Corn leafhopper, Dalbulus maidis (DeLong and Wolcott) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), is native to Central and South America, but invasive in the United States. This species is a threat to corn, Zea mays L., one of the main crops of economic importance in the US, because it is also a vector of three pathogens responsible for corn stunt diseases complex: corn stunt spiroplasma (CSS), maize bushy stunt phytoplasma (MBSP), and maize rayado fino virus (MRFV). In North America, the genus Lepidocyrtus Bourlet (Collembola: Entomobryidae) is represented by 18 species, but only three (L. floridensis Snider, L. millsi Snider, and L. pallidus Reuter) have been reported from Florida. We investigated species diversity in leaf litter samples from counties in the north-central and southern part of the state, as the reportedly low species diversity in Florida may be due to under-sampling. Our study showed that under natural conditions the rate and speed of postdiapause emergence by overwintering larvae of the endoparasitic wasp, Dinocampus coccinellae (Schrank) is enhanced when its ladybird beetle host Coleomegilla maculata (DeGeer) receives a nutritious (proteinaceous) diet during late winter and early spring. Living aphid prey provided during April and May yielded the fastest rates of D. coccinellae postdiapause development, followed by an artificial protein/carbohydrate diet and flowering (pollen-producing) heads of dandelion. D. coccinellae development was slowest when hosts received only sugar water or water alone. These results indicate that there is an interaction during late dormancy between …

The insect molting process is critical to growth and development and is regulated in part by the neuropeptides corazonin, eclosion hormone, and α and β bursicon. We found messages in a synganglion transcriptome from adult, female American dog ticks, Dermacentor variabilis (that do not molt), with a high similarity to the larval insect neuropeptides that control molting. The phylogenetic analysis of the tick putative neuropeptides compared to other arthropods is discussed in detail. The status of Nematodes pavidus Horn (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae), in relation to Nematodes punctatus LeConte and Nematodes teres Horn is being questioned after Muona (2000) revised the family in the Nearctic region. Investigations into the status of N. pavidus included explorations of the histories among these three species and examining images of the types through the Museum of Comparative Zoology’s website. It has been confirmed that Muona erred by synonymizing N. pavidus with N. teres before transferring both N. punctatus and N. teres to Dromaeolus Kiesenwetter. Hemipeplus quadricollis Pollock, 1999 (Coleoptera: Mycteridae: Hemipeplinae), was originally described from Rondonia State, Brazil, as its type locality, with 10 paratypes: eight from Brazil (Rondonia State) and two from Peru (Madre de Dios and Loreto departments). However, one of the paratypes from Peru (Madre de Dios) was later identified as a cryptic species, Hemipeplus pseudoquadricollis KC and Pollock, 2025. This raises questions about the single remaining paratype from Peru—whether the species truly occurs in Peru—and how many of the paratypes of H. quadricollis are actually H. quadricollis. (Fagaceae) in California is described and illustrated based on its puparium, adults, and nymphs. Agricultural expansion threatens biodiversity, but integrating insectivorous birds into vineyard ecosystems may support both conservation and ecosystem services. We tested how nest boxes and habitat composition influence avian and arthropod communities in Napa Valley vineyards using a before-after, control-impact experiment across 20 sites. During the 2023-2024 breeding seasons we conducted avian point counts, sampled key pest and beneficial arthropods, and collected fecal samples from adult and nestling tree swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) and western bluebirds (Sialia mexicana) to detect vineyard pest DNA. The Dectes stem borer (Dectes texanus LeConte, Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) has emerged as an increasingly significant pest of soybean (Glycine max) in South Dakota. Although historically considered a minor concern, rising populations of this insect have led to significant preharvest lodging and subsequent yield loss in affected fields. The Dectes stem borer's larval feeding within the soybean stem interferes with nutrient flow, and as the season progresses, this internal feeding weakens stem integrity, amplifying lodging risks and causing considerable challenges for farmers and researchers. Integrated pest management uses a variety of tools coupled with historical, current, and projected information for economical pest protection of crops and other resources while accounting for risk to humans and the environment. Following the 1972 US Federal IPM Policy, funding for integrated pest management programming has continued for 50+ years. However, multifaceted changes during this time have significantly affected state-level integrated pest management infrastructure, prompting a comprehensive survey to assess conditions, limitations, and growth potential of US integrated pest management programs. (Rubiaceae) en San José, Jobompiche, Petén, Guatemala. Esta nueva especie es incluida en el grupo abnormis del género Tetralicia Harrison. Se ilustran con fotografías las estructuras morfológicas del pupario, se discute la relación con especies cercanas y se proporciona una clave para la identificación de los grupos y especies del grupo abnormis.

Lecanium vaccinii macrocarpum Goethe, 1884 (Hemiptera: Coccidae) is a subspecies of which the original description is inconsistent with its current taxonomic placement, and its recorded synonymy with other species is questionable. Several Nearctic spider wasp genera and subgenera in the subfamily Pompilinae (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae) in the arid western United States and northern Mexico are characteristically blue, violet, or purple in color: Aporus Spinola; Plectraporus Bradley; Chelaporus Bradley; Psorthaspis Banks; Chalcochares Banks; Evagetes Lepeletier; and Allochares Banks. Other genera and subgenera of Pompilinae in western United States and northern Mexico have one or more bluish or violaceous species: Episyron Schiødte; Notiochares Banks; Pompilinus Ashmead; Anoplius Dufour; Hesperopompilus Evans; Ammosphex Wilcke; and Arachnospila Kincaid. Medicolegal forensic entomology uses insect colonization of remains to estimate minimum post-mortem intervals (mPMI). Blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) are among the earliest colonizers, yet their nocturnal activity remains poorly understood. This study aimed to determine whether blow flies are active at night and whether artificial light influences their behavior. Using baited bottle traps in both artificially lit and unlit environments near Georgia Southern University, flies were collected over two trials in fall 2024. Of the 1,843 blow flies collected, only six were captured at night (0.003%), suggesting minimal nocturnal activity. Lucilia coeruleiviridis preferred unlit environments.
