The Restech Connections Cd Project: A Case Study On The Social Construction Of Risk, Jason Koch, Jack T. Marchewka

Communications of the IIMA

Risk management is an important component in understanding and managing information technology (IT) projects. The traditional view of risk management focuses on a three-stage process: identifying risk, assessing risk, and developing a strategy for dealing with each risk. This, unfortunately, may give project stakeholders a false sense of security. Although the application of risk management philosophies, techniques, tools, and methods to managing IT projects is not new, the idea of viewing risk as a social construction outlines a new paradigm for understanding and managing risk. Since the idea of a social construction view of risk has been introduced only recently, …

Mining User's Preference Information Through System Log Toward A Personalized Erp System, Zhang Qun, Shoulin Lai, Shufen Dai, Xuedong Gao, Tieke Li

Communications of the IIMA

This paper discusses how to mine the user's preference information through the system log of the ERP system. Our findings support that the user's preference degree is positively correlated with the usage frequency and negatively correlated with the latest waiting time. With a derived function of user's preference degree, it can be applied to guide the automatic readjustments to the system interface and content accordingly. Taking a contract management subsystem as an example, the paper shows how to mine the system log toward a intelligent personalized ERP system.

Lying About Private Information: An Ethical Justification, Sabah S. Al-Fedaghi Jan 2015

Lying About Private Information: An Ethical Justification, Sabah S. Al-Fedaghi

Communications of the IIMA

Lying motivated by a fear of misusing private information is a key issue in ethics with many important applications in law, business, politics, and psychology. In this paper, lying is separated according to two types of assertions: lying about non-private information and lying about private information. This distinction is applied to the case of the 'known murderer' in the context of Kant's categorical imperative. The main result of the paper is narrowing the ethical dilemma to a choice between 'a zero private information society' and 'an alTlying-about-private-information society'. We claim that privacy as a universal requirement supports lying about private …

Communications of the IIMA

An increasing number of studies into the adoption behaviour of Information systems (IS) have focused on small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These past studies provide an understanding of the contextual factors offering a simple dichotomous measure such as adopters and non-adopters rather than the manner of usage (from adoption to utilisation). This study introduces the construct of enacted capabilities and examines the enacted capabilities that activate and stimulate SMEs to use an IS to it fullest potential. The construct is derived from the resource-based view of the firm and allows the integration of the technology acceptance model with diffusion of …
