University student volunteering is prevalent in Western countries, but has rarely been critically evaluated by researchers. Little is known about the different ways in which student volunteer programmes are organised. Using a matrix constructed from the publicly available websites of all Australian universities, and 60 interviews with key stakeholders at six universities, this paper identifies nine different models of student volunteer programmes. The models show the different ways in which universities, faculty and students are involved in organising student volunteer programmes. Number or license plate recognition has become an essential technology for traffic and security applications. Providing access control at any organization or academic institution improves the level of security. However, providing security personnel to manually control the access of vehicles at an academic institution is costly, time-consuming, and to a limited extent, error prone. This study investigated the use of an automated vehicle tracking system, incorporating experimental computer vision techniques for license plate recognition that runs in real-time to provide access control for vehicles and provide increased security for an academic institution. The Recursive Relationship Between Abusive Supervision And Service Performance, Cass Shum

Purpose – Drawing upon the conservation of resources theory, this study investigates the recursive relationship between abusive supervision and service performance and the moderating role of coworker support in this recursive relationship. Design/methodology/approach – This study tests the model using moderated cross-lagged analysis with a three-wave longitudinal data from 146 hospitality employees who were working and studying in hospitality. Findings – Results support the recursive relationship: abusive supervision impairs service performance and employees with low service performance provoke abusive supervision. Coworker support mitigates the lagged effect between abusive supervision and service performance and that between service performance and abusive supervision. …

JOHNSON CITY (Aug. 10, 2020) – Continuing its focus on promoting a diverse and inclusive student culture, East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy received a grant of over $45,000 to support mentoring, engagement and retention efforts for pharmacy students whose first or best language is not English (E2 students).

The project, PEER-E2, stands for Promoting Engagement, Excellence, and Retention for E2 students and focuses on six main areas:

Patient empowerment through health information technology is a relevant area in healthcare transformation; however, research has not adequately addressed how electronic health record (EHR) systems design can enhance this phenomenon in the care process. This study proposes a design artifact (EHR sharing) that focuses on empowering patients and EHR use to achieve patient centered care. Using a sample of 154 in a real-world scenario (diabetes) and a design science approach, we tested and evaluated the effectiveness of our proposed artifact for both the traditional and the current design approaches. Many organizations carry out green innovation for sustainable development, but not all are successful. Based on the technology-organization-environment framework, this study examines how prepared enterprises are for green innovation in terms of technology readiness, organization readiness, and environment readiness. It hypothesizes that the necessary and sufficient conditions along each dimension enable and facilitate green innovation, leading to competitive advantage through the mediation of environmental performance and firm performance. To test the research model, survey observations were collected from 340 companies in China. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, many child welfare supervisors suddenly were managing a virtual team with little or no preparation. Maintaining accountability when staff telework (i.e., work from home) poses challenges in defining and measuring productivity. These challenges can feel different from managing performance in an office environment. Supervisors needed to navigate between emphasizing process (how the work is done) and the achievement of specific outcomes (what gets done). This paper aims at filling existing research by examining the impact of corporate governance and ownership structure on firm performance using cross-sectional data from companies in the MENA region for the years 2009-2013. The results indicate that higher ownership concentration is associated with higher returns. Furthermore, firms with higher international ownership share tend to perform better than those with only local private and/or state ownership. The results suggest some prevalent features with respect to ownership and performance of firms in the MENA region.
