David McClelland's theory of n Achievement (n Ach.) and Max Weber's theory of achievement implicit in THE PROTESTANT ETHIC AND THE SPIRIT OF CAPITALISM are experimentally analyzed and compared with Theodore Kemper's theory of reference groups in an attempt to determine the relative importance of factors of the immediate social situation versus ingrained personality characteristics in in the development and modification of achievement motivation. Male Roles As Perceived By Children Of Employed And Non-Employed Mothers, Mary Jane Williams Swapp

This study was done to determine whether maternal employment affected the child's perception of male roles. The study was designed to see if the child viewed the male in a more negative or positive way or if he perceived the male as taking more instrumental or expressive roles when the child's mother was employed. The hypotheses predicted that there would be no difference in the children's perceptions of male roles between mother-employed and mother-not-employed groups, and that there would also be no difference between the sexes on children's perceptions of male roles .

Purpose was to collect and sample the attitudes of "blue collar" adolescents toward the employment of women and child rearing practices. Data were from 304 adolescents whose father s fit the requirements of being "blue collar." A questionnaire was administered that asked for attitudes and reactions to questions related to the employment of a woman through the normal stages of a family cycle and for attitudes related to child rearing practices.

Recent research studies indicate the importance of sensory input in the development of perceptual skills. Learning the alphabet, an abstract symbol system, is considered a perceptual task. The major purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of a visual experience reinforced by a sensori-motor experience in improving the ability of kindergarten pupils to perceive the configuration of alphabet letters and the order of these letters in a word.

Two separate kindergarten classes were selected as the experimental and control groups. The learning task was individualized through the use of each subject's own name.

A Comparison Of Self-Evaluation In Home Management And Achievement Motivation Of University Students In Home Management Residence Laboratory Course, Kathleen Slaugh

Self-evaluation in home management and its relationship to achievement motivation was investigated. The discrepancy between student self-evaluation and adviser evaluation was correlated with achievement motivation.

The sample consisted of 33 female students, residents of -the Home Management House during Spring Quarter of the 1968-69 school year and Fall and Winter Quarters of the 1969-70 school year.

The instruments used were: (1) a background questionnaire; (2) Management Resource Scale, and (3) Litwin Decision-Making Test. The statistical test used was the Pearson r (correlation coefficient).

The types and frequency of deviance, and the relationship between deviance and factors in the pre-Intermountain, Intermountain, and post-Intermountain experiences were studied using the male population of the 1964 graduating class at Intermountain School, Brigham City, Utah.

Among the important findings are the following. Of 233 total deviant acts, 84 were time schedule violations and 66 were drinking and drinking-related violations. The quantitative pattern of deviance was about the same during the sophomore and junior years and then decreased during the senior year. There was an inverse relationship between family size and deviance. The lowest average deviance rate occurred among …

A determination was made of the degree to which the four requirements of Gault were met in District I of the Utah Juvenile Court between July 1, 1967 and June 30, 1969. The requirements handed down in 1967 by the U. S. Supreme Court were as follows: (a) guarantee to the right of notice given to the juvenile himself and to his parents; (b) right to counsel, representation by counsel in juvenile delinquency proceedings; (c) right to confrontation and cross-examination by prosecuting witness; and (d) privilege against self-incrimination in juvenile delinquency proceedings.

The relationship of traditionalism (knowledge of traditional stories), teachers' evaluations of traits (skill, punctuality, security, leadership, use of English, and personal appearance), social relationships (manner of relating, friends--non-Indian or Indian, who do they talk to about problems, and marital status), and productive activity (amount of time spent in employment, school, and military) to existing attitudes toward reservation living, non-Indian way of life, and a combination of the two attitudes, attitudes toward life, was studied for the Navajo male 1964 graduates from Intermountain School by using simple correlation and other methods.

Several factors influence the social participation of rural migrants in urban structures according to previous studies: (1) origins, (2) education, (3) occupation, (4) auspices of migration, (5) age at migration, (6) length of residence, (7) previous migrations, (8) social mobility, (9) income, (10) geographic mobility, (11) community activities. These variables will be included in the research design of this present study.

Review of previous studies indicates that there have not been any studies conducted on the factors associated with urban church participation of former members of rural churches.
