Short Hebrew International Physical Activity Questionnaire: Reliability And Validity, Eyal Weissblueth

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) aims to measure physical activity consistency throughout the world. It has been translated into many languages and its validity has been examined worldwide. However, the IPAQ has not been translated into Hebrew and the psychometric properties of the Hebrew version have yet to be evaluated. Material/Methods: The current study assessed the test-retest reliability of the short IPAQ in Hebrew (IPAQ-S-H) and its validity among college students. Intra-class correlation coefficients were computed to assess reliability, and survey responses were compared to VO2max to determine concurrent validity. Results: The IPAQ-S-H’s test-retest reliability was primarily high, …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The ACTN3 R577X polymorphism has been associated with an elite athlete status. Several studies have determined that the R allele is connected with power-oriented athletic performance, whereas the nonfunctional XX genotype may give some beneficial effect for endurance performance. The main aim of the study was to determine the possible interaction between the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism and an endurance athlete status in a group of Polish rowers in comparison with sedentary individuals. Material/Methods: 121 male Polish rowers, members of academic sports clubs, and 115 unrelated volunteers were recruited for the study. Genotyping for the R577X variant was performed by …

An Analysis Of The Barbell Motion Depending On Its Weight In Disabled Powerlifting, Wojciech Seidel, Anna Zurowska

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The aim of the study was to assess the symmetry of flexion and extension movements in upper limbs in disabled powerlifters during bench press with different barbell loads. Material/Methods: 29 disabled athletes from the National Powerlifting Team were examined. Mean age was between 23.9 ± 6.1. Mean sport experience was 5.4 ± 3.6 years. Results: Both flexion and extension movement were performed symmetrically, which was indicated by an insignificant (p < 0.05) difference in the movement onset in the left and the right upper limb. Conclusions: Time differences in the movement onset and the achievement of maximal angular velocity were statistically insignificant in all trials (loads from 40% to 95% 1RM). During extension with loads over 60% 1RM differences in time of achieving maximal angular velocity were statistically significant or close.

Background: Recent epidemiological analyses in fencing have shown that injuries and pain linked specifically to fencing training/competition were evident in 92.8% of fencers. Specifically the prevalence of Achilles tendon pathology has increased substantially in recent years, and males have been identified as being at greater risk of Achilles tendon injury compared to their female counterparts. This study aimed to examine gender differences in Achilles tendon loading during the fencing lunge. Material/Methods: Achilles tendon load was obtained from eight male and eight female club level epee fencers using a 3D motion capture system and force platform information as they completed simulated …

Systematic Review Of The Bioecological Theory In Sport Sciences, Marcio Domingues, Carlos Eduardo Barros Goncalves 2022 University of Coimbra, Faculty of Sport Sciences, Coimbra, Portugal

Systematic Review Of The Bioecological Theory In Sport Sciences, Marcio Domingues, Carlos Eduardo Barros Goncalves

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

The purpose of the present review was to provide an up-to-date summary of the bio ecological theory in sport literature. Systematic reviews can facilitate decision-making in areas where randomized control trials (RCTs) have not been performed or are inappropriate. In order to appreciate the status of current knowledge and understanding and to identify potential future directions, the authors conducted a synthesis of published work in sports science using a systematic-review methodology. Published since 1977, Bronfenbrenner’s model of human development provided an ecological lens for identifying and synthesizing barriers to sport participation. From a search of electronic databases, findings comprised 1120 …
