'What The World Would Be': How Creating A Shared World Through Collaborative Roleplaying Helps Us To Deal With Real-World Challenges, Pablo Muslera Sep 2025

'What The World Would Be': How Creating A Shared World Through Collaborative Roleplaying Helps Us To Deal With Real-World Challenges, Pablo Muslera

Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai

This article is in two parts: a creative prose artefact, and a critical exegesis situating the artefact in a wider context. It illustrates how roleplaying games explore community and identity, through a creative / critical lens. A prose dramatisation of a cooperative TTRPG (table top roleplaying game) session, played online over Discord and online gaming platform Roll20, juxtaposes the collaboratively imagined world, and the reality from which it is an escape. Themes of gender identity, isolation, precarious work and fluctuating health are explored within the timeframe of the Covid outbreak in Adelaide mid-2020, with the roleplaying session serving as a …

A Cooperative Virtual Exchange Within The Economics Curriculum: A Pilot Study On Embedding Elements Of Global Competence Within An Economics Course, Amy Ehinomen Eremionkhale, Jana Sadeh, Yidi Sun

Business Analytics Faculty Publications

The increasing interconnectivity of the global economy has fuelled higher education (HE) efforts to promote international exchange projects; however, these are not an option for many students. Virtual Exchange (VE) projects have gained traction over the last decade and are now well-established in higher education as a tool to build intercultural communication and global competence (Dooly, 2022; Stevens Initiative, 2023). Building on this established practice, our study contributes to the literature by augmenting a VE with a cooperative group-based learning exercise embedded within an economics module (course), an intersection that remains underexplored in both theory and implementation, and one which …

Caregiver Perspectives About Implementing Educational Goals For Children Of Incarcerated Parents In A Head Start Program, Alissa Jane Stark

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The problem addressed in this study is that caregivers of children with incarcerated parents inconsistently implement the mandated educational goals developed through the Head Start program. Grounded in Bowen’s family systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore caregiver’s perspectives on implementing Head Start Educational goals for children of incarcerated parents and their views on the resources or training needed to support these goals. For this case study, 12 former caregivers from a Head Start program in a women’s correctional facility in Oregon were interviewed. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and analyzed thematically with the …

Constructing Identities Through Literacy: Channeling The Power Of Interactive Read-Alouds In The Elementary Classroom, Katie Lewis

Michigan Reading Journal

This article explores the often-overlooked potential of interactive read-alouds as a conduit for identity exploration in the elementary classroom. While read-alouds are commonly used to support comprehension and vocabulary acquisition, they can also serve as powerful tools for helping students construct and explore their identities—when implemented with intentionality. Drawing on practical classroom strategies—including rehearsing academic conversations, intentionally introducing unfamiliar vocabulary, and creating a safe, non-judgmental space—this article illustrates how read-alouds can foster both language growth and self-understanding. Designed for elementary educators, the piece encourages teachers to view read-alouds not just as literacy instruction, but as opportunities to empower young learners …

By presenting a balanced perspective, the article invites educators to critically examine how …

From Belief To Practice: Building A Culture Of Disciplinary Literacy, Bradley Stabler, Ruth Poulos Sep 2025

From Belief To Practice: Building A Culture Of Disciplinary Literacy, Bradley Stabler, Ruth Poulos

Michigan Reading Journal

This article tells the story of how Pontiac High School began building a stronger focus on reading, writing, and thinking in every subject. The work started with a few shared questions, not a detailed plan. A small group of teachers and coaches came together to figure out how to help students think more deeply and express their ideas more clearly. Over time, they led staff-wide efforts that included planning lessons together, visiting each other’s classrooms, and trying out new teaching moves. Feedback from students and staff helped guide the work. Along the way, teachers began to shift their instruction, and …

Do Our “Window And Mirror” Books Leave Shards Of Broken Glass?, Brianne R. Pitts, Jill Hermann-Wilmarth Sep 2025

Do Our “Window And Mirror” Books Leave Shards Of Broken Glass?, Brianne R. Pitts, Jill Hermann-Wilmarth

Michigan Reading Journal

In this article the authors apply Bishop’s (1990) windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors as an analytical framework that, along with critical literacy practices, can be used to enhance the social studies and literacy instruction. The stories we share in elementary classrooms teach students about their future possibilities. As teacher educators, we wondered about our students and our complacency with powerful ideas from foundational scholars in literacy and education. Using Bishop’s (1990) metaphor as an analytic tool, students’ critical disciplinary literacy projects are assessed for future instructional goals, leaving readers with eight practical tools for classroom instruction and critical assessment …

Sustainability In Dentistry.. Rosy Dreams Or Attainable Reality?, Rim Wally Sep 2025

Sustainability In Dentistry.. Rosy Dreams Or Attainable Reality?, Rim Wally

COP30

The dental sector is a significant carbon emitter globally, with each clinic emitting the same emissions as multiple cars do over a year, and each visit contributing tangible environmental impacts. The biggest emitters are patient and staff travel, clinic utilities, and supply chain activities like single-use plastics. Despite this extensive contribution, there is still low dental awareness. That is why this policy briefing includes a framework for integrating oral health with environmental sustainability aims, foregrounding multi-stakeholder engagement and using the UK as a case study. Climate literacy and dental education reform are the most significant and recommended basis for starting …

Educate To Empower : Reforming Education For Youth-Led Climate Readiness, Souvana Samy Ismael Abdelmoumen Mohamed Sep 2025

Educate To Empower : Reforming Education For Youth-Led Climate Readiness, Souvana Samy Ismael Abdelmoumen Mohamed

COP30

This policy paper explores the pressing need to equip young people in vulnerable countries with the knowledge and skills to face the climate crisis. Today’s youth, the largest generation in history, are growing up on the frontlines of climate change, often in places least prepared to respond. Yet in many national education systems, climate literacy is still absent or underdeveloped, leaving students without the tools to understand the challenges shaping their future. The paper identifies three main barriers: climate topics missing from school curricula, limited opportunities for youth to engage in decision-making, and chronic underfunding of climate education. Drawing on …

Youth At The Frontlines: Advancing Capacity Building And Climate Empowerment Through Ace Under The Unfccc, Shahad Abdulrahim Almatrafi

COP30

The role of youth has become more important as changemakers and impact drivers, as we face a global climate crisis. However, their ability to influence still remains constrained by the limited access and lack of formal climate education, and underdeveloped institutional mechanisms across the Global South. This paper focuses on strengthening capacity building and the ACE by institutionalizing youth engagement within the UNFCCC at the national and global levels to develop their capacities. In 2021, the Glasgow Programme of Action revitalized the frameworks for climate empowerment; however, progress remains insufficient. Genuine transformation necessitates the integration of youth empowerment into education, …

The Relationship Between Capacity Building And Action Climate Empowerment, Omar Mahmoud Mohamed Sep 2025

The Relationship Between Capacity Building And Action Climate Empowerment, Omar Mahmoud Mohamed

COP30

Despite robust international recognition of the importance of Capacity building and Action climate empowerment, they are frequently stuck in translating into sustained, tangible climate action at national and local levels. In this sense, the pervasive implementation gap significantly undermines these efforts, specifically in developing countries. That is why this paper explores the critical barriers, including systemic fragmentation of governance and chronic underfunding of climate actions. Thus, this paper aims to strengthen and integrate Capacity Building and Action Climate Empowerment for climate solutions, as it is claimed that the most critical issue within this domain is the persistent disconnect between policy …

Strengthening Climate Empowerment And Equity Through Youth-Led Capacity Building In Africa, Henok Demelash Sep 2025

Strengthening Climate Empowerment And Equity Through Youth-Led Capacity Building In Africa, Henok Demelash

COP30

Africa’s youth over, 60% of the population, remain an untapped force in climate policymaking despite being among the most affected by climate change. This exclusion persists even though Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, through Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), mandates education, training, public awareness, and capacity building as essential drivers of climate action. Most African countries have yet to fully implement ACE, leaving youth inclusion fragmented and under-resourced. This policy brief examines the gaps in mainstreaming youth action into national climate efforts and the UNFCCC process based on Ethiopia's U-Report, the African Union youth climate actions, and the IGAD …

The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams Sep 2025

The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams

Taylor Theatre Playbills

The playbill for Taylor University's performance of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.

Performed September 25-28, 2025 in the Mitchell Theatre at Taylor University.

At its heart, The Glass Menagerie is a story about the grace that vulnerability makes possible. The Wingfield family—Tom, Amanda, and Laura—are fragile, flawed, and fiercely human. Their lives are marked by disappointment and desire, yet Williams invites us to approach them with tenderness. Laura’s glass animals, so delicate and beautiful, are not just a metaphor for her own inner world but for the human spirit itself—easily broken, but capable of reflecting light in ways that …

Describing The Retention Experiences Of Special Education Teachers In Rural California: A Phenomenological Study, Adriel Gama Reynoso

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the retention experiences of special education teachers who taught in rural elementary school districts in California. Retention was generally defined as a teacher who was influenced to stay with their district for a long time. The theory guiding this study was Herzberg’s two-factor theory of motivation-hygiene. This theory was particularly effective in addressing teacher retention because it provided a clear framework for understanding the factors that contribute to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This transcendental phenomenological study described the retention of special education teachers who taught in rural elementary school districts …

Perceptions Of Faculty Influence On Graduate Student Diversity Attitudes: A Phenomenological Study, Lyn Porter

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study is to understand the lived experiences regarding the perceived influence of faculty interactions in shaping diversity attitudes for graduate students in healthcare-related professions across the United States. The theory guiding this study is Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, which argues that social interactions deeply influence cognitive development (Vygotsky, 1978/1995). These interactions are necessary for the development of new skills and knowledge. Vygotsky also highlighted the role of culture in shaping how individuals think, learn, and interpret the world, suggesting that the cultural context in which faculty and students interact profoundly affects internalized values and attitudes. …
