The Spirit Mercurius Of Rabelais, Dorothy S. Wyatt

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the presence of salt and Mercurius in Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel. This element and this alchemical personification of the process of transformation will be viewed in light of works of psychoanalysis and alchemical symbolism by C. G. Jung. To broach a study of this type implies an overlap of psychoanalytical theory and critical literary theory. This study is being done in order to ascertain the conscious and subconscious influence of the author.

Known as Aliénor "until David Hume vandalized her name into 'Eleanor'," this Queen.of France, along with her children, spread a love of poetry and music to many provinces in France. French poets followed her across the English Channel when she became Queen of England and introduced their art to the English Court.

Previous studies have taken Christianity for granted in this novel. To date, however, no inquiry has attempted to analyze its Christian elements. In this thesis, we are seeking to fill this lacuna.

First, we have noted that the Christian elements are presented in opposite pairs: body-soul, finite-infinite, etc. Next, we have brought out the relationship of these pairs to Christian tradition. This has made it possible to conclude that the source of such a polarity is to be found in the Creation. What in the Divine Mind was one became manifold. This dissertation is the first serious effort towards the evaluation of Efraín Huerta's poetry, and the defining of his place in Mexican letters. The introduction focuses on the lack of any biographical study and on the meager criticism that exists on his very important work. It proceeds to formulate a bio-bibliographical statement compiled from scattered materials in reviews and dictionaries of literature with the purpose of correcting that situation. The purpose of the study was to compile a list of books for French teachers for their personal professional collections recommended by good French teachers. The survey instrument, which included an initial list of seventeen recommended books, was sent to French teachers in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois whose students scored first through fifth in the 1975 National French Contest. The researcher assumed that this population, could include some good French teachers.

Dr. Wrench discusses the film The Sorrow and the Pity (1969) from a social-psychological viewpoint, in contrast to the moralistic view of the other conference speakers. He sees history and psychology as closely related which has led to his special interest in psycho-history.
