An Investigation Into The Management Of Branding In Irish Artisan Food Businesses, Daniel David Hickey Jan 2019

An Investigation Into The Management Of Branding In Irish Artisan Food Businesses, Daniel David Hickey

Theses

A consumer’s lifestyle is busier now then in the past and is moving towards products that reduce preparation and cooking times (Bia, 2015). The demand for value added convenience products has created opportunity for the Artisan food sector. This has lead to the expansion of food Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in Ireland. There were 235 specialty food producers in Ireland in 2018, a 2.7% increase on the previous year. SME’s are growing in popularity among consumers but there is very little research been completed into Irish SME’s. A 2016 study by Kennedy and Wright identified that the area is scant …

Developing A Model Of Post Incubation Support For New And Growing Ventures, Miriam Adair Jan 2019

Developing A Model Of Post Incubation Support For New And Growing Ventures, Miriam Adair

Theses

Business incubators offer physical and virtual services for their new and growing start up clients. In Ireland, once companies exit an incubator, they do not have access to services similar to an incubator. In other countries there are post incubation services available.

There is a limited literature on post incubation in Ireland, however there is literature focusing on different programmes available to companies once they have left an incubator.

This thesis explores the post incubation support needs of new' and growing ventures.

Specifically, the research focused on three primary objectives:

1. To gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs …

An Investigation Of The Impact Of Nursing Support And The Financial Implications Associated With Cpap Adherence, Christine Brunnick Jan 2019

An Investigation Of The Impact Of Nursing Support And The Financial Implications Associated With Cpap Adherence, Christine Brunnick

Theses

The prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is increasing. As the prevalence of OSA increases, as does the need for the condition to be treated effectively to reduce several risk factors which increase both mortality and morbidity rates. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy is easily recognised as the most effective treatment for OSA. Despite the recognised benefits of CPAP therapy, adherence rates reported worldwide remain suboptimal. A transitional change within the Irish healthcare system means that private medical device companies will provide CPAP devices in specific contractual regions throughout Ireland. This change presents challenges and opportunities for policymakers. This …

Political Connectedness, Firm Performance And Corporate Risk Taking: Are Emerging Markets Different?, Augustine Tarkom Jan 2019

Political Connectedness, Firm Performance And Corporate Risk Taking: Are Emerging Markets Different?, Augustine Tarkom

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Existing literature exploring the effect of politically connected firms on their performance and risk-taking seems to offer decisive results for the emerging and the developed market. However, from professionals and anecdotal evidence, both markets do not exhibit similar characteristics. Considering these characteristics, instability of the government, lack thereof of adequate governance structure, I revisit the topic. This study comprises 27 advanced and 20 emerging economies for the years 1992 through 2016. I find that sound political environment drives risk-taking in advanced markets, while political connections drive corporate risk-taking in emerging markets. I also find that political institutions and political connections …

Diversification And Its Implications For South Dakota Farmers’ Identity As Farmers: Wind Farm Diversification As A Case Study, Abdelrahim Abulbasher Jan 2019

Diversification And Its Implications For South Dakota Farmers’ Identity As Farmers: Wind Farm Diversification As A Case Study, Abdelrahim Abulbasher

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Studies have been conducted in the last three decades to examine the impact of the ongoing economic changes that encourage farmers to adopt nonconventional practices (such as crop diversification, on-farm recreation, and wind farming) to diversify their income. Limited research, however, has been conducted to examine the impact of on farm diversification practices on farmers’ identity as farmers (growers of food, feed, and fiber) including their role, self-conception, and family history/legacy. Using social identity and socio-ecological systems theories, this study seeks to understand how farmers construct their identity, the symbolic meanings they attach to their daily practices, and the influence …

The Impact Of Alcohol Consumption On Academic Success And Athletic Identity In Collegiate Student-Athletes, Zoe E. Arnold Jan 2019

The Impact Of Alcohol Consumption On Academic Success And Athletic Identity In Collegiate Student-Athletes, Zoe E. Arnold

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Upon entering college in the United States, students are exposed to alcohol and, relatedly, the potentially dangerous experiences and effects that come with consuming alcohol. This is especially true for collegiate student-athletes, who have been found to have the highest consumption rate among student groups on campus. The purpose of the study was to understand the relationship between how student-athletes at a focus university, a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, experience alcohol consumption, how their consumption affects their academic grade point average (GPA), and how athletic identity plays a role in their experiences. While the research …

Comparative Assessment Of The Flow State Scale And The Work-Related Flow Inventory: A Relative Weights Analysis, Samantha Gildemeister Jan 2019

Comparative Assessment Of The Flow State Scale And The Work-Related Flow Inventory: A Relative Weights Analysis, Samantha Gildemeister

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Flow experiences, or optimal experiences of intense concentration and enjoyment, were originally measured using qualitative measures. More recently, quantitative measures such as the Flow State Scale (FSS) and the Work-Related Flow Inventory (WOLF) allowed for structural assessment of the construct, but the vague definition of flow led to variability in the foundation of the measurement. As such, this study aimed to investigate the extent of overlap between the FSS and the WOLF at the factor level in a sample of working adults. Specifically, we investigated the relation between the nine FSS factors and the three WOLF factors using confirmatory factor …

Instrumenty Prawne Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej Wpływające Na Konkurencyjność Polskiego Rolnictwa, Agata Niewiadomska

Monografie/Monographs

Zagadnienia konkurencyjności rolnictwa należą do szczególnie złożonych z uwagi na konieczność stałego równoważenia z jednej strony potrzeb ochrony i wsparcia rolnictwa, kształtowania parytetu dochodów uzyskiwanych przez producentów rolnych oraz wynagrodzenia za społecznie oczekiwanie świadczenie usług i dóbr publicznych (zwłaszcza prośrodowiskowych i prospołecznych), a z drugiej − zachowania fundamentalnych zasad i wolności gospodarczych, zwłaszcza wolnej konkurencji. Problemy stąd wynikające Autorka dostrzegła i podjęła całkiem udaną próbę ich przedstawienia, opracowania i oceny, co wymagało wiedzy znacznie wykraczającej poza stricte prawniczą.

Innovation In Economic Education, Mariam T. Abdelhamid Jan 2019

Innovation In Economic Education, Mariam T. Abdelhamid

Information Technology & Decision Sciences Faculty Publications

(First paragraph) Economic integration in the K-16 space is one facet of the American education system that depicts inadequacy yet potential. Mary Beth Henning alongside several educational specialists and economists illustrate how economics can be taught in a multidisciplinary manner through the mandated disciplines, such as math, reading, and history. The authors of this book demonstrate the need for students to develop an economic way of thinking through three themes focusing on: interdisciplinary integration of economics, blended learning, and economic educator preparation. I would highly recommend this book to K-16 educators looking to integrate economics into core academic subjects through …

The Role Of Upward Influence In Organizational Politics: A Discussion On The Effectiveness Of Single And Combined Influence Tactics In An Upward Direction, Sophia Russell

Scripps Senior Theses

As part of organizational politics, influence allows employees to impact the attitudes and behaviors of peers, supervisors, and subordinates. Even though there are a variety of influence tactics, this thesis examines the few tactics used individually and in combination in an upward direction. This thesis adds to upward influence literature by discussing not only effective upward tactics, but also strategies found in unsuccessful attempts, providing insights for employees. The individual influence tactics discussed to be most successful are rational persuasion, consultation, and ingratiation, while exchange tactics are likely to lead to a failed influence attempt. The combined influence tactics found …

Inside The Black Box Of Dictionary Building For Text Analytics: A Design Science Approach, Qi Deng, Michael J. Hine, Shaobo Ji, Sujit Sur

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The purpose of this paper is to develop and demonstrate a dictionary building process model for text analytics projects following the design science methodology. Using inductive consensus-building, we examined prior research to develop an initial process model. The model is subsequently demonstrated and validated by using data to develop an environmental sustainability dictionary for the IT industry. To our knowledge, this is an initial attempt to provide a normalized dictionary building process for text analytics projects. The resulting process model can provide a road map for researchers who want to use automated approaches to text analysis but are currently prevented …

Pay Gaps Between Management And Workers: Causes And Consequences, Center For Executive Succession

Research Briefs

Short-term focused investors drive higher ELT-to-employee pay gaps, while longer time horizon investors promote smaller ELT-to-employee pay gaps. • Firms that increase their pay gaps have better performance in the short term (within a year). • Firms that increase their pay gaps have less favorable performance growth over the following 5 years.

Sustainable Wealth Creation: Applying Instrumental Stakeholder Theory To The Improvement Of Social Welfare, Thomas M. Jones, Jeffrey S. Harrison Jan 2019

Sustainable Wealth Creation: Applying Instrumental Stakeholder Theory To The Improvement Of Social Welfare, Thomas M. Jones, Jeffrey S. Harrison

Management Faculty Publications

This chapter briefly reviews core ideas and research results in the existing instrumental stakeholder theory (IST) literature and then applies the IST concept to the simultaneous pursuit of two objectives—advancing social welfare, the presumed goal of morally legitimate social systems in general, and preserving the key elements of shareholder wealth enhancement—the traditional goal of the corporation. In so doing, we expand the range of ethical approaches to IST beyond deontological principles (e.g., treat stakeholders fairly; be trustworthy in dealing with stakeholders) present in extant versions of IST, to a consequentialist focus (i.e., a utilitarian concern for “the greatest good for …

Social Justice, Numeracy, And Teaching Statistics At A Community College, Edward Volchok Jan 2019

Social Justice, Numeracy, And Teaching Statistics At A Community College, Edward Volchok

Numeracy

The author of this article reflects on the issues of justice, democracy, and numeracy. As one who has taught statistics in a community college for over 12 years, spent 28 years as a Marketing Consultant, and holds a PhD in political science, the author’s thesis is that while an advanced, democratic society can only be just with a numerate citizenry, fostering numeracy is not easy. In this article the author describes the daunting tasks of trying to define what justice is and reviews activities from his statistics class that help students develop their numeracy.

An Insight To Project Manager Personality Traits Improving Team Project Outcomes, Thomas G. Henkel, Gordon Haley, Debra T. Bourdeau, James Marion

Publications

Individual personality assessments tools have a strong following among Fortune 100 companies.[1] Besides being used for hiring purposes, individual personality assessment tools give project managers insight into personality and aspirations, as well as how they process and organize information, make decisions, and interact with team members and other stakeholders. The aim of this research study was to explore what personality traits project managers need to lead a project team effectively. To accomplish this, we employed the Big Five Personality® and the 1/11 Myers-Briggs (MBTI®) personality assessments to identify favorable personality traits and characteristics when managing projects.

Intangible Capital, Q Theory Of Investment And Measurement Of Profitability, Kunyamas Nithipaisal Jan 2019

Intangible Capital, Q Theory Of Investment And Measurement Of Profitability, Kunyamas Nithipaisal

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Contribution of intangible capital has been a notable factor of today’s economy. However, previous literatures mainly focus on outcomes of physical investment through classical theory of investment and financial ratios, so this paper aims to explain effects of intangible capital in two major points. Firstly, new Tobin’s q proxy, which includes intangible capital, is reexamined regarding its explanation of total investment; new Tobin’s q, thus, explains investment opportunities better in firms and years with greater intangible capital. Secondly, financial ratios are rearranged by taking intangible capital into consideration. As a result, firms with more intangible capital do not generate higher …
