The Role Of Year-Round Fan Engagement: A New Approach To Sport Fan Behavior, Han Soo Kim
The Role Of Year-Round Fan Engagement: A New Approach To Sport Fan Behavior, Han Soo Kim
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Fan engagement, the substantial psychological connectedness to a specific club, team, or sport itself, is in a state of rapid transformation due to the growth of digital media. For sport organizations, managing fan engagement throughout the year is important to maximizing team revenues and sponsors’ interests. While fans consume sports differently depending on the season, the focus has been primarily on fan behavior during the in-season in the sport management literature. Thus, the purposes of this study were to (1) provide a conceptual framework of year-round fan engagement by applying the season distinction approach, (2) establish the scale of off-season …

A Continuance Of Marginal Cost Methodology In Project Change Management, Jose Rincón, Daryl Ono
A Continuance Of Marginal Cost Methodology In Project Change Management, Jose Rincón, Daryl Ono
Librarian Publications & Presentations
Change management is an inevitable part in the engineering management of engineering projects so effective change management is critical to determine if the proposed changes add economic value to the project. The marginal cost methodology is proposed to effectively manage change and to parse the changes only to those which add economic value. The marginal cost methodology is valuable in engineering decision making and also facilitates statistical analysis in trade studies for applications to future projects.

The rapid pace of technological change taking place today makes it even more important for marketing educators to incorporate relevant technical and higher level meta-skills in their digital marketing courses. We review the pedagogical literature on skill development and project-based learning and detail two live course projects designed to help students develop technical skills related to digital marketing in addition to important meta-skills involving creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. We evaluate the impact of the projects through a direct and indirect assessment process. Findings suggest that live project–based learning can support the development of the technical and meta-skills necessary …
The Effect Of Low Skill Job Opportunities On Postsecondary Enrollment, Mallory Radesic
The Effect Of Low Skill Job Opportunities On Postsecondary Enrollment, Mallory Radesic
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This research examines the effect that low skill job opportunities have on the probability of enrollment in postsecondary institutions between men and women, namely the construction and manufacturing industries. The research is based on the human capital investment theory, which states that individuals will enroll in postsecondary institutions when the perceived benefits outweigh the costs. More job opportunity heightens the opportunity cost of enrollment, hence lowering the probability of enrollment. After running a probit model, there is evidence that enrollment is countercyclical and that enrollment decisions do not vary significantly between men and women. I find that a 1 percent …

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Our team will conduct secondary and primary research to analyze the business podcast industry, as well as our client Upside FM. Through extensive research on both the industry and company, we will develop a city-by-city analysis to understand the local communities, emerging business prospects, potential sponsors in the area, and competitors as well. Factoring in all the aforementioned knowledge and analyses, we will arrive at conclusions as to the optimal cities for Upside's expansion. Other recommendations will include current media competition and ways they could improve the content and structure of their business model.

Secure Network Access Via Ldap, Nicholas Valaitis
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Networks need the ability to be access by secure accounts and users. The goal of this project is to configure and expand on LDAP configurations with considerations for AAA via TACACS+ and Radius for network equipment. This will provide adequate security for any given network in terms of access and prevent lose of access to devices which happens all to often with locally configured accounts on devices.

The honors research project that I have decided to work on is with a podcast called Upside. They are a podcast about investment startups looking to saturate the country with localized emerging markets content. I am working in a group of four people to determine the best ways in which Upside can expand throughout the country. We will be conducting secondary research such as a feasibility study of localized emerging business podcasts and their underlying business models. Our group will also be conducting a city-by-city analysis based on current media competition & new business fundamentals, as well as making recommendations …
Mitigating The Security Intention-Behavior Gap: The Moderating Role Of Required Effort On The Intention-Behavior Relationship, Jeffrey L. Jenkins, Alexandra Durcikova, Jay F. Nunamaker Jr.
Mitigating The Security Intention-Behavior Gap: The Moderating Role Of Required Effort On The Intention-Behavior Relationship, Jeffrey L. Jenkins, Alexandra Durcikova, Jay F. Nunamaker Jr.
Faculty Publications
Although users often express strong positive intentions to follow security policies, these positive intentions fail to consistently translate to behavior. In a security setting, the inconsistency between intentions and behavior—termed the intention-behavior gap—is particularly troublesome, as a single failure to enact positive security intentions may make a system vulnerable. We address a need in security compliance literature to better understand the intention-behavior gap by explaining how an omnipresent competing intention—the user’s desire to minimize required effort—negatively moderates the relationship between positive intentions and actual security behavior. Moreover, we posit that this moderating effect is not accounted for in extant theories …

Purpose
The aim of this viewpoint paper is to refine the meaning of “leadership as an art” in the context of wicked (complex) social problems and in the realm of contemporary leadership research and practice.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper we explore the meaning of “leadership as an art,” a concept often alluded to but rarely defined concretely. The authors examine the concept by comparing artistic and scientific knowledge paradigms, identifying descriptors of the “leadership as art” concept appearing in the literature and illustrating key attributes of the “leadership as art” concept with real-world examples.
Findings
Leadership as an art is …

While call centers have recently invested in callback technology, the impact of this innovation on caller behavior and call center performance is not clearly understood. Using call center data from a US commercial bank, we perform an empirical study of the callers' decision-making process in the presence of a callback option. We formulate a structural model of the caller decision-making process, and impute their underlying preferences from the data. Our estimates show that callers experience substantially less discomfort per unit of time while waiting for callbacks than while waiting in queue. However, we also find that, after controlling for expected …
The Effect Of New Accounting Standards On The Performance Of Quantitative Investors*, Travis Dyer, Nicholas Guest, Jia Yin (Elisha) Yu
The Effect Of New Accounting Standards On The Performance Of Quantitative Investors*, Travis Dyer, Nicholas Guest, Jia Yin (Elisha) Yu
Faculty Publications
Quantitative investing relies on stable data generating processes and limited human involvement, which could create lower flexibility in the face of changing economic conditions. In this study, we examine quantitative investors’ ability to navigate a common and material change to the financial data generating process: new accounting standards. We find that returns of quantitative mutual funds temporarily decrease following the implementation of standards that change the definition of key accounting variables. The lower performance we document is relative to more traditional “discretionary” funds that rely heavily on human skill and judgment to make day-to-day investment decisions. Our result is predictably …

Mobile Commerce, Crowd Commerce, And Stage Models: Reviewing And Expanding On Tp Liang’S Research, Sihua Chen, Mikko Siponen, Wael Soliman, Cao Xin, Keng Siau
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we review a few key themes of Ting-Peng (TP) Liang’s research. We first discuss some of his major contributions to information systems (IS) in the areas of electronic commerce, mobile commerce, and crowd commerce. Future research directions for these three themes are also discussed in the paper. TP Liang is also an early proponent of stage models although this stream of research has yet to receive the importance it deserves in the IS community. Previous seminal theoretical accounts in IS have generally separated variance and process models, the latter is useful in modeling changes in the explanatory …

Information And Communication Technology Projects And Management Information System In Nigerian Universities: A Design Reality Approach, Odomero E. Omohwovo, Wole M. Olatokun, Ifedapo R. Ojutawo, Josephine O. Okocha
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper focuses on a design-reality gap assessment of selected information communication technology (ICT) projects in federal universities, South West of Nigeria. We determine the success and failure rates of the selected ICT projects based on the design-reality gap model dimensions: information, technology, processes, objectives and values, staffing and skills, management systems and structures, and so on. Thus, we adopt survey research design, including qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection in this paper. Moreover, we use purposive sampling technique in selecting the sample data. Five (5) heads of unit of the selected ICT projects responded to the questionnaire based …
Supply Chain Governance Mechanisms, Green Supply Chain Management, And Organizational Performance, Sang M. Lee, Donghyun Choi
Supply Chain Governance Mechanisms, Green Supply Chain Management, And Organizational Performance, Sang M. Lee, Donghyun Choi
Department of Management: Faculty Publications
While firms understand that implementing green supply chain management (GSCM) is important, they seem uncertain about how to manage their green initiatives by looking beyond their own facilities. Building a green supply chain requires the participation of all partner firms across the supply chain. However, partner firms are different in size, situation, capabilities, and even industries. Thus, encouraging them to participate in green initiatives is difficult. Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) hesitate to comply with green initiatives as they require a substantial amount of investment. This study empirically examines the causal relationship between the partnership governance mechanism and the …

Order Matters: How Altering The Sequence Of Performance Events Shapes Perceived Quality Formation, Owen Parker, Ke Gong, Rachel Mui, Varkey K. Titus Jr., Jiancheng Du, Gyebi Kwarteng
Department of Management: Faculty Publications
Reputation research often employs rankings which combine both the prominence and perceived quality dimensions of reputation. Though this approach has merit, it neglects nuances in the formation of perceived firm quality – i.e., how stakeholders perceive a firm’s capabilities. Since perceptions are influenced by how information is presented, we posit that the patterns of a firm’s performances – their order and interval – explain variance in perceived quality beyond valence (absolute performance level), alone. We employ two experiments and an archival study to manipulate product ratings and collect perceived quality scores (experimentally), and use trajectory of performance outcomes to predict …

Perceive It Or Not: Information Quality And The Investors’ Response To Earning Surprises Of Technologically Advanced Companies, Aliza Rotenstein, David Gelb, Abraham Fried, Shoshana Altschuller
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
One of the primary measures of information systems (IS) success that has been the subject of much investigation in a variety of contexts is information quality (DeLone & McLean, 1992; 2003). This paper hones in on the impact of perceived information quality in the context of the financial markets, where quality of accounting information is particularly important, as it informs investment decisions and impacts stock prices. In particular, seminal accounting research has consistently found that earnings announcements possess informational value (information content) based upon which the market reacts (Beaver, 1968). Market reaction to surprises in earnings announcements has long been …

The Future Of Api (Application Programming Interface) Security: The Adoption Of Apis For Digital Communications And The Implications For Cyber Security Vulnerabilities, Alison Munsch Phd, Peter Munsch Mba
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Businesses and consumers need to have a robust Application Programming Interface (API) management and security program in place to ensure they are using the most updated policies to certify that these transactions are adequately secure. Technology vendors do provide API Management tools for Customers, and there are established API security standards for securing API transactions. Given the effort to keep APIs open and easy to implement for Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C) communications, security standards must be part of API management.
This research gathered data to investigate why APIs are vulnerable. The research explored the different …

The Design, Development And Validation Of A Persuasive Content Generator, Sam Khataei, Michael J. Hine, Ali Arya
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This paper addresses the automatic generation of persuasive content to influence users’ attitude and behaviour. Our research extends current approaches by leveraging individuals’ social media profiles and activity to personalize the persuasive content. Unlike most other implemented persuasive technology, our system is generic and can be adapted to any domain where collections of electronic text are available. Using the Yale Attitude Change approach, we describe: the multi-layered Pyramid of Individualization model; the design, development, and validation of integrated software that can generate individualized persuasive content based on a user’s social media profile and activity. Results indicate the proposed system can …
