The Social Media Machines: An Investigation Of The Effect Of Trust Moderated By Disinformation On Users’ Decision-Making Process, Zulma Valedon Westney

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

Social media networking sites (SMNS) have become a popular communications medium where users share information, knowledge, and persuasion. In less than two decades, social media's (SM) dominance as a communication medium can't be disputed, for good or evil. Combined with the newly found immediacy and pervasiveness, these SM applications' persuasive power are useful weapons for organizations, angry customers, employees, actors, and activists bent on attacking or hacking other individuals, institutions, or systems. Consequently, SM has become the preferred default mechanism of news sources; however, users are unsure if the information gathered is true or false. According to the literature, SMNS …

Faculty Publications By Year

Evidence of the tremendous rise in the significance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing is coming from all quarters. Fund flows into ESG investment vehicles are growing at a sustained and sometimes exponential pace. Fund complexes are rushing to design products, creating and rebranding scores of mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs), including lower-cost indexed options. Industry leaders, critics, and commentators are all heralding the sea change as a shift in investing - and corporate governance - to more broadly consider environmental and social factors.

This Article provides vital context for this conversation. Its descriptive account of the …

The Moderating Role Of Personality On Person-Organization Fit And Turnover, Jane Park Jan 2020

The Moderating Role Of Personality On Person-Organization Fit And Turnover, Jane Park

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Two studies were conducted to investigate whether personality traits serve as boundary conditions of the person-organization fit and turnover relationship, and whether continuous commitment may help explain why personality moderates the relationship between person-organization fit and turnover. The first study examines the effect of extraversion, neuroticism, and conscientiousness on the relationship between person-organization fit and turnover. The sample consisted of 1,251 office managers at a large, national organization. The second study follows up on the first study and examines the same relationships. In addition, the second study includes the effect of continuous commitment on the relationship between person-organization fit and …

Families Belong Together: The Path To Family Sanctity In Public Housing, Mckayla Stokes Jan 2020

Families Belong Together: The Path To Family Sanctity In Public Housing, Mckayla Stokes

Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy

In its 2015 landmark civil rights decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court finally held that the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the United States Constitution guarantee same-sex couples’ marital equality. The Court’s unprecedented declaration that the right to marry is a fundamental right under the Due Process Clause strengthened married couples’ right to privacy because it subjects government actions infringing on marital unions to heightened scrutiny. The Supreme Court has the option to minimize the impact of Obergefell by interpreting the right to marriage very narrowly—as only encompassing the right to enter into a state-recognized union …

Employee Overqualification And Manager Job Insecurity: Implications For Employee Career Outcomes, Berrin Erdogan, Zahide Karakitapoğlu‐Aygün, David Ellis Caughlin, Talya N. Bauer, Lale Gumusluoglu Jan 2020

Employee Overqualification And Manager Job Insecurity: Implications For Employee Career Outcomes, Berrin Erdogan, Zahide Karakitapoğlu‐Aygün, David Ellis Caughlin, Talya N. Bauer, Lale Gumusluoglu

Business Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this study, we propose that manager job insecurity will moderate the nature of the relationship between perceived overqualification and employee career-related outcomes (career satisfaction, promotability ratings, and voluntary turnover). We tested our hypotheses using a sample of 124 employees and 54 managers working in a large holding company in Ankara, Turkey, collected across five time periods. The results suggested that average perceived overqualification was more strongly, and negatively, related to career satisfaction of employees when managers reported higher job insecurity. Furthermore, employee perceived overqualification was positively related to voluntary turnover when manager job insecurity was high. No direct or …

Early Termination Of Small Loans In The Multifamily Mortgage Market, Anthony Pennington-Cross, Brent C. Smith Jan 2020

Early Termination Of Small Loans In The Multifamily Mortgage Market, Anthony Pennington-Cross, Brent C. Smith

Finance Faculty Research and Publications

This article uses micro‐level data on small (as defined by Fannie Mae) multifamily loans in the Fannie Mae loan portfolio to examine prepayment and default performance. The results document the importance of equity, as measured by the loan‐to‐value ratio, and contemporaneous property operating income relative to debt service obligations, as measured by the debt‐to‐income ratio. Our results indicate that the expiration of prepayment penalties and yield maintenance provisions lead to large spikes in prepayment and default. The results also illustrate that multifamily loans, as they are not fully amortized, also have a substantial risk of both extension and default at …

Understanding Value And Motivation: Analysis Of Alumni From A Us Undergraduate Business Degree, Pamela Bozeman, Daniel W. Eadens Jan 2020

Understanding Value And Motivation: Analysis Of Alumni From A Us Undergraduate Business Degree, Pamela Bozeman, Daniel W. Eadens

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

As young people are seeking degrees that will help them with employment and as universities seek ways to increase enrollment and retention, the emphasis of the value of higher education has emerged as an important aspect in achieving these goals. The focus of this particular study, where a paucity currently exists, was to examine the concepts of value in relation to undergraduate business education. A main aim of this study was to identify values (beyond economic), based on time since graduation, and the motivating factors that help to define those values. One of the key trends this study revealed was …

The Impact Of Buyer Needs On Perceived Trade Show Effectiveness, Rj Fryan Jan 2020

The Impact Of Buyer Needs On Perceived Trade Show Effectiveness, Rj Fryan

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

The personal needs of professionals within the steel industry have the potential to influence sales and marketing activities. In a business-to-business setting, trade shows stand out as industry-accepted sales and marketing activities. While previous research has explored trade show strategies by examining various aspects of operational functions, a gap exists in the literature surrounding the attendees and their needs. Using three of Maslow’s needs classifications, this study seeks to explore the relationship between trade show attendees’ needs and their perceptions of trade show effectiveness and post-show purchase intention.

Self-Determination Theory And Pharmaceutical Salespeople: Does Motivational Orientation Of U.S.-Based Pharmaceutical Salespeople Influence Sales Performance?, Brandon Gilbert Jan 2020

Self-Determination Theory And Pharmaceutical Salespeople: Does Motivational Orientation Of U.S.-Based Pharmaceutical Salespeople Influence Sales Performance?, Brandon Gilbert

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Utilizing self-determination theory as the foundational theory for this research, this study analyzes the potential relationship that exists between a U.S.-Based Pharmaceutical salesperson’s motivational orientation (intrinsic or extrinsic) and their sales performance. Sales performance in this study is defined by sales awards (President’s Club, sales rankings, 100% to goal, etc.). To build a foundation of understanding of motivational theory, various theories in addition to self-determination theory are explored in the literature review. The four motivational categories explored are: a) hedonic motivational theories, b) cognitive motivational theories, c) personal growth or actualization motivation theories, and d) self-determination theory. Self-determination theory is …

Sticker Price Elasticity As Predictor Of Tuition Reset Success: A Quantitative Approach, Robert F. Van Cleef Jan 2020

Sticker Price Elasticity As Predictor Of Tuition Reset Success: A Quantitative Approach, Robert F. Van Cleef

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Few quantitative studies exist on tuition outcomes resets despite increasing frequency and interest among industry practitioners. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between sticker price elasticity and changes in first-year student enrollment, net tuition and fee revenue from first-year students, percent of first-year students who are Pell-eligible, and changes in transfer student enrollment using multivariate logistic and linear regression models. The independent variable is the sticker price elasticity of demand from two years preceding the announcement of a reset.

This study contributes to the literature by adding to evidence regarding the signaling role of sticker price …

Building The High-Performing Executive Leadership Team: Results Of The 2020 Hr@Moore Survey Of Chief Human Resources Officers, Patrick M. Wright, Donald J. Schepker, Anthony J. Nyberg, Spenser Essman, Kenneth R. Carrig

Reports

Over the past two years researchers in the Center for Executive Succession have conducted interviews with CEOs, former CEOs, board members, and CHROs regarding how they build their executive leadership teams (ELT) and accelerate those teams to become high-performing. In addition, the 2020 HR@Moore Survey of CHROs assessed a number of relevant characteristics of the CEO and the ELT. This report provides a summary of this multi-method research stream. First, the interviews reveal that CEOs must first build a team whose skill sets match the needs of the strategy and whose motivations prioritize the outcomes of the organization and the …

Virtual Board Meetings: Reverberations Resulting From Covid-19, Anthony J. Nyberg, Donald J. Schepker

Reports

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven boards to meeting virtually. Consequently, to better understand the challenges of virtual board meetings, we conducted semi-structured interviews with eight board members. These directors had an average of 14 years of board experience while serving on 27 boards of large, publicly traded, multinational organizations. The directors offered highly consistent responses. Interviews were supplemented with a survey administered to 22 directors that provided support for the core themes identified in the interviews.

Building Diversity Into The Talent Pipeline For Senior Operating Roles: Results Of The 2020 Hr@Moore Survey Of Chief Hr Officers, Patrick M. Wright, Anthony J. Nyberg, Donald J. Schepker, Kenneth R. Carrig, Spenser Essman Jan 2020

Building Diversity Into The Talent Pipeline For Senior Operating Roles: Results Of The 2020 Hr@Moore Survey Of Chief Hr Officers, Patrick M. Wright, Anthony J. Nyberg, Donald J. Schepker, Kenneth R. Carrig, Spenser Essman

Reports

Organizations seek to build diverse pipelines of talent comprised of individuals who can rise to attain senior operating roles (i.e., positions running large businesses within the corporation.) The 2020 HR@Moore Survey of Chief HR Officers sought to assess the level of diversity in terms of women and racial minorities in these pipelines, identify the obstacles to increasing the number of diverse candidates and strategies for successfully building diversity in these pipelines. Our results show a lack of diversity in these pipelines with 60% white males, 22% white females and no more than 5% in any other sex/race categories. CHROs primarily …

The Impact Of The Covid-19 Crisis On Executive Succession: Results Of The 2020 Hr@Moore Survey Of Chief Hr Officers, Patrick M. Wright, Donald J. Schepker, Anthony J. Nyberg, Spenser Essman Jan 2020

The Impact Of The Covid-19 Crisis On Executive Succession: Results Of The 2020 Hr@Moore Survey Of Chief Hr Officers, Patrick M. Wright, Donald J. Schepker, Anthony J. Nyberg, Spenser Essman

Reports

The COVID crisis impacted just about every aspect of how firms do business. We have explored through Zoom meetings and a survey of Chief HR Officers how the crisis has impacted a variety of components of executive succession. We find that the crisis caused many firms to develop business continuity plans separate from their ongoing and emergency succession plans. Going through this process may encourage firms to look more broadly and deeply into the people and roles in their ongoing succession processes. The crisis also revealed more positive than negative characteristics in their leaders. CHROs noted that the crisis has …

Ceo Characteristics And Stakeholder Strategy, Center For Executive Succession Jan 2020

Ceo Characteristics And Stakeholder Strategy, Center For Executive Succession

Research Briefs

Differences in stakeholder strategy across companies are related to CEOs’ focus on promotion (how things could be) versus prevention (how things should be) • Promotion-focused CEOs engage in more socially focused initiatives. Prevention-focused CEOs engage in more governance focused initiatives and are more open to governance-based activism. • CEO promotion and prevention focus were related to identified strengths in these areas but did not reliably reduce the number of areas of concern.

Ceo Personality And Market Perceptions, Center For Executive Succession Jan 2020

Ceo Personality And Market Perceptions, Center For Executive Succession

The Impact Of Training And Development On Employees In The Northeast Region Of Florida State Government: An Evaluation Of The Northeast Region Professional Development Training Program, Sandy Beaumont Jan 2020

The Impact Of Training And Development On Employees In The Northeast Region Of Florida State Government: An Evaluation Of The Northeast Region Professional Development Training Program, Sandy Beaumont

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

Critical positions in state government are oftentimes understaffed. Researches have studied the factors that lead to staff shortage such as low salary, high caseloads, and a stressful environment. Therefore, it is challenging to keep those positions filled at maximum capacity. In state government, employees are the organization’s human capital requiring investment to retain a quality workforce. Investment of training and professional development in addition to training of normal work duties are vital to the endurance of employees. Government seeks for ways to improve its workforce and to obtain long-term quality employees without salaries and other financial incentives that are comparable …

Inducing Compliance With Post-Market Studies For Drugs Under Fda’S Accelerated Approval Pathway, Liang Xu, Hui Zhao, Nicholas C. Petruzzi Jan 2020

Inducing Compliance With Post-Market Studies For Drugs Under Fda’S Accelerated Approval Pathway, Liang Xu, Hui Zhao, Nicholas C. Petruzzi

Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics: Faculty Publications

Problem definition: In 1992, FDA instituted the accelerated approval pathway (AP) to allow promising drugs to enter the market based on limited evidence of efficacy, thereby permitting manufacturers to verify true clinical benefits through post-market studies. However, most postmarket studies have not been completed as promised. We address this non-compliance problem.

Academic/Practical Relevance: The prevalence of this non-compliance problem poses considerable public health risk, thus compromising the original purpose of a well-intentioned AP initiative. We provide an internally consistent and implementable solution to the problem through a comprehensive analysis of the myriad complicating factors and tradeoffs facing FDA.

Methodology: We …
