Factors Influencing The Case Selection Of Irs Special Agents, Robert A. Warren

This study examines how Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation (CI) Special Agents select cases to investigate during a period of stagnant budgets and significant personnel attrition. Semi-structured interviews (N=30) of current and retired agents and supervisors, along with information gleaned from published reports and through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, suggests that special agents did not believe that the 13% reduction of IRS-CI's appropriated funding from 2010 to 2016 impeded their ability to select and investigate the best tax and money laundering cases, even though the funding gap resulted in a 19% reduction in special agents. Under the Mentored Experience Grant, six students studies the impact that non-work activities (recreation or leisure) have on individual contributors or organization. Some employees refrain from participating in Leisure-at-Work (LAW) due to lack of time or skill, to cliques, to differing preferences, or fear of negative connotations. Employees report that LAW increases productivity, establishes and enriches social interactions, improves communication, attracts and retains employees in a company, and facilitates a culture of engagement, trust, and camaraderie. At the conclusion of our analysis, we identified areas of future research and recommendations for best practice.

This paper contributes to the union renewal literature by examining the union voting propensity of workers in the high-tech tertiary sector of videogame development toward different forms of unionization. We used exclusive data from a survey of videogame developers (VGD) working primarily in Anglo-Saxon countries. When looking at the factors related to voting propensity, our data indicated that the type of unionism matters and that industry/sectoral unionism is an increasingly salient model for project-based knowledge workers. This is an important policy dimension given that the legal structures and norms in Anglo-Saxon countries still tend to support decentralized enterprise-based unionism. It …

This paper focuses on the reflections of a doctoral research that evaluated the challenges of the adoption and implementation of a knowledge management (KM) initiative through the experiences of the knowledge champions. The African/Nigerian socio-cultural view was used to explore the narrative accounts of the knowledge champions. A case study research was carried out using qualitative approaches. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was used in data analysis. The findings demonstrated the ability to ground KM adoption within a socio-cultural specific context helped in making sense of the organizational KM experience. There has been a great deal of academic material and public policy published on food deserts, however, there still are significant gaps of understanding in regard to the lived experience of those individuals residing within those geographical locations. This study employed a qualitative methodology to elicit the lived experiences of 20 people who are living within a food desert. The findings from this research suggest those residing in food deserts, do not plan their purchases and travel to markets outside of their immediate neighborhoods in search of food products that have quality, variety and lower price points.
