The Influence Of Trace Elements On Anemia, Yung-Fun Wang May 1970

The Influence Of Trace Elements On Anemia, Yung-Fun Wang

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The fact that anemias constitute an important problem of public health has been realized only comparatively recently. When field surveys made in different countries before and after World War II had collected a great deal of information on dietary habits, food consumption levels, and nutritional status , it became more apparent that mild, moderate, and even severe anemic states existed in different communities. As was to be expected, anemia occurred more frequently in the malnourished people in the developing countries and the vulnerable groups of the population were the most affected (FAO/WHO Report, 1966).

Differences And Similarities In Role Perception Among Practicing School Counselors, School Psychologists, And School Social Workers, Rodney G. Cox May 1970

Differences And Similarities In Role Perception Among Practicing School Counselors, School Psychologists, And School Social Workers, Rodney G. Cox

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Today there is much discussion about the functions of various school personnel specialists. Because of the rapid growth of these specialists—the counselor, the psychologists, and the social worker—many questions are being asked, such as: Should guidance workers be generalists or specialists? What certification requirements should be met? Should the three disciplines—counselors, psychologists, and social workers—work as a team or individually? Finally, should counselors, psychologists, and social workers teach as part of their function in the school?

An analysis of the extent of overlap between the functions of the three disciplines requires the consideration of professional preparation, ascribed roles, and primary …

Solutions Of The Problem Of Finding Confidence Intervals For The Two Normal Population With Unequal Variances, Ing-Haur Liu May 1970

Solutions Of The Problem Of Finding Confidence Intervals For The Two Normal Population With Unequal Variances, Ing-Haur Liu

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Comparison of the means of two normal populations is a simpler problem when the variance (if unknown) are assumed to be equal than it is when they are not equal. The main concern of this report is the latter case also called the Behrens [4] - Fisher [5] problem.

In this report the solutions proposed by Behrens-Fisher, Scheffe [10], Welch [12], Banerjee [3] and Hajek [8], will be described and compared. To this problem Scheffe proposed a solution which has the advantage that no special table is necessary for its use, since the variate has an exact "Student's t" distribution. …

Nonparametric Test Of Fit, Frena Nawabi May 1970

Nonparametric Test Of Fit, Frena Nawabi

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Most statistical methods require assumptions about the populations from which samples are taken. Usually these methods measure the parameters, such as variance, standard deviations, means, etc., of the respective populations. One example is the assumption that a given population can be approximated closely with a normal curve. Since these assumptions are not always valid, statisticians have developed several alternate techniques known as nonparametric tests. The models of such tests do not specify conditions about population parameters.

Certain assumptions, such as (1) observations are independent and (2) the variable being studied has underlying continuity, are associated with most nonparametric tests. However, …

Graduate Recital, Robert S. Frost

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The acquisition of new skills and the further development of previous skills has always been one of the ideas behind the graduate recital. Along with new skills come the knowledge and experience necessary to affect the individual's own performance and the performance of those whom he teaches . In music education it is difficult to teach that which one has not yet experienced or mastered and the graduate recital helps to fulfill the experience requirement and give new insights into understanding all aspects of music as a listener, performer, and teacher.

The graduate recital traditionally draws its literature from all …

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In any study of American historiography, Car.l Becker emerges as one of the more prominent historical philosophers. George H. Sabine suggests that interest in Becker's historical writing stems from three main characteristics. First, far more than most academic historians, he was a literary artist, using a very fine prose style which made enjoyable reading. Second, he had an unique understanding of the purposes which should guide and might set the standard of excellence in historical writing. Third, Becker had a broad and keen intellectual curiosity, enlightened by wit and irony and united with a deep moral conviction of the seriousness …

' When training is given without adequate planning based upon actual occupational needs it is likely to be ineffective. • In the period ahead, further occupational changes will take …

Infinite Abelian Groups, Joaquin Pascual May 1970

Infinite Abelian Groups, Joaquin Pascual

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

When the theory of groups was first introduced, the attention was on finite groups. Now, the infinite abelian groups have some into their own. the results obtained in infinite abelian groups are very interesting and penetrating in other branches of Mathematics. For example, every theorem that is stated in this paper may be generalized for modules over principal ideal domains and applied to the study of linear transformations.

This paper presents the most important results in infinite abelian groups following the exposition given by J. Rotman in his book, Theory of Groups: An Introduction. Also, some of the exercises given …

An Experiment In Orchestration: Prelude An Original Composition For Symphonic Band, Melvin Edvalson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

From ancient times to the present, music has been composed for instrumental combinations as well as for single instruments. The manner in which these combinations were utilized depended upon current compositional practices, especially those regarding form. In the Baroque Period instrumental ensembles were formed according to the composer's discretion. The tone color embodiment of a particular musical work was set more by the composer's choice of instruments to be included in the ensemble than in his use of instruments as independent tone color sources . The Baroque composer's use of instrumental color was in this way consistent with his use …

Hydro-Electric Power In Brigham City, Utah: Its Growth And Development, Reed Anderson Olsen May 1970

Hydro-Electric Power In Brigham City, Utah: Its Growth And Development, Reed Anderson Olsen

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

One of man's most useful servants is electrical power. Technological advances have made it the greatest source of industrial power we have in the world today. The evolution of electrical power paralleled the development of our great American economic system. Like the development of mechanization, the growth of power was a long, drawn-out process. Man power was replaced with water power; water power was replaced with team , electricity, oil and natural gas. Eventually these sources may be replaced with atomic power.

Although the steam engine was a vast improvement over water power, there continued a need for transmitting energy …

A Study Of An Unintentional Shutdown (Scram) Problem In The Operation Of The High Flux Isotope Reactor, Cheng Ping Wu May 1970

A Study Of An Unintentional Shutdown (Scram) Problem In The Operation Of The High Flux Isotope Reactor, Cheng Ping Wu

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory experiences occasional operating difficulties caused by temporary low voltage conditions on its main power feeder line. The low voltage causes the shutdown of one or more of the three primary coolant pumps. When two of these pumps are shut down, the capacity of the cooling system is reduced to the point where the reactor is scrammed due to a high inlet coolant temperature.

This study was made to determine the cause of the high inlet temperature when operating with one primary coolant pump and to suggest possible changes …

Bayesian Estimate Of System Reliability, Naresh Shah May 1970

Bayesian Estimate Of System Reliability, Naresh Shah

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

A Bayesian estimate of reliability for each component in the system of n-components, each exponentially distributed, is developed which utilizes the basic notion of loss in estimation theory. Here we assume that each component is independently distributed. In reliability estimation, the loss associated with overestimation is usually greater than the loss associated with underestimation; and hence loss function can be a very useful tool. The prior distribution and loss function of reliability considered in this paper are flexible to be compatible with other situations in which reliability estimates are required. When the loss function is symmetric and no prior information …
