Tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic disorder. The diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis requires the presence of two major or one major and two minor features. Pulmonary involvement has been reported to occur in less than 1% in patients and carries a poor prognosis. We present a female tuberous sclerosis patient with pulmonary involvement, evaluated for a positive PPD reaction.

Complications following cesarean and hysterectomy operations can occur, one of which is ureter ligation. Aims: Urological injuries that occur during hysterectomy are rare but important causes of morbidity. It was aimed to investigate in this case report whether there was any evidence to support malpractice in Court. Case Report: The patient was a woman in her 34^3 week of pregnancy with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and nephrotic syndrome with renal amyloidosis. Chondroblastic osteosarcoma (COS), a subgroup of intramedullary osteosarcoma, is usually located in the knee region of the body. It is most common in adolescents and early adulthood. COS has similar clinical and radiological features to those of conventional osteosarcomas. A 17-year-old male suffered from walking problems and lower limb pain. CT and MRI revealed a mass with soft tissue density and bone destruction at the level of L5-S1. It was described as \"posttraumatic hematoma\". Aim: The objectives of this study were to compare interleukin-6 (IL-6) and nitric oxide (NO) levels in newborns with culture-proven sepsis with levels in age- and gestational age (GA)-matched controls, and to investigate the correlation between mediator levels and circulatory functions in the septic group. Materials and Methods: Samples for IL-6 and NO levels were obtained from newborns with blood culture-proven sepsis before the beginning of antibiotic therapy and on the 3rd day of treatment. Aim: The precise pathogenetic mechanisms causing thrombotic complications in Behçet´s disease (BD) are still not known. To explain the pathogenesis with coagulation induction or a defective fibrinolysis superimposed on endothelial dysfunction, various hemostatic parameters were studied. Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI), downregulating plasmin generation and fibrinolysis, is a novel risk factor for thrombotic disorders. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the dose-related effects of fenthion on the liver and kidney and the correlation between severity of organ damage and serum butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzyme levels. Materials and Methods: Ninety rats were randomly subdivided into control group and 4 study groups. Control group was administered 1 ml of saline intraperitoneally. Congenital diaphragmatic eventration is an uncommon condition in adults and is defined as an abnormal elevation of the diaphragm. In adults, diaphragmatic eventration causes respiratory impairment that is associated with severe dyspnea, orthopnea and hypoxia. Most of the symptomatic patients may survive with supportive therapy without any need for surgical correction, though they are at risk of spontaneous diaphragm rupture. Clinical manifestations of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) include repeated episodes of arterial and/or venous thrombosis, recurrent fetal wastage, and premature births. Correct diagnosis of APS requires identification of lupus anticoagulant (LA) and anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL). Other antibodies such as anti-b2 glycoprotein-I have also been detected. A 32-year-old man presented with acute left-sided hemiplegia and was admitted with a possible diagnosis of primary APS. A pulmonary embolus-in-transit was captured incidentally by transthoracic echocardiographic study.

Aim: Catalepsy occurs following high dopamine D2 receptor blockade by the typical antipsychotic drug haloperidol. The present study investigated the effect of different drugs affecting monoamine neurotransmission in this animal model of Parkinson's disease in mice. Materials and Methods: Drugs were intraperitoneally administered with haloperidol 30 min prior to testing. Catalepsy was measured using the bar test. Results: Catalepsy duration was reduced by the non-selective noradrenaline and serotonin reuptake inhibitors imipramine and amitriptyline (21.1% and 22.3% reduction by 20 mg/kg imipramine and amitriptyline, respectively). Aim: The present study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis in patients with diarrhea who attended Al-Nasser Pediatric Hospital in Gaza. Materials and Methods: From January to May 2005, single stool specimens from each of 416 children attending Al-Nasser Hospital were examined by Ziehl Neelsen (ZN) stain and ELISA for the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts. Results: Cryptosporidium oocysts were detected in 62 (14.9%) of the tested specimens by acid-fast staining technique and in 68 (16.3%) using ELISA kit. Montelukast, widely used in the treatment of asthma, is a selective and potent oral cysteinyl leukotriene-1 receptor antagonist. In this study, we investigated the effects of montelukast on oxidative stress and antioxidant defense in childhood asthma by measuring malondialdehyde and the paraoxonase activity. Twenty-five children with mild to moderate atopic asthma and 25 nonatopic children as controls were enrolled in the study. Asthmatic children were treated with montelukast, 5 mg tablets, for one month. Serum paraoxonase, malondialdehyde and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels were measured before and after treatment. A 49-year-old male, who had undergone mitral valve replacement with mechanical cardiac valve and coronary arterial by-pass grafting six years previously, was admitted to our hospital with acute dyspnea. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed that one of the leaflets of the prosthetic valve was entirely immobilized in the closed position, and an immobile soft tissue mass was detected on the ventricular side of the obstructed leaflet. A 56-year-old man had a 6 x 5-cm mass originating from the fossa ovalis in the atrial septum found by echocardiography and multiple enlarging scalp masses. The mass had a regular surface and was prolapsing into the mitral valve during diastole. The tumor was successfully treated by surgical excision, which revealed a well-defined mass with a narrow-base stalk originating from the fossa ovalis in the atrial septum. Penile fractures are classically described as presenting with rapid detumescence of an erection associated with blunt trauma. This clinical finding is due to a tear in the tunica albuginea surrounding the corpora cavernosum. In this study, we report and discuss a case of trichotillomania and penile bending impulse resulting in penile fracture, which was operated in the urology clinic. The possible psychological and psychiatric problems underlying the impulsive behavior are discussed, and the value of a psychiatric evaluation is emphasized.

Aim: The antibacterial effect of lidocaine has been studied widely, but the effect of articaine has not yet been evaluated. We aimed to investigate whether commercially available articaine possesses bactericidal or bacteriostatic effect in comparison with lidocaine in a prospective laboratory setting. Lower levels of folate and vitamin B12 were reported in mothers whose offspring had neural tube defects compared to unaffected controls. Overproduction of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species leads to oxidative stress and decreased total antioxidant capacity, which is responsible for high mortality from several diseases such as endotoxic shock. Nitric oxide (NO) produced by inducible NO synthase (iNOS) during endotoxemia is the major cause of vascular hyporeactivity, hypotension and multiple organ failure. We investigated whether NO-mediated oxidative stress in rat heart, aorta and mesenteric artery is involved in the attenuation of endotoxin-induced hypotension by inhibition of iNOS. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is an inflammatory condition of unknown etiology. The exact role of the leukocytes in the pathogenesis of RAS is not known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of the oxidative system in neutophils of RAS patients. Urothelial carcinomas (UC) are the most common cancer type of the urinary system. The early diagnosis and treatment of UC are very important.The aim of this study was to evaluate the importance of the nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) in early diagnosis of UC and to present its variation in cystitis and urothelial dysplasia (UD). The aim of this study is to compare two accepted techniques; intravenous (IV) remifentanil infusion versus its combination with paracervical block (PCB) in patients undergoing transvaginal ultrasound guided oocyte retrieval (TUGOR). One hundred unpremedicated patients were divided into two groups to receive either IV remifentanil (Group R) or IV remifentanil plus PCB (Group R+PCB). After monitoring cardiopulmonary parameters, remifentanil infusion of 0.25 µg kg^{-1} min-1 was started in both in groups.
