A historical account of creative writing in higher education and its relationship to progressive education and creative education is offered. The conceptual framework involves the development of the creative person through the primary pedagogical method within creative writing: the workshop. Instructors in the classroom often describe their experiences teaching as being a performance, which often combines authenticity with boundaries to keep certain aspects of the instructor’s life out of the classroom. For queer instructors, their performance may be especially complicated; since queer identity is less visible than other types of identities, instructors must also weigh whether or not to come out to their students. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2022), during the 2017–2018 academic year, only 7% of all teachers identified as Black or African American, with approximately 76% of that group being women. This qualitative study investigates the lived experiences of African American women educators who have transitioned into leadership roles within P–12 educational settings across the Great Plains Region of the United States. The research explores how their experiences intersect with issues of racial and gender equity, particularly within the broader discourse of social justice in education and educational leadership.

The goal of this creative project is to use art to highlight the diversity of our insect neighbors and encourage others to explore their local environments. In order to accomplish this, I created a poster-sized illustration of five insects I’ve encountered on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s City Campus. All insects are posted within the silhouette of Memorial Stadium, each with an ecological and personal significance. The contrast of a well-known building with less popular insects invokes the audience to reconsider how much attention they pay to the wilderness around them.

While many ancient sources mention pirates, it is usually just in passing. However, even those few small references allude to a far more important role in history. Through the use of the ancient written sources, inscriptions, and archeological evidence, it becomes apparent that the pirates were an integral part of local economies and politics. The 2024–2025 HMS Formula SAE senior design team successfully reduced axle system weight, cost, and improved manufacturability using a bonded tripod joint and ±45° intermediate modulus carbon fiber tube. The final design was validated on HMS 25, with no failures under rigorous testing.

The purpose of this dissertation study was to examine how perceptions of school climate and social acceptance influence the relationship between bullying victimization and anxious and depressive symptoms for youth with and without disabilities. Students with disabilities are at increased risk for involvement in the bullying dynamic, both by bullying others and by experiencing victimization. Victims of bullying are more likely to experience peer rejection and greater internalizing problems, including higher levels of anxious and depressive symptoms. This paper draws from a critical ethnographic case study of the Roses in Concrete Community School (RiC) in East Oakland, California to explore their approach to repurposing a traditional school into a community responsive learning institution by operationalizing a critical humanist vision of education in a marginalized, urban community. In this collaborative, embedded mixed-method study I explored the impact of teacher participation in a community of practice focused on improving attitudes toward and implementation of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. Using the Dispositions for Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Scale as a tool to induce critical reflection and dialogue; teachers collaboratively examined their beliefs, practices and perceptions regarding CRP. Belonging is a fundamental human need with significant developmental implications, influencing identity, self-concept, mental health, emotional-wellbeing, and behavior. While school belonging has been widely studied, research on belonging in early childhood care and education (ECCE) settings, particularly from young children’s perspectives, is limited. This multi-case study investigated young children’s perspectives in ECCE settings to determine how they explained the term belonging and to identify key factors contributing to their sense of belonging through photography, tours, discussions, and drawings. To build trusting relationships with teachers, administrators must first accurately assess the current level of trust present within these relationships. However, research has yet to examine how accurately school administrators can judge how teachers perceive the level of trust between the two. The purpose of this study was to explore whether administrators accurately judge teachers’ perceived ratings of the five facets of trust. To assess the accuracy of administrator’s judgments of their teachers’ perceptions of trust, administrators predicted how teachers would rate perceived benevolence, competence, honesty, openness, and reliability. This qualitative study examined how elementary school leaders develop collective efficacy through leadership practices. Through semi-structured interviews with 16 elementary school leaders, the researcher investigated leadership practices that effectively build and sustain collective efficacy while identifying key challenges and supports. Drawing on Bandura's collective efficacy theory, the study employed a phenomenological approach to understanding leaders' lived experiences in developing collective belief systems within their schools.

Key findings indicate that successful collective efficacy development requires intentional leadership practices aligned with school improvement's structural and cultural elements. This study explores the mental health challenges faced by Division II collegiate football players, their coping mechanisms, and the adequacy of institutional resources. Through qualitative interviews with student-athletes, the research examines their experiences, stress levels, and perceptions of support systems. Findings indicate that anxiety, stress, and performance pressure are prevalent among players, with 58.3% reporting anxiety symptoms and 50% experiencing football-related stress. Despite 91.7% of respondents being aware of campus mental health services, comfort levels in discussing mental health remain moderate, and coaching support is perceived as only somewhat effective.
