Sustainability Curriculum In The Science And Business Schools, Lauren Sato May 2017

Sustainability Curriculum In The Science And Business Schools, Lauren Sato

Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters

In 2013, the first Chapman University Environmental Audit showed that less than 25% of the student population surveyed did not learn about sustainable concepts in any of their courses. Additionally, Chapman did not implement a Sustainability Policy until the fall of 2014, further illustrating the lack of exposure students had to sustainability. This study uses data from the 2013 and 2017 Environmental Audits and the Chapman online syllabi database to determine if student and faculty exposure to sustainable practices has increased since 2013. Historically, concern for the natural environment and corporate goals did not align. Today, however, the integration of …

“The Cracked Pots Of Humanity”: Post-World War Ii American Literary Perspectives On Psychiatric Treatment/Containment Of Mental Disorders, Jennifer Chichester May 2017

“The Cracked Pots Of Humanity”: Post-World War Ii American Literary Perspectives On Psychiatric Treatment/Containment Of Mental Disorders, Jennifer Chichester

Masters Theses

This thesis examines the ways in which characters in Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Bird’s Nest, Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces grapple with the concept of “madness” on individual and societal levels. Each of these Post-World War II novels question whether “madness” is a social construct. Is the person mad, or is society? These three novels, written in an era when inpatient psychiatric care was losing its prominence as a method for treating those deemed insane, reflect the growing trend of deinstitutionalization in the 1950s …

The qualitative phenomenological research design captures the lived experiences …

Getting Comfortable With Failure And Vulnerability To Facilitate Learning And Innovation In The Game Of School, Szymon Machajewski

College of Computing Scholarly Publications

Schools should teach students how to fail fast and safely in order to learn and to allow innovation through vulnerability. The lessons that the gaming culture has for learning will define future strategies of teaching and learning. Games are sometimes called well-designed work. As a result, people flock to them. The secret of engagement in games can be adopted in academia as soon as courses become well-designed games.
