A Case Study Of The 2nd Summer Debate Institute Sponsored By The University Of Nebraska At Omaha, James Lee Hullinger Aug 1970

A Case Study Of The 2nd Summer Debate Institute Sponsored By The University Of Nebraska At Omaha, James Lee Hullinger

Student Work

Perhaps at no time has a society been so concerned with communication and the development of communication skills at all levels as we are today in the United States. Many famous people has attributed much of their success in leadership positions to communication skills developed in a college forensics program. For example, V. I. Cheadle, the Chancellor of the University of California at Santa Barbara, wrote, “If I were to choose any single activity in school which contributed to my career, I would certainly choose debating.”

Appearance And Mode Of Perception In A Simulated Interview, Stephen Edward Markowitz

Student Work

This study dealt with the effects of appearance and mode of perception upon the interviewing process. Research to date has stressed the predictive validity of the interview and ignored the dynamics of the on-going process. The present study was a microanalytic investigation of some of the factors influencing the interviewer.

Television-Mediated Aggression And Its Effects On Children’S Level Of Aggressiveness, Thomas M. Ferguson Jul 1970

Television-Mediated Aggression And Its Effects On Children’S Level Of Aggressiveness, Thomas M. Ferguson

All Master's Theses

It was hypothesized that subjects viewing film-mediated aggressive models would perform more aggressive behaviors in the test situation, than either of the other two groups, despite the low similarity factor. Results failed to confirm this hypothesis. It was found that boys were more aggressive than girls across all treatment levels.

A Correlational Analysis Of Sme Non-Job Activities Of An Industrial Population, Joseph R. Nevotti Ii Jun 1970

A Correlational Analysis Of Sme Non-Job Activities Of An Industrial Population, Joseph R. Nevotti Ii

Student Work

Herzberg's Motivator-Hygiene Theory has had a significant impact on human motivation research; however, several factors related to the theory have been overlooked. The purposes of this thesis were to develop an objective instrument with which to measure job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction; to determine how an employee would react when his motivator and hygiene needs are frustrated; and to look at the relationship between job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction and certain personality, intellectual environmental factors.

Mmpi Characteristics Of Students Showing Conduct Infractions At Utah State University, Carl S. Hansen May 1970

Mmpi Characteristics Of Students Showing Conduct Infractions At Utah State University, Carl S. Hansen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A study of the personality characteristic as measured by the Minnesota Multiphasic personality Inventory (MMPI) was made of an experimental group of students brought before the Standards Committee at Utah State University for infractions against the school's code of conduct. It was then compared with personality characteristics of a control group representing the remaining student body.

The result was no significant difference between the two groups on any of the MMPI scales.

After checking the activities of the two groups, it was found that the experimental group was lower in grade point average than the general student body, but this …

Effects Of Nurturance On Incidental Imitative Behavior, Ronald Raymond Monti Jan 1970

Effects Of Nurturance On Incidental Imitative Behavior, Ronald Raymond Monti

All Master's Theses

The purpose of the present study was twofold. It was hypothesized that a prior nurturant interaction with an adult model (M) would significantly increase incidental imitation in a child subject (S) receiving this positive relationship over Ss who interacted with a non-nurturant M, or Ss who received no interaction with M. Secondly, the length of the experimental nurturant relationship was manipulated in an attempt to determine its importance in obtaining increased imitative behavior.

A Study Of Early Reasoning Skills In The Trainable Mentally Retarded : As Related To Piaget's Seriation Theory, Robert William Ginther Jan 1970

A Study Of Early Reasoning Skills In The Trainable Mentally Retarded : As Related To Piaget's Seriation Theory, Robert William Ginther

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In terms of Piaget's theory of cognitive development and the relationship he attributes between reasoning and the development of classification and seriation skills, the following questions arise: can early reasoning ability be enhanced through training? If IQ tests are accepted as measures of intellectual function, do they then contain a significant number of seriation type questions? If so, will the seriation test be an accepted measure of intellectual function?

The Effects Of Intradimensional Variability On Conceptual Rule Problems, Kay C. Vodarski Jan 1970

The Effects Of Intradimensional Variability On Conceptual Rule Problems, Kay C. Vodarski

All Master's Theses

Conceptual ability, which is acquired through a learning process, is of interest to the behavioral scientist. Investigation of task and subject related variables in concept learning should lead to a better understanding of the cognitive processes. Moreover, such knowledge would have implications for educators in their methods of instruction even though results from the laboratory sometimes appear quite remote in their practical application to classroom behavior. The present study was concerned only with the rule learning aspects of conceptual behavior.

The Effects Of Motivation Level And Task Difficulty On Performance On A Vigilance Task, Donald C. Johnston Jan 1970

The Effects Of Motivation Level And Task Difficulty On Performance On A Vigilance Task, Donald C. Johnston

All Master's Theses

Although many variables affecting vigilance behavior have been identified, there has not been substantial agreement on the importance of these variables as contributors either to performance decrements often found in laboratory research or to performance levels in industrial inspection tasks. Two variables of presumed importance are level of motivation and task difficulty. The purpose of the present experiment was to assess the main and interactive effects of these variables on performance on a task which approximated more closely an industrial inspection task than have the bulk of traditional vigilance studies.

The Use Of Actual And Imaginary Fear Stimuli In The Behavior Modification Of A Simple Fear With Covert Reinforcement., Jr. Flannery, Raymond Benedict Jan 1970

The Use Of Actual And Imaginary Fear Stimuli In The Behavior Modification Of A Simple Fear With Covert Reinforcement., Jr. Flannery, Raymond Benedict

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The present study was concerned with the actual versus imagined fear stimuli in the behavior modification of fear of laboratory rats by covert reinforcement. It was predicted that (a) both treatment groups would exhibit greater fear reduction than the control group for which no predictions were made; (b) both treatment groups would exhibit greater fear reduction than the control group; (c) that the treatment group presented with the actual fear stimulus would reveal greater reductions in fear than the treatment group presented with the fear stimulus in imagination; (d) that transfer of training would occur in a substantially altered environment. …
