The Relationship Between School Connectedness And Well-Being Among Racial Minority English Language Learners: Implications For School Counselors, Laura Craven, Jonathan Ohrt, Keeland Lodato

Students who feel connected to their school experience better academic performance, social competence, and mental health. English Language Learners (ELL) face unique challenges to school connectedness compared to their English-speaking peers. In this study, we explored the relationship between school connectedness and well-being for 205 racial minority ELL students. ELL students’ perceived school belonging was a significant predictor of well-being. We discuss implications for school counselors, including specific strategies for increasing ELL students’ school connectedness.

In US schools, multilingual learners (MLs) are expected to meet the same rigorous disciplinary standards as their English-speaking peers while also developing proficiency in English. This article demonstrates how sustained reading, as part of the Teaching and Learning Cycle, can support MLs' access to disciplinary literacy through the explicit attention to language features. Grounded on the Language-based Approach to Content Instruction (LACI), the article presents a classroom vignette from a 5th-grade social studies lesson in which MLs dissected a mentor text. Background. Living kidney donor transplantation provides recipients with kidney failure with an excellent graft function and survival. Donation of a kidney entails a thorough medical and psychosocial evaluation. Obesity is an increasingly prevalent medical condition and a known risk factor for the development of chronic kidney disease post-donation. Accepting overweight and obese individuals as living kidney donors remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to review the impact of obesity on the determination of candidates for living kidney donation at a single transplant center.

Background. Hand knob strokes present with unilateral motor weakness of the hand, distal arm, or a particular group of fingers with or without paresthesia. This condition can easily be misdiagnosed as a peripheral mononeuropathy without a high level of suspicion and a thorough history and physical exam. We present a case of hand knob stroke that mimicked an ulnar mononeuropathy.

This performance autoethnography inhabits the pedagogical encounter between a North African Muslim woman in hijab teaching college-level Arabic and an African American Muslim student whose Islam traveled a different racial and geographic history. Team teaching in online higher education courses provides an innovative approach to meeting the needs of students and enhancing the teaching experiences of instructors. In this study, two instructors collaborated to team teach a course in an online doctoral program; this article shares their experiences. A multi-method qualitative approach was utilized to explore the benefits and challenges of team teaching. Background: Explosive power and rapid reaction time are crucial in fencing. Ballistic resistance training (BRT) may improve these qualities but is rarely applied in fencing. Materials and methods: To assess the effects of an eight-week BRT program on upper-limb power and reaction time in youth Egyptian épée fencers, nineteen male fencers (aged 16.6 ± 1.5) were randomly divided into a BRT group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 9). Although Canada is often regarded as a leader in inclusive education, reports note that many students’ needs remain unmet and inclusion is typically implemented by placing students in mainstream classrooms with individualized accommodations. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of seven early career K–6 public general education teachers in Ontario (1–4 years of practice) as they engaged in inclusive education and prepared to teach students with special needs. Participants reported that teacher preparation coursework presented inclusive models only superficially, professional development was fragmented and insufficient prompting self-directed learning and structural constraints in schools limited individualized support. This paper introduces the Open Wiki of Electrochemical Methods (OWEM), an open-access, community-driven platform designed to complement these resources. OWEM organizes content into equations, definitions, methods, tutorials, and supplementary articles, with a heavy emphasis on experimental relevance. A case study on cyclic voltammetry demonstrates how OWEM consolidates foundational theory, lesser-known results, and practical guidance within a continuously maintainable framework to benefit the broader electrochemistry community.

The field of Graduate Medical Education (GME) increasingly employs PhD-trained professionals in roles including simulation directors, education researchers, program coordinators, and assessment specialists. These professionals bring valuable expertise in educational theory, research methodology, and interdisciplinary perspectives that complement physician leadership. However, role ambiguity, hierarchical positioning, and underutilization of scholarly expertise remain common challenges.
