The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between type of sports team and player convicted of a crime involving bodily harm off the playing field in the National Basketball League (NBA) and National Football League (NFL). This research was beneficial to the academic community because it further developed which professional sport participants were more engaged in violent acts out of the boundaries of their respective sports. This paper examines whether teams with winning records that employ analytic decision makers see a higher increase in win percentage after in-season player acquisitions versus teams that employ non-analytic decision makers. This was accomplished through analyzing the in-season player acquisition data from the MLB and NBA over the last four completed seasons through descriptive and inferential statistics. There was not a significant difference between the two groups in average win percentage after total acquisitions, trades, or signings. Using inferential tests we found no statistical significance between the type of decision maker, and the difference in win percentage after an acquisition.

Creative Activity and Research Day - CARD

This research uses a linear regression model to investigate the relationship between prospective NFL running backs’ NCAA FBS football statistics, NFL Combine measureables, and realized performance in the NFL as evaluated by Pro Football Focus. We observe 435 player-seasons from 2007-2014. The model suggests that collegiate conference affiliation, collegiate touchdowns, and NFL team passing strength are positively associated with NFL running back performance at statistically significant levels. Conference affiliation has the most substantial effect. NFL talent evaluators must appreciate that context is king when evaluating potential, and that pure stats are only a small piece of the puzzle.

Often cited by proponents as a productive tool for preserving the cultural and physical elements of the American built environment, historic districts are alternatively branded as burdensome and regressive to future development by critics. In order to provide a quantitative assessment of the economic impact of historic districts, this project compares property values from 1990, 2000 and 2010 in both a historically designated and a non- designated neighborhood in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Through tedious sampling techniques and statistical analysis, the results of the project indicated a link between historic districts and higher property values.

Technology's integration into the Emergency Medical Field has been lifesaving. Quicker response time, treatment, and transport to the hospital have been possible through the help of new technology. Telemedicine is not new, but the way it is communicated is evolving. What is unique about using Google Glass for EMS is it would not restrict the user's mobility or function, which is incredibly important for First Responders who might need two hands to do compressions for CPR. My Capstone Project will give First Responders, such as Paramedics and EMTs, an extra set of hands through utilizing Google Glass.

“Living on Highways” is a selection comprised of ten poems from my honors thesis. The poems focus on nature and views of human reality in the context of nature, two subjects that require attention to sustainability. Performance Study Of A Mems Low-Noise Sound Pressure Gradient Microphone Under An Ac Bias, Jonathan Michelson

An AC bias was introduced into microelectromechanical system (MEMS) low-noise sound pressure gradient microphone by Miles, Cui, Su and Hormentcovschi (2014), and its implications for the device's noise performance and directivity readings are discussed. The schematic involved demodulation of the microphone output with external circuitry, and subsequent computer software analysis of the microphone and circuitry outputs. Although insights into noise improvement were frustrated due to subpar noisy components used in the demodulation circuitry, the simultaneous measuring of the microphone's varying directivity patterns was shown to be achievable with this AC bias scheme.

Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) is a transparent amorphous oxide semiconductor (TAOS) that has shown promise as transparent thin film transistors (TTFTs) in various display applications. Within a-IGZO films, states can form in the band gap that hinder TTFT performance. In order to elucidate the origin of these states, we examined the formation of the subgap states for a-IGZO thin films with various compositions. We observed a positive correlation between the subgap formation and the percentage of oxygen ruling out oxygen deficiencies as a factor in the formation of subgap states. The Chinese Communist party is the biggest political party in the world, and members are often motivated to join for economic reasons. The Federal Employment Agency is the largest provider of labor market services in Germany, with over 700 agencies, an institute for employment research, international placement services, a university, leadership academy, and family benefits office, among other subdivisions. The agency is publicly-funded and has several integral responsibilities that are outlined in my poster.
