Managing The Global Virtual Workforce: Reducing The Liability Of Foreignness, Carol M. Sanchez, Rebekah Arndt

Effective management of global virtual workforces may reduce the liability of foreignness. As more organizations do business across borders, global workforce effectiveness is critical given logistic, language and cultural distances. Based on theories of global workforces, virtual technology use, cultural differences, and common language policy, we posit that global virtual workforces will better succeed if organizations (1) select appropriate communication technology, (2) train members to navigate cultural differences, and (2) adopt a language policy. We highlight strategies with examples from conversations with managers of several organizations, and we emphasize unexpected benefits to organizations that successfully manage their global virtual workforce.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) positively impacts relationships between firms and customers. Previous research construes this as an outcome of customers’ warm glow that results from supporting firms’ benevolence. The current research demonstrates that beyond warm glow, CSR positively impacts firms’ sales through mitigating their customers’ perceptions of purchase risk. We demonstrate this effect across three conditions in which customers’ perceived risk of purchase is heightened, using both secondary data and two lab experiments. Under conditions of greater purchase risk (i.e., recessions, a service context, and longer-term consumer commitments), CSR positively impacts both sales and customer purchase intentions to a greater …

The purpose of this study was to meta-analytically test a novel theoretical model examining a dual stressor and dual process model relating demands in the work domain to outcomes in the nonwork domain. The foundation for this model rested upon the challenge-hindrance framework and the role depletion and role enhancement perspectives derived from role theory as applied to the work-nonwork interface. The results show mixed support for the proposed model. In line with the challenge-hindrance framework the effects of challenge stressors were less detrimental than hindrance stressors. This study compares Generation Y, the largest generation in the current labor market, and Generation Z, the most recent generation to enter the work force, with respect to their career goals and work expectations in the context of an emerging European market, Croatia. The data for this empirical study were collected through a survey from undergraduate (representing Generation Z) and graduate students (representing Generation Y) from two large state universities in Croatia. In this paper, we examine the social media activity surrounding three different brands (Hulu, Netflix, and Disney+) using two different and complimentary techniques. In Study 1, we use a popular social listening tool to examine quantitative data of different kinds including the share of voice of these brands as well as the major geographic markets and languages associated with these brands' social media activity. In this paper we present ppmlhdfe, a new Stata command for estimation of (pseudo) Poisson regression models with multiple high-dimensional fixed effects (HDFE). Estimation is implemented using a modified version of the iteratively reweighted least-squares (IRLS) algorithm that allows for fast estimation in the presence of HDFE. Because the code is built around the reghdfe package, it has similar syntax, supports many of the same functionalities, and benefits from reghdfe’s fast convergence properties for computing high-dimensional least squares problems. การสั่นปอด เป็นเทคนิคหนึ่งที่ช่วยระบายเสมหะออกจากระบบเดินหายใจให้เเก่ผู้ป่วย สามารถทำได้โดยใช้มือเปล่าหรือใช้เครื่องสั่นปอดสร้างแรงสั่นผ่านผนังทรวงอกลงไปยังจุดที่เสมหะคั่งค้าง ซึ่งตลอดการสั่นปอดผู้ดำเนินการต้องสัมผัสใกล้ชิดผู้ป่วยในระยะเสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อ โดยเฉพาะในสถานการณ์การเเพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัส COVID-19 ที่มีเเนวโน้มรุนเเรงเเละควบคุมได้ยากยิ่งขึ้น จึงเป็นความเสี่ยงในการปฏิบัติงานของบุคลากรทางการเเพทย์ เครื่องสั่นปอด ChestViBe เป็นสิ่งประดิษฐ์ที่จะช่วยลดความเสี่ยงดังกล่าวได้ โดยจุดเด่นคือ เป็นเครื่องไร้สาย ควบคุมการทำงานผ่าน Smart phone ได้ในระยะที่ปลอดภัยจากการติดเชื้อ เเละเป็นเครื่องเเรกที่มีการศึกษาเเละพัฒนาขึ้นในประเทศไทย การศึกษานี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นไปได้ในการนำเครื่องสั่นปอด ChestViBe ไปใช้ในเชิงพาณิชย์ โดยศึกษาเเละประเมินในด้านต่าง ๆ เพื่อสรุปความเป็นไปได้เเละเสนอเเนวทางการนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ในเชิงพาณิชย์ โดยเป็นการศึกษาแบบผสมผสานทั้งเชิงคุณภาพ เเละเชิงปริมาณ โดยเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากแพทย์เวชศาสตร์ฟื้นฟู เเละนักเทคนิคการเเพทย์ ด้วยวิธีการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก เเละด้วยเเบบสอบถาม ผลการศึกษาพบว่า กลุ่มตัวอย่างกว่า 99% สนใจจะใช้เครื่องสั่นปอด ChestViBe โดยเห็นว่าเครื่องจะช่วยลดภาระ อำนวยความสะดวก รวมถึงจะช่วยลดความเสี่ยง ความกังวล และโอกาสที่บุคลากรทางการแพทย์จะได้รับเชื้อโรคจากการดูแลผู้ป่วยได้ ประกอบกับผลการประเมินด้านเทคโนโลยีเเละด้านการตลาดที่เเสดงให้เห็นถึงความพร้อม จุดเด่นเเละปัจจัยสนับสนุนในการนำออกสู่ตลาด จึงสรุปได้ว่า เครื่องสั่นปอด ChestViBe มีความเป็นไปได้ในการนำไปใช้ในเชิงพาณิชย์ โดยแนวทางการนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ที่เหมาะสม คือ การอนุญาตให้ใช้สิทธิ (Licensing) เนื่องจากใช้งบลงทุนน้อย ผลตอบแทนชัดเจน ความเสี่ยงในการทำธุรกิจต่ำ และผู้พัฒนายังคงเป็นเจ้าของสิทธิในเทคโนโลยี ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์ในการต่อยอดในอนาคต ประมาณการ ค่าเปิดเผยเทคโนโลยี (Disclosure fee) เป็นเงิน 1,040,000 บาท และ ค่าตอบแทนการอนุญาตให้ใช้สิทธิ (Royalty fee) 4.8% จากยอดขาย/ปี

The purpose of this grounded theory study was to explore the lived experience of foreign-born professional highly skilled employees living in the United States working for U.S.-centric organizations and the impact the interplay between their ethnic culture and the organization’s culture has had on their creativity in the workplace. Fourteen participants were interviewed and shared their experiences of creativity, providing rich stories.
