Exploring Galway Bay And Connemara: Balancing Tourism Growth With Nature’S Protection, Rongtian Feng, Jeanne Sumrall Mar 2025

Exploring Galway Bay And Connemara: Balancing Tourism Growth With Nature’S Protection, Rongtian Feng, Jeanne Sumrall

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

This poster observes how Galway Bay and Connemara manage large tourist numbers while maintaining nature conserved, according to data from Connemara National Park, Galway County Council, two research papers, and a 2017 visitor plan. We researched the ways that tourists affect the land, which rules help, and green ideas to try, learning that too many tourists—over 200,000 to Connemara Park in 2019—hurt the land, Galway Bay lost animals because of trash, and while cleaner water helps, caring about money more hurts nature more. A map, timeline, and graph show the problem. We found out tourism is a source of income …

Wrongful Convictions In The United States, Connor J. Schoenberger

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Wrongful convictions occur too frequently in the united states. A wrongful conviction occurs when a person is found guilty and sentenced for a crime that he or she did not commit. Wrongful convictions occur for a number of reasons including false confessions and prosecutorial misconduct, to name only two. This study considers how wrongful convictions affect society and consequences for those who are wrongfully convicted and then later exonerated. One cannot put a price tag on the harm done as a result of wrongful convictions.

Scalable Mxene-Based Textile Supercapacitors, Abaigeal Aydt

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

The demand for flexible and wearable energy storage devices for portable applications has led to the exploration of textile-based supercapacitors (TSCs). TSCs will allow for the creation of a new class of energy harvesting and storing technology directly into our clothing and will require using non-toxic and/or biocompatible materials. This will result in a greener and more sustainable path to address the challenges at the nexus of energy, mobility, and sustainability. To fabricate a TSC, a yarn made of fibers, such as wool or cotton, is coated with MXene flakes; MXenes are composed of transition metal carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides …

Undergraduate Theses

The goal of this thesis is to improve the student athlete experience at Bellarmine University through direct feedback from our current student athletes. By defining what parts of the student athlete experience they value most, Bellarmine can reflect on the support currently provided in these areas. Additionally, if it is concluded through the response that high valued areas are not being satisfied, Bellarmine can work to improve the support in these areas. Or, if there is abundant support in a low-valued area, Bellarmine could think to shift resources into a more needed concentration. Through the design sample, data was accumulated …

Adverse Childhood Experiences And High School Dropout: The Roles Of Student Disengagement And Social Support, Rachel D. Pounders Mar 2025

Adverse Childhood Experiences And High School Dropout: The Roles Of Student Disengagement And Social Support, Rachel D. Pounders

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

More than two million students a year leave high school without a completion credential (NCES, 2024). Students who drop out are at-risk for detrimental long-term outcomes physically, mentally and economically (Rumberger, 2020). Students with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are significantly more likely to have poor educational outcomes, including school dropout (Metzler et al., 2017; Pan et al., 2019). However, there is limited insight into what affects the pathway between ACEs and poor educational outcomes for students (Dupéré et al., 2019; Morrow & Villodas, 2018). Informed by prominent dropout theories with ecological foundations and the theory of stress and coping, this …

Journal of Computer Science Integration

In 2016, a national coalition of stakeholders released the K-12 computer science (CS) framework. In the time since, there has been an increased push at the local, state, and national level to integrate CS knowledge and skills into K-12 education. Despite this push, significant equity issues exist within the field. While growing research has been done on CS equity issues at the high school level, we know these equity gaps often begin to emerge in elementary school where less is known. Therefore, we conducted a systematic literature review to better understand and explore the elementary CS equity research landscape from …

About 15 million adults struggle with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). However, SAD typically starts affecting kids around the age of 13, when they’re in their late middle school years. We’ve researched many things, such as what SAD can look like in general and in the school setting and what researchers and educators have said. With all that in mind, we have come up with some adjustments to classrooms today that we believe would benefit children with Social Anxiety Disorders.
