a rubric that accounts for (a) overall lab time, (b) preparation and general lab technique, (c) data table, (d) quality of the phenolphthalein endpoints, (e) accuracy of the unknown acid’s molarity, (f) use of significant figures, and (g) clean up skills. Students enjoy the competitive spirit of the experiment and realize …

Educational Choice: The Legacy Of Meyer V. Nebraska And Pierce V. Society Of Sisters: Introduction, Maimon Schwarzschild
Educational Choice: The Legacy Of Meyer V. Nebraska And Pierce V. Society Of Sisters: Introduction, Maimon Schwarzschild
The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues
One hundred years ago, in 1925, in a lawsuit brought by parochial and private schools, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously struck down an Oregon state law requiring children to attend only public schools. Two years earlier, in 1923, the Court struck down a state law prohibiting the teaching of foreign languages to young children. Midway between the hundredth anniversaries of these two decisions—in March 2024—the Classical Liberal Institute at New York University School of Law sponsored a symposium in conjunction with this Journal on “Educational Choice: The Legacy of Meyer v. Nebraska and Pierce v. Society of Sisters”.

What Counselors Say Matters For Supporting High School Newcomer Multilingual Learners As They Work Toward Graduation, Sonia Lucrecia Molina Openshaw
What Counselors Say Matters For Supporting High School Newcomer Multilingual Learners As They Work Toward Graduation, Sonia Lucrecia Molina Openshaw
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores how high school (HS) counselors describe their work with newcomer multilingual learners (MLs). Using the lens of Yosso’s (2005) Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) framework to identify asset perspectives in their work with these students. They suggest specific supports and barriers impacting these students' academic and social success in school. Findings reveal that counselors often focus on addressing the immediate needs of HS newcomer MLs, such as language acquisition and academic readiness, but less frequently recognize the cultural, linguistic, and social assets students bring to their educational journey. Counselors highlight the importance of systemic supports, including onboarding processes, …

A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of The Lived Experiences Of Special Educators Working In A Juvenile Detention Center, Karli M. Piskurich
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of special educators working in a juvenile detention facility, and their perceptions of the relation of juveniles with disabilities to recidivism. Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences guided this study, as it allows educators to provide differentiated and individualized instruction to incarcerated youth with disabilities. A secondary theory used was Skinner’s behaviorist theory, as educators of students with disabilities implement various behavioral strategies pertaining to the students’ needs. With respect to the purpose and theories, the central research question that guided this study was, “What are educators’ experiences …
