Malate Dehydrogenase (MDH) and Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) activities were demonstrated in the mitochondrial and cytosolic fractions of an intestinal cestode, Taenia saginata, and then the in vitro effects of three anthelminthics, albendazole, niclosamide, and piperazine on these enzymes were investigated. The Vmax and Km values of MDH were found to be 3.00 \mumol (min mg protein) -1 and 0.0166 mM respectively. The purpose of this study is to investigate the presence of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection, phenotypical features and proliferative activity in Hodgkin's Disease (HD) for both the reactive and neoplastic cell populations. Malignant cells have more sialic acid in their cell membrane than normal cells. Many studies have shown that mean values of total sialic acid (TSA) or lipid-bound sialic acid (LSA) were higher in patients with cancer than in normal subjects. Cardiac troponin T (TnT) is a regulatory contractile protein not normally found in blood. Minor elevations of TnT in patients with unstable angina have been associated with an increased risk of subsequent death or Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). We used a neewly developed enzyme immunoassay for TnT to determine whether its presence in the serum of patients with unstable angina was a prognostic indicator. Vitiligo and alopecia areata present an excellent opportunity to f ocus on the effect of impaired appearance on the lives of the persons with these diseases. Emotional stress has precipitated vitiligo and alopecia areata in some patients. Twenty-eight patients suffering from alopecia areata and vitiligo and twenty healthy persons at ages between ten and sixty underwent psychological tests of examination with special regard to verification of their psychiatric symptoms. The results were compared for all groups. The results revealed that depressive symptomatology in patients with vitiligo and alopecia areata was higher than in the control group (respectively, 55%, 36%, 15%). …

The aim of this study was to con-struct a plasmid that would direct the expres-sion of a bacterial DNA methyltransferase in cultured mammalian cells. It was carried out with a PCR-based strategy for introducing three components' coding sequences into the transfection vector pcDNA 3 (Invitrogen). The protective effect of vitamins E and C on the gastric mucosal barrier in rats irradiated with X-rays was investigated. Thirty-two male Wistar Albino rats were used. Seven S-aroylmethyl N,N-disubstituted dithiocarbamate derivatives have been synthesized and their effects on oxotremorine induced tremor have been investigated on mice pretreated with the proparkinsonian drug haloperidol. While the compound 1f inhibited oxotremorine-induced tremors at doses of 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg levels, compounds 1a, 1c and 1e had this effect at the dose of 100 mg/kg. The compounds 1b, 1d and 1g had no effect on oxotremorine-induced tremors in mice. These results suggest that some of these derivatives have central antimuscarinic effects and antiparkinson activities.

The aim of this study is to examine expression of Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p53 oncoprotein in gastric neuroendocrine tumors. 35 gastric neuroendocrine tumors were analyzed for first histopathologic features and then, immunohistochemical study was done to detect labeling index of PCNA and accumulation of p53 protein by using monoclonal antibodies and the Labeled strepavidin-biotin method. PCNA labeling index and p53 protein expression were compared with histopatholoic features in statistical methods of Fisher's exact, chi square and logistic regression tests. In this study, we evaluated metabolic changes and the effects of flutamide in 22 women with PCOS. Flutamide was administered for a 6-month period in a dose of 750 mg/day. This study was undertaken to examine the laminar distribution of spinotelencephalic tract neurons in the rat, by means of retrograde fluorescent labelling and to estimate the role of NADPH-diaphorase-reactive spinal cells as sources of spino-supraspinal pathways in the rat. The localization, size and shape of some neurons were similar in both labelling methods. Cells were mostly multipolar in the medial part of nucl. proprius, and fusiform and spindle-shaped in lamina I and X. Dexfenfluramine is a variation of fenfluramine which is used for weight reduction. The aim of the study is to determine the hemodynamic and structural effects of this drug on pulmonary circulation. An experimintal study was carried out with New Zealand Rabbits. A control group (n=30) and an experimintal group (n=20) was constituted. An experimental study was designed to investigate the effect of diclofenac sodium (DS) on both renal parenchyma during complete unilateral ureteral obstruction. In 40 adult rats, left ureteropelvic junction were completely obstructed. Rats were divided into 4 equal groups and treated with cefoperazone (Group 2), DS (Group 3), cefoperazone and DS (Group 4) for one week postoperatively. No drug was given to Group 1 (control). This study was carried out to assess the role of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-\alpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6 ) in plasma and peritoneal fluid in higher rates of adhesion formation following standard bowel injury. This study is an evaluation of serum levels in the tumor markers CA 19-9 and CA 72-4 in gastric cancer patients in preoperative, postoperative and follow-up periods. These tumor markers were measured in 35 patients with primary gastric carcinoma (28 advanced stage, 7 early stage), 27 with benign gastric disease and 20 healthy control subjects. One of the most important obstacles in renal transplantation is the rejection phenomenon. In spite of the developments in medical technology and immunology, early diagnosis of rejection and specific immunosuppression of the immune attack against the graft have not yet been totally accomplished. ESWL is an effective and noninvasive method of treatment for patients with urinary stones. However, especially in the treatment of larger stones impact of the small stone particles in the lower ureter (steinstrasse) is a serious complication that affects the result of the procedure. If the renal unit has not been catheterized before the ESWL procedure, removal of these particles by open surgical or endoscopic intervention within a very short time is mandatory.
