The academic community has researched expatriate work for over five decades, but the problems identified in the 1960s persist. This study focuses on the assigned expatriate, defined as an individual on overseas assignment for his or her employer. It uses qualitative semi-structured interviews and a phenomenological approach to answer questions research has largely ignored: What are the distinctive characteristics of life and work as an assigned expatriate? Gamification, the process of applying game features to non-game contexts, produces the enjoyable motivation of games outside of games. According to social exchange theory, gamification motivates by adding value to a user’s experience, which inspires action. At its core, bankruptcy prediction is a binary classification problem where a researcher attempts to model a company’s financial status, defined as either bankrupt or non-bankrupt, based upon a slew of financial ratios, market indicators and even macroeconomic variables. Several studies (Altman and McGrough, 1974; Moyer, 1977 and Mensah, 1984) have noted that such models tend to suffer reduced accuracy when predicting bankruptcy for time periods other than the one in which they were trained. A possible solution to this problem is to include macroeconomic variables in the model, since such variables fluctuate over time and are suspected of impacting …

With the advent of social media and the explosion in popularity in them, efforts to use the information contained within them has become more and more relevant. Microblogging sites such as Twitter provide a deep information network about individuals as well as our society. With the election of President Trump, and with it his increased usage of the site, unorthodox events are now part of the norm. This paper attempts to quantify the influence President Trump has on financial markets using Twitter, in addition to using economic indicators, and to predict the value of the S&P500 using these predictors.

Europe’s population is getting older; dependency ratios are set to double by 2060 and almost a fifth of the total population living in Europe are aged over 65. Such transformations and demographic change pose major challenges and potential benefits for the economy. Addressing the call in the literature for further research into the supply side of the silver economy, this research contributes to our understanding of firms’ awareness of this growing market and its economic potential. This research employs primary qualitative and quantitative data from eight regions in Europe to study how aware businesses are of the silver economy. In …
