Shaping A Resilient Future: Perspectives Of Sign Language Interpreters And Deaf Community In Africa, Leonida Tausi Kaula, Washington Opiyo Sati Mr.

The study sought to explore the state of deaf and interpreter communities of the countries in the African region. It adopted a mixed-method approach consisting of comprehensive document reviews, online collection of data using a questionnaire and key informant discussions at the Conference. The survey approach also deployed both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The Google form was deployed as a platform for data collection and analysis. The findings reveal that despite majority of the countries having ratified the UNCPRD, and several others having existing national policies supporting accessibility for the deaf populations, domestication and implementation still remains a challenge. …

Teachers frequently reach for leveled readers to help facilitate their guided reading groups; however, there can be limits in using these leveled readers. One such limit relates to enjoyment and engagement. An answer to this is using TOON books during guided reading time. The following case study explores how social-emotional learning (SEL) teaching strategies enhance seventh-grade students’ engagement with classic literature during English Language Arts (ELA) class. Using S.E. Hinton’s classic novella The Outsiders as a foundation for this research, this study examines whether SEL-based lesson plans help adolescents make deeper connections between literature and their own lives. Two groups of students were compared in the study: one group received traditional, comprehension-based instruction, while the other participated in SEL-based assessments, encouraging perspective-taking and personal reflection. Caregivers of care-recipients with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) do not have sufficient resources to assist their care-recipients with the adult developmental stage of intimacy versus isolation. This capstone considers the occupational and developmental impacts that growing individuals with IDD face, namely the developmental stages including healthy relationships, sexual safety, and intimacy. The literature review covers the scientific, statistical, and historical importance of this developmental milestone. There is a gap in reading achievement for children from low socioeconomic status families despite efforts to the contrary. A major factor contributing to achievement in reading is parental involvement. My students have roleplayed as golden age hip hop artists, presidential campaign teams, and citizens debating for/against Maya Lin’s proposed Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1980.
