Cobalt(Iii) Complexes With 1,2-Propanediaminediacetic Acid, Paul John Magnell Dec 1970

Cobalt(Iii) Complexes With 1,2-Propanediaminediacetic Acid, Paul John Magnell

Masters Theses

Introduction

Aminocarboxylic acid cobalt(III) complexes have been of interest to inorganic chemists since 1909 when Ley and Winkler isolated violet and rose colored geometric isomers of tris amino acid complexes of glycine and alanine.1 More recently, considerable interest has been shown in the study of the stereochemistry and optical activity arising from configurational and vicinal interactions of these complexes. Nuclear magnetic resonance of the methylene protons on the carboxylate portion of the coordinated ligand has also been studied.

Of immediate interest to this study is the stereo-chemistry of complexes containing flexible tetradentate ligands. A tetradentate ligand may be constructed …

Direct Estimation Evaluation Of Rehabilitation Patients By Non-Expert Judges, Martin T. Ivers

Theses and Dissertations

The investigation completed by Lipp (Evaluation of rehabilitation patients by direct estimation procedures, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of North Dakota, 1969) demonstrated that exceedingly reliable ratio scale measurement of degree of physical disability could be achieved by expert judges (Js) using direct estimation procedures.

In the present investigation, 10 J^s without formal rehabilitation training or experience made magnitude estimations of degree of physical disability shown by 10 rehabilitation patients in the modalities of ambulation and transfer. The patients' behaviors were depicted by the videotape recording which were used in the Lipp investigation. The magnitude estimation portion of the Lipp investigation was …

A Study Of The Bulk Electrical Resistivity Characteristics Of Fly Ash From Lignite And Other Western Coals, Warren Ernest Bucher Dec 1970

A Study Of The Bulk Electrical Resistivity Characteristics Of Fly Ash From Lignite And Other Western Coals, Warren Ernest Bucher

Theses and Dissertations

Fly ash produced from burning fossil fuels presents an air pollution problem when it is discharged into the atmosphere. Fly ash can be removed from gases using electrostatic precipitation. Efficiency of precipitation depends to a large extent on the bulk electrical resistivity of the fly ash which in turn depends on conditions such as ash temperature, moisture content of the gas, and ash composition. Bulk electrical resistivity is the total resistivity of a dust layer.

A bulk electrical resistivity testing apparatus was built and operated according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Power Test Code 28 to investigate the …

Cognitive Dissonance As A Function Of Internal-External Locus Of Control, Dennis U. Spjut Dec 1970

Cognitive Dissonance As A Function Of Internal-External Locus Of Control, Dennis U. Spjut

Theses and Dissertations

According to cognitive dissonance theory engaging in behavior inconsistent with one's beliefs arouses dissonance. When individuals choose to engage in a boring and repetitious task they tend to positively reevaluate the task. Recent research (Pallak, et al. 1967) using an incidental verbal learning paradigm indicates that subjects who voluntarily commit themselves to performing a boring task reduce dissonance via enhanced task performance rather than through positive task reevaluation. Both the arousal of dissonance and its reduction can be expected to vary with individual differences. The present study investigated the individual differences of sex and internal-external locus of control as related …

Baseline Response Rate And The Effect Of A Stimulus Which Precedes Response-Independent Reinforcement, William M. Arnold

Masters Theses

The relationship between baseline response rate and the effect of presenting a stimulus followed by response-independent reinforcement on baseline response rate was investigated in this study. Six pigeons were divided into two equal groups, one of which was conditioned to key peck on a VI-DRH schedule of food reinforcement, the other on a VI-DRL schedule of food reinforcement. Once responding had stabilized, a tone was introduced seven times during each session followed by a response-independent food reinforcement. The results indicated no change in the response rate of the VI-DRH group during the tone, and acceleration of responding during the tone …
