Evaluate 503b Facilities For Outsourced Compounds, Sarah Clemente, Brittany Riley, Alberto Coustasse

Pharmacy Practice & Administration

The US health care system has encountered long-standing, complex challenges, including growing costs, overuse of care, staffing shortages and supply chain weaknesses. COVID-19 revived these pressures, transforming the health care landscape. Medication and staffing shortages plague hospital systems, and pharmacies are not exempt. Most health systems have experienced high levels of pharmacy technician turnover, with most reporting a minimum turnover rate of 21% last year. In addition, medication shortages of critical medications and infusions create significant workflow barriers that hospitals must address to ensure patient safety. In the face of these obstacles, health systems are turning to 503B compounding facilities …

Gabapentin Presents High Potential For Misuse, Alberto Coustasse, Stacie Deslich, Susan W. Lanham, Brittany Riley

Management Faculty Research

The FDA Approved Gabapentin in 1993 as a non-controlled substance and it has remained a non-controlled substance at the federal level. The drug was created as an anticonvulsant and used to treat seizure disorders. The medication has also been used to treat hot flashes, neuropathic pain, pain, postoperative nausea, substance abuse issues, and vomiting. It is estimated that approximately 1% of people in the United States misuse gabapentin. This fact has compelled certain states to generate legislative initiatives designed to monitor the use and/or reclassify gabapentin. In 2019, US pharmacies dispensed 69 million prescriptions for gabapentin.

Moderated Mediation Research - The Impact Of Organizational Change Capability On Organizational Engagement - The Role Of Organizational Trust And Leadership Style, Jin Liang

Fordham Dissertations and Theses

With the rapid development of emerging technologies, representative by *ABCDMIX, disruption brought by the innovation is rampant across industries: competition boundaries have become blurred, cross-border penetration between industries is ubiquitous, and many established enterprises’ business models have been shaken. Despite the adaptive adjustments made by organizations, most corporations are still struggling to get out of this predicament.

The failure of a mature enterprise’s adjustments is often attributed to the belief that the corporation's strategy was wrongly formulated, or that the strategy’s positive direction was undermined due to the rigid nature of the organization. It is important to consider what exactly …

Hiring Decisions: Impacts Of Applicant Gender And Social Media Presence, Alicia Ostrowski Nov 2022

Hiring Decisions: Impacts Of Applicant Gender And Social Media Presence, Alicia Ostrowski

Honors College Theses

Studies show that hiring decisions can be influenced by an applicant’s social media profile (Broughton et al., 2013) as well as their gender (Garcia-Retamero & Lopez-Zafra, 2009). Women, compared to men, are more likely to face hiring discrimination (Garcia-Retamero & Lopez-Zafra, 2009) and many hiring managers tend to look at an applicant’s social media profiles for additional information during the hiring process (Broughton et al., 2013). There is a lack of substantial research on the combination of these two factors. This study examined the effects of gender and social media type on hiring decisions.

Dentistry And The Law: Ex-Employees Who Solicit Patients Using Stolen Information, Dan Schulte Jd Nov 2022

Dentistry And The Law: Ex-Employees Who Solicit Patients Using Stolen Information, Dan Schulte Jd

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This month’s Dentistry and the Law column discusses actions to take with a former employee who solicits patients. In cases where former employees solicit patients using stolen patient information, dental practices can take legal action. Employment agreements and employee handbooks should include confidentiality clauses. Breach of these clauses allows for lawsuits, seeking damages for business loss. Additional claims like tortious interference, unfair competition, and misappropriation may also apply. Michigan's Uniform Trade Secrets Act can provide injunctive relief and damages if the patient information is deemed a "trade secret." Seeking legal advice from an experienced attorney is essential.

Staff Matters: When Do Comments About Age Become Discriminatory?, Jodi Schafer Sphr, Shrm-Scp

Age-related comments in the workplace can lead to discrimination and legal consequences. The federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) protects employees aged 40 or older, while Michigan law extends protection to all ages. Harassment based on age can create a hostile work environment and result in lawsuits. Employers should address such issues, educate employees about discrimination and bias, and promote a culture that values diversity.

How To Budget Better For Dental Supplies, Theodore C. Schumann Ii Mba, Msf, Cfp, Aif

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

Managing costs effectively is essential for dental practices in an era of rising inflation. One area where overspending can occur is clinical supplies. Over time, complacency among practice owners or staff in charge of ordering supplies can lead to repeated, uninformed purchases. Setting a budget and utilizing technology for supply-sourcing decisions can help control costs. Group purchasing organizations like The Dentists Supply Company (TDSC) can offer significant savings compared to traditional dental distributors. Additionally, practice owners need to strike a balance between bargain shopping for supplies and productive dentistry. Using inferior, cheaper products can lead to complications and costly rework, …
