This phenomenological study explores how males of color in South Los Angeles utilize Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) to navigate educational pathways from high school through community college and university. Grounded in Yosso’s (2005) CCW framework—which includes aspirational, linguistic, familial, social, navigational, and resistance capital—this study centers the voices of ten first-generation African American and Latino/Latinx males from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Using a mixed methods design, the research combined participant intake surveys, structured questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews to capture how these students persist in the face of systemic barriers. Grounded in Gloria Anzaldúa’s theoretical concepts of Conocimiento and Nepantla, the study focused on how intersectional identities influence the governance leadership practices of women of color trustees. ABSTRACT

This qualitative study explores the impact of looping on elementary educators, focusing on how teaching the same group of students for multiple years influences instructional practices, professional growth, and classroom dynamics. Using one-on-one interviews with seven experienced educators, this research identifies three overarching themes: (a) teachers’ feelings of autonomy, (b) the relationships established with students and families, and (c) familiarity with curriculum and expectations. Findings suggest that looping makes teachers more effective by fostering deeper relationships, increasing confidence in instructional strategies, and improving job satisfaction. This study explored the enrollment departure effects of First-Generation College Students (FGCS) at the community college level. Community colleges serve a key role in providing higher education access to nontraditional students, including FGCS. The study employed a three-pronged quantitative research approach to understand the enrollment departure phenomenon better. The study was guided by the Student/Institution Engagement Model to elucidate the impacts of precollege, institutional, and environmental factors on student persistence. Two binary logistic regressions and chi-square tests for independence were conducted on archival college data.

Since the 2018 admissions cycle, genetic counseling graduate programs in North America have utilized the Genetic Counseling Admissions Match (GCAM), a Match algorithm to place applicants. While a study prior to implementation found that most students were uninterested in a Match due to concerns of control, there has been no investigation into matched applicants’ experiences since its inception. The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify if a significant relationship existed between teaching modality and student performance outcomes while also considering the factor of course subject being taught during the 2021-2023 academic years. Three courses were included in the research: Math 1630 Finite Mathematics, English 1010 Composition I, and Biology 1110 General Biology. Each of the three courses are introductory level courses in the math, English, and science subject. The study also included statistical analysis on gender as related to student performance outcomes.

In this study, we explore student experiences in coding and learning programming with scaffolded and unscaffolded generative AI interfaces. Specifically, we supported higher education students in using ChatGPT, an open ended interface for interacting with generative AI; and Giuseppe, a specialized interface with an OpenAI backend service that offers personalized supports specifically for helping students overcome early-stage challenges in learning to code, and working on education technology prototyping projects. This dissertation examines the experience of former foster youth as they enter college and attempt to earn a college degree. The Tuition Waiver Program is designed to cover the cost of college beyond any financial aid former foster students receive from the university they are attending. Over 3,000 former foster college students across Texas use the Tuition Waiver Program. However, less than 3% of former foster college students in Texas complete their college degrees (Watt & Faulkner, 2020).
