An Examination Of How Environmental, Social, Governance (Esg) Investing Influences A Company's Stock Return, Sam Marty
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Projects
Using a random sample of 184 companies traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 2019, this paper investigates the impact of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) investing on a company’s stock return. The results show that ESG investing has a positive and statistically significant impact on a company’s stock return. An increase in one ESG rating leads to an increase between 0.4% and 3.6% in the return of a company’s stock. Additionally, the results show that individual ESG factors are each statistically insignificant. This indicates that the three ESG factors need to be viewed together rather than individually. Lastly, the …

Individual It Uses And Their Antecedents: A Social Theory Perspective, Jason Williams
Individual It Uses And Their Antecedents: A Social Theory Perspective, Jason Williams
PhD in Business Administration Dissertations
The use of information technology (IT) is foundational to modern work systems. However, the IT use construct is not fully understood and has not been clearly defined. Confounding the understanding of IT use are similar, yet often conflicting, conceptualizations, indicative of the jangle fallacy. The jingle fallacy is also found in the inconsistent measures employed to study the IT use construct. Consequently, the existing literature does show that there are multiple forms of use. Further, adoptive IT use has long been understood to be fundamentally different from post-adoptive IT use, but few theories have sought to bring these two concepts …

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
The unique attractiveness factor of a container port has a direct influence on the carriers’ deployment of their routes and schedules, that is, the attractiveness of the port will affect the port selecting evaluation of the carriers, which will directly impact the future status and competitiveness of a port. Therefore, this paper aimed to establish a fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS (Analytic Hierarchy Process-Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) evaluation model for selecting the most attractive port for container carriers. Firstly, this paper concluded the six evaluation dimensions and 24 important attractiveness criteria (factors) for carriers to select a port. …

Bigenderism At Work: Organizational Responses To Trans Men And Trans Women Employees, Joel Rudin, Tejinder Kaur Billing, Andrea Farro, Yang Yang
Rohrer College of Business Departmental Research
This study aims to test bigenderism, a universalistic theory that purports to explain why trans men employees enjoy greater organizational acceptance and superior economic outcomes compared to trans women employees. Respondents were presented with one of two case studies in which they had to choose whether or not to respect the right of a trans employee to use the restroom of their choice at work. The only difference between the two case studies was the gender of the trans employee. In one case, the employee was a trans man and in the other case, the employee was a trans woman. …
The Passion Bug: How And When Do Leaders Inspire Work Passion?, Violet Ho, Marina N. Astakhova
The Passion Bug: How And When Do Leaders Inspire Work Passion?, Violet Ho, Marina N. Astakhova
Management Faculty Publications
Drawing from signaling theory, we propose a work passion transfer model where leaders' passion is transmitted to employees through the former's leadership style and is contingent on employees' perceived importance of performance to self-esteem (IPSE). Data from 201 supervisor–employee dyads from the health-care industry show that leaders' harmonious passion led to employees' harmonious passion through charismatic leadership, whereas contingent reward leadership accounted for the transfer of obsessive passion; IPSE did not play a moderating role for either form of passion. Results from a supplementary study further reveal that the link between leadership and employee passion operated through employees' perception of …

2020 Cares Act – Financial Supports For Small Business, Marilyn R. Schlake
Cornhusker Economics
Whether a business is impacted by weather-related disasters, road construction or sudden economic downturns, having a plan to mitigate the impacts can be crucial to the immediate and long-term survival of the business. Unforeseen circumstances, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, may require owners to re-evaluate their business models, cut operating costs and seek outside financial supports – all to keep cash flowing and the business open. To help small businesses during the pandemic, the Coronavirus Aid Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27. It contains $349 billion in relief for American small businesses and …

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
Today’s global awareness of environmental risks and the pressing needs to compete through efficiency have led to stronger initiatives in the green movement across industries. We examine organizations’ annual revenue levels and their connections to organizational green orientation and impact, quality management programs, and employee perceptions of cultural practices and organizational performance. Results indicate high-revenue organizations use quality management tools more extensively with greater green impact and low-revenue organizations have a more informal and decentralized organizational culture

Explanation And Rigor In Management Theorizing: Which Theory-Building Criteria Make For An Influential Contribution?, Jaume Franquesa, William Acar, Jino Mwaka
Explanation And Rigor In Management Theorizing: Which Theory-Building Criteria Make For An Influential Contribution?, Jaume Franquesa, William Acar, Jino Mwaka
Business Administration Faculty Scholarship
This paper advances and tests a comprehensive but parsimonious model of theory-building/evaluation criteria in management and organization science, and of the relationships between these criteria and a theory's eventual prominence within the discipline. The model is tested using survey data in which knowledgeable scholars are asked to provide a detailed assessment of the traits of one of a few well-known seminal theoretical articles that are used as vehicles. The results support the presence of three distinct but correlated dimensions of theory evaluation (novelty, extendibility, and relevance to practice) and further provide confirmatory evidence of an overarching, second-order construct, which we …

Parental Financial Conditions As A Source Of Stress On First-Generation Tjc Honors Students, Michelle Reyes
Parental Financial Conditions As A Source Of Stress On First-Generation Tjc Honors Students, Michelle Reyes
Undergraduate Research Conference
INTRODUCTION
Parental support is a key factor in a child's development. Motivation coming from a parent is a substantial help on the realization of tasks. The involvement of parents on children's education is directly proportional to the level of achievement and success of the students. In low income families, parental support can be translated to pressure, the anxiety of seeing their children to pursue a career and achieve success is not a desire but it is a necessity. Regularly, the students’ parents will use their own lack of financial stability as an example to motivate their children to be better. …
Having Newcomers In Diverse Teams: The Effects Of Subgroup Identification And Established Faultlines On Newcomer Information Seeking And Team Creativity, Xing Liu
Theses and Dissertations
The current literature has demonstrated the importance of newcomers’ information seeking on their socialization in teams and the consequences of newcomers on team outcomes such as team creativity. However, there is limited knowledge on the antecedents of newcomer information seeking and team creativity in diverse teams after the entry of a newcomer. In this dissertation, with a focus on newcomers in diverse teams, I investigated two phenomena at the individual level and team level, respectively. At the individual level, I explored the influence of newcomers’ subgroup identification on information seeking via their feelings of psychological safety and the role of …
Screened Out Of Housing: The Impact Of Misleading Tenant Screening Reports And The Potential For Criminal Expungement As A Model For Effectively Sealing Evictions, Katelyn Polk
Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy
Having an eviction record “blacklists” tenants from finding future housing. Even renters with mere eviction filings—not eviction orders—on their records face the harsh collateral consequences of eviction. This Note argues that eviction records should be sealed at filing and only released into the public record if a landlord prevails in court. Juvenile record expungement mechanisms in Illinois serve as a model for one way to protect people with eviction records. Recent updates to the Illinois juvenile expungement process provided for the automatic expungement of certain records and strengthened the confidentiality protections of juvenile records. Illinois protects juvenile records because it …
