Songwriting At Sae Creative Institute, Molly J. Devine, Saylene Tanielu-Ulberg Nov 2025

Songwriting At Sae Creative Institute, Molly J. Devine, Saylene Tanielu-Ulberg

Staff Scholarship - New Zealand

This article explores the integration of te reo Māori and Pacific languages into the first-year songwriting programme at the SAE Creative Institute. Co-authored by educators Molly Devine and Saylene Tanielu-Ulberg, the piece reflects on how collaborative songwriting serves as a powerful vehicle for wairua (indefinable spiritual essence) and cultural identity. By centering ancestral knowledge, cultural metaphors, and indigenous worldviews—such as the relational space of va—the curriculum empowers Māori and Pacific students to create music without fear. Ultimately, the authors highlight how reclaiming language and culture through music acts as a vital form of awakening and creative resistance against political …

A Holistic Approach: Strategies For Students With Cortical/Cerebral Visual Impairment, Nabiha Mujahid

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This study explored how Louisiana’s expanded definition of visual impairment has influenced professional practices in identifying and supporting students with Cortical or Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI). CVI, a brain-based visual condition, remains understudied, leaving educators with limited evidence-based guidance. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, this study examined the experiences, challenges, and strategies of professionals across eight key roles: Assistive Technology (AT) Specialists, Occupational Therapists (OTs), Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialists, paraprofessionals, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special education teachers, special education administrators, and Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and artifacts to capture interdisciplinary perspectives. Thematic …

Exploring Perceptions Of High School Paraprofessionals Regarding Training On The Use Of Prompts When Implementing Transition Plans For High School Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Candace Galvez Nov 2025

Exploring Perceptions Of High School Paraprofessionals Regarding Training On The Use Of Prompts When Implementing Transition Plans For High School Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Candace Galvez

Doctor of Education Program Dissertations

Paraprofessionals often assist teachers in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and require training to help students achieve the goal of independence (Ledford et al., 2018). However, there is a lack of quality training among paraprofessionals when implementing evidence-based teaching practices (Jones & Zarcone, 2014). The problem explored is the lack of quality training paraprofessionals receive in the use of prompts when they implement transition plans for students with ASD (Brock, 2022). The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of high school paraprofessionals in New Jersey state-approved private schools related to …

Beyond Phonics: Neuroaesthetic And Symbolic Divergence In Culturally Responsive Dyslexia Screening, Piper Hutson, James Hutson Nov 2025

Beyond Phonics: Neuroaesthetic And Symbolic Divergence In Culturally Responsive Dyslexia Screening, Piper Hutson, James Hutson

Faculty Scholarship

Recent advances in neuroscience and educational technology have challenged the traditional phonological-deficit model of dyslexia, revealing the profound influence of visual-symbolic processing, neuroaesthetic resonance, and cultural context in the reading brain. This article interrogates prevailing assessment paradigms by synthesizing research on the Visual Word Form Area (VWFA), cross-linguistic literacy systems, and emerging neurodiversity frameworks. The study addresses the urgent need to reconceptualize dyslexia as a heterogeneous divergence in symbolic processing—rooted as much in neuroaesthetic and visuospatial alignment as in phonemic awareness. Existing screeners, predominantly optimized for English and other Latin-based scripts, systematically neglect the cognitive realities of learners in multilingual …

Another Study Club??, Chris Gorecki Dds Nov 2025

Another Study Club??, Chris Gorecki Dds

Journal of the Macomb Dental Society

Membership value within professional dental organizations remains a critical issue as local and state societies face declining market shares, often below 40 percent. In contrast, the Macomb Dental Society currently maintains a market share of approximately 63 percent, underscoring both its relative strength and the need for continued innovation. Historically, membership was driven by professional obligation; however, newer dentists, burdened by financial pressures, are less likely to renew without clear demonstration of tangible benefits. To address this challenge, the Macomb Dental Society has explored initiatives that enhance member engagement, including leveraging existing study clubs as a conduit for continuing education …

Policy Into Practice: Examining Teachers’ Knowledge As A Predictor Of Teachers’ Attitude Towards Child Protection Classroom Integration, Floro T. Del Pilar Iii Nov 2025

Policy Into Practice: Examining Teachers’ Knowledge As A Predictor Of Teachers’ Attitude Towards Child Protection Classroom Integration, Floro T. Del Pilar Iii

Ateneo Institute for The Science and Art of Learning and Teaching

Research indicates that teachers' awareness and positive attitudes towards CPP are important for effective implementation in schools (Bayucca, 2020; dela Fuente, 2021). Previous studies have examined the level of knowledge of teachers about CPP and the teachers’ attitude towards CPP separately (Asio et al., 2020; Bayucca, 2020; Mag-atas & Carmona, 2023). However, there is a dearth of studies examining whether the teachers’ knowledge of child protection policy predicts their attitude towards integrating child protection policy into their classroom practices. This study aimed to examine the teachers’ knowledge of child protection policy as a predictor of their attitude towards integrating the …

The Moderating Role Of Affective Engagement On The Relationship Between Learning Autonomy And Cognitive Engagement, Neal Nikko D. Espejo

Ateneo Institute for The Science and Art of Learning and Teaching

The study explores the moderating role of affective engagement on the relationship between learning autonomy and cognitive engagement among university students. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, the research examines how affective engagement, characterized by emotional connection and enjoyment in learning, influences the effect of learning autonomy on cognitive engagement. The sample consisted of 178 business and information management students from a university in the Philippines, selected through purposive sampling. Using validated scales for learning autonomy, affective engagement, and cognitive engagement, data was analyzed through moderation techniques and simple slope analysis. The findings reveal that while both learning autonomy and affective engagement …

Assessing Digital Citizenship Among Students And Technology Competency Of Teachers, Mary Anthony C. Sieras Nov 2025

Assessing Digital Citizenship Among Students And Technology Competency Of Teachers, Mary Anthony C. Sieras

Ateneo Institute for The Science and Art of Learning and Teaching

Digital citizenship and technology competency are vital for effective teaching and learning in today’s technology-driven educational environment (Ribble, 2011). Despite widespread technology use, challenges persist regarding students’ responsible and ethical use of digital tools, highlighting the need for improved digital citizenship education (Ribble & Bailey, 2004). Teachers’ proficiency in integrating technology is key to fostering students’ positive digital practices (Department of Education, 2017). This study aimed to assess the digital citizenship levels of junior high school students and the technology competence of their teachers. Grounded in Mike Ribble’s nine elements of digital citizenship and the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers’ …

Publications

This study explores the relationship between distributed leadership and social justice leadership behaviors among K–12 school leaders in the South U.S. Survey responses from 179 principals and assistant principals showed a significant positive correlation. Leaders who engage in distributed leadership, particularly through community engagement and advocacy, tend to demonstrate social justice leadership practices. The findings emphasize the importance of collaborative leadership in creating inclusive schools and preparing future leaders to use distributed leadership strategies.
