In an effort to offer an effective preparation program for prospective teachers, the institution rrrust first analyze its present status--"What are we now doing?" Such an assessment, a point of reference, is necessary before speculations about modifications can be put into action. The problem undertaken in this study was to ascertain the status of the 1969 teacher education graduates from Central Washington State College in regard to their major field of preparation and subsequent placerrent within, or outside that field of preparation.

The Effects Of Free And Forced Choice With A Time Gradient And Monetary Incentive In A Serial Learning Task, Ernest Joseph Lucier Jr.

This experiment was designed to determine the effects of free and forced choice within time gradients of five and eight seconds using monetary incentive on a serial learning task. A series of nonsense symbols were successively presented to thirty-six subjects whose task was to learn the serial with the least number of exposures.

In the opinion of the investigator, the experiment reported reinforces the hypothesis that greater imagination and creative ability can be fostered in the nine-to-eleven year-old through giving primary consideration to the developmental needs of this age group when presenting a medium. Also that a systematically structured approach to the use of the medium facilitates the child's creative growth and makes progress an unavoidable issue.

The comparative effectiveness of two speech correction approaches was studied in the therapeutic situation (within the program and the setting of the public school). The Van Riper adult-directed auditory stimulation method, used by many speech therapists today, was compared with a self-directed and modified Backus and Beasley approach to sound correction. In September, 1968, the Board of Education of the Bellevue Public School System approved a new salary schedule for their teachers which represented a substantial increase (about 10-12%) for all staff positions.
