Interplay Between Accounting And Prudential Regulation, Jeremy Bertomeu, Lucas Mahieux, Haresh Sapra

We develop a model in which accounting information and prudential regulation interact to affect banks’ incentives to originate loans. Prudential regulators impose capital requirements to prevent banks from taking excessive risk. However, regula- tors cannot commit to ex-ante efficient intervention and, instead, respond to ex-post accounting information. We show that capital requirements and accounting mea- surement are substitutes when considered separately. By contrast, when considered jointly, accounting measurement and capital requirements are complementary tools that affect the level and efficiency of credit decisions. Comparative statics link cap- ital requirements, quality of accounting information, and regulatory intervention to credit market conditions. …

Most state rules of substantive law, whether legislative or judicial, ordinarily adjust rights and obligations among local parties with respect to local events. Conventional choice of law methodologies for adjudicating disputes with multistate connections all start from an explicit or implicit assumption of a choice between such locally oriented substantive rules. This article reveals, for the first time, that some state rules of substantive law ordinarily adjust rights and obligations with respect to parties and events connected to more than one state and only occasionally apply to wholly local matters. The goal of this paper is to investigate how COVID-19 impacted the US labor market, but more specifically how stay-at-home orders and other COVID policies adversely impacted the United States labor market. Using working papers from other economists, we can see who was so adversely affect and why. Also, how governments COVID policies impact the labor market. Using Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Local Area Unemployment data, the Center for Disease Controls Case Surveillance Public Use data, and state COVID-19 policies, I created graphs illustrating these factors. While positive social evaluations can help organizations build their reputation and social capital, negative evaluations can cause significant social and economic distress. ผลกระทบเชิงลบจากการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ต่ออาชีพต่างๆ ล้วนสร้างปัญหาต่อแต่ละกลุ่มอาชีพต่างกัน กลุ่มอาชีพนักดนตรีเป็นกลุ่มหนึ่งที่ได้รับผลกระทบอย่างรุนแรง การศึกษาในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาพัฒนาการ และการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพการทำงานของนักดนตรีในภาวะโควิด 19 2) เพื่อศึกษาผลกระทบและการปรับตัวของนักดนตรีในภาวะโควิด 19 3) เพื่อเสนอแนะแนวทางการปรับตัวที่เหมาะสมของนักดนตรีในภาวะวิกฤติ กลุ่มตัวอย่างในการศึกษาคือนักดนตรีที่ทำงานในช่วงเวลากลางคืนตามสถานบันเทิง ประกอบด้วยผับบาร์ ร้านอาหารกึ่งผับบาร์ สวนอาหาร เพื่ออธิบายถึงชีวิตความเป็นอยู่และผลกระทบที่ได้รับของนักดนตรีในช่วงโควิด 19 เลือกใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ประกอบด้วย การวิจัยเอกสารร่วมกับการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกนักดนตรีจำนวน 7 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) นักดนตรีมีสภาพการจ้างงานที่ไม่เหมาะสม เช่น ไม่มีสัญญาจ้าง ขาดความมั่นคงทางรายได้ 2) ผลกระทบหลักจากการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 คือด้านการทำงาน โดยเฉพาะการมีรายได้ที่ลดลง จากการปิดสถานบันเทิงหรือปิดกิจการสถานที่ที่นักดนตรีไปทำงาน และรูปแบบการจัดงานดนตรีเปลี่ยนไป ทำให้นักดนตรีถูกลดงานหรือเกิดการเลิกจ้าง ผลกระทบด้านสุขภาพจิต เกิดความเครียดจากภาวะว่างงาน และผลกระทบด้านการดำรงชีวิตความเป็นอยู่โดยเฉพาะภาระค่าใช้จ่ายที่ยังเท่าเดิมหรือเพิ่มขึ้น ส่งผลให้ต้องปรับตัวในวิถีชีวิตแบบใหม่ และ 3) การว่างงานของนักดนตรีที่ส่งผลต่อเศรษฐกิจทำให้มีรายได้ไม่เพียงพอในการดำรงชีวิต เกิดแนวทางการปรับตัวด้วยการหาอาชีพที่สอง เช่น อาชีพขนส่งอาหารเดลิเวอรี่ ครูสอนดนตรี ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการร้านอาหาร และเกิดการเปลี่ยนเวลาการทำงานจากกลางคืนเป็นกลางวันเป็นการทำงานที่บ้าน (Work From Home) เช่นการทำงานลงเสียงดนตรี แต่งเพลง การแสดงดนตรีผ่านทางสื่อออนไลน์เช่นเฟชบุ๊ค (facebook) การฝึกฝนทักษะใหม่ๆเพิ่ม และการประหยัดร่วมกับการลดค่าใช้จ่าย ซึ่งนักดนตรีไม่มีความแตกต่างจากอาชีพอื่น เช่น รูปแบบการทำงานที่เปลี่ยนไป เกิดการประหยัด และ วางแผนอนาคตมากขึ้น

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปัญหาด้านการจัดซื้อเครื่องใช้สำนักงานของบริษัทขุดเจาะน้ำมันที่ดำเนินการในประเทศไทย เพื่อเสนอข้อเสนอแนะในการจัดซื้อเครื่องใช้สำนักงานของบริษัทขุดเจาะน้ำมันทั้ง 3 แท่นขุดเจาะของบริษัท ABC Drilling เพื่อปรับปรุงประสิทธิภาพและเป็นมาตรฐานเดียวกัน เพื่อนำเสนอรูปแบบการจัดซื้อ (Purchasing Model) ที่มีประสิทธิภาพของบริษัท ABC Drilling และจัดทำ Organization Model ด้านการจัดซื้อจัดหา โดยเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลการจัดซื้อของปี พ.ศ.2563 เพื่อวิเคราะห์ผลงานการจัดซื้อและใช้แบบสอบถามเพื่อจัดทำข้อสรุปและข้อเสนอแนะ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การทำสัญญาจัดซื้อจัดหา (Fixed Price Agreement) ร่วมกับการทำประมูลแบบอัตโนมัติ (Automatic Bidding) ทำให้แท่นขุดเจาะที่ 1 สามารถประหยัดต้นทุน 5.39 % ส่วนแท่นขุดเจาะที่ 2 สามารถประหยัดต้นทุน 5.90 % และแท่นขุดเจาะที่ 3 สามารถประหยัดต้นทุน 8.03 % ดังนั้นเมื่อบริษัท ABC Drilling ทำสัญญาซื้อขาย (Fixed Price Agreement) ร่วมกับการทำประมูลแบบอัตโนมัติ (Automatic Bidding) จะทำให้บริษัทประหยัดต้นทุนโดยเฉลี่ย 6.44 % และผู้ให้สัมภาษณ์ทุกรายเห็นด้วยว่าควรมีการจัดซื้อแบบไฮบริด (Hybrid Procurement) โดย 85.71 % คิดเห็นว่าสินค้าหมวดหมู่ A ซึ่งเป็นสินค้าที่มีการสั่งซื้อเป็นประจำ โดยมีการสั่งซื้อสินค้าตั้งแต่ 6 รายการขึ้นไป และมียอดสั่งซื้อตั้งแต่ 20,000 บาทต่อปี ควรมีระบบการจัดซื้อแบบรวมอำนาจไว้ที่ส่วนกลาง (Centralization Purchasing) 57.14 % คิดเห็นว่าสินค้าหมวดหมู่ B ซึ่งเป็นสินค้าที่หาซื้อได้ทั่วไป ราคาถูกควรมีระบบการจัดซื้อแบบรวมอำนาจไว้ที่ส่วนกลาง (Centralization Purchasing) และ 71.43 % คิดเห็นว่าสินค้าหมวดหมู่ C ซึ่งเป็นสินค้าที่มีความเฉพาะเจาะจงและต้องตรวจสอบควรมีระบบการจัดซื้อแบบกระจายอำนาจ (Decentralization Purchasing)

การกำหนดนโยบายการสั่งซื้อวัตถุดิบ : กรณีศึกษาบริษัทผลิตและจำหน่ายผลิตภัณฑ์นมในประเทศไทย, สมใจ พิพัฒน์ผลสกุล

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อกำหนดนโยบายการสั่งซื้อที่สามารถช่วยควบคุมต้นทุนของการสั่งและต้นทุนการถือครองวัตถุดิบคงคลังให้อยู่ในระดับที่ต่ำที่สุด ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษารูปแบบการสั่งซื้อวัตถุดิบและวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลของบริษัทกรณีศึกษา ซึ่งเป็นผู้ผลิตและจำหน่ายผลิตภัณฑ์นมในประเทศไทย โดยพบว่าบริษัทมีระดับวัตถุดิบคงคลังในปริมาณที่สูงเมื่อเทียบกับสัดส่วนความต้องการใช้จริงของการผลิต อีกทั้งยังขาดเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการคำนวณวิเคราะห์ปริมาณการสั่ง โดยใช้แต่เพียงการคาดเดาและประสบการณ์ของผู้บริหารในการตัดสินใจสั่งซื้อวัตถุดิบแต่ละครั้ง จากปัญหาดังกล่าวผู้วิจัยจึงได้ประยุกต์ใช้โปรแกรมสำเร็จรูป SPSS เพื่อพยากรณ์ความต้องการใช้วัตถุดิบและทดสอบค่าความคลาดเคลื่อนเพื่อเลือกวิธีการพยากรณ์ที่เหมาะสม จากนั้นนำผลลัพธ์ค่าความต้องการวัตถุดิบที่ได้มาคำนวณทดสอบหานโยบายสั่งซื้อด้วยแบบจำลองการสั่ง 2 รูปแบบ คือ แบบจำลองจุดสั่งซื้อใหม่ (Reorder Point: ROP) และแบบจำลองระดับคงคลังเป้าหมาย (Order Up-to Level: OUL) จากผลการคำนวณพบว่าการสั่งซื้อวัตถุดิบด้วยแบบจำลองระดับคงคลังเป้าหมายเป็นนโยบายที่เหมาะสมกับบริษัทกรณีศึกษาเพราะให้ผลของค่าใช้จ่ายรวมน้อยที่สุด รวมถึงระดับวัตถุดิบคงคลัง ณ สิ้นเดือนที่ลดลงเช่นกัน เมื่อเทียบกับนโยบายปัจจุบันบริษัท สามารถลดค่าใช้จ่ายรวมต่อปีลงได้ 425,438,792.40 บาทหรือประมาณ 15.23%

Peer learning through pair programming is a type of collaborative learning that involves students working in pairs to discuss computer programming concepts or develop codes to solve problems. The Zoom breakout room method is applied to teach pair programming in a virtual classroom during the COVID-19 environment. By facilitating pair programming in a virtual learning environment, we gained valuable experience in promoting collaborative learning, active learning, and problem-based learning activities in a cloud setting.

The process when U.S. municipalities retire callable bonds early and refinance them with bonds of a lower coupon rate is called advance refunding. The advance refunding of debt is a widespread practice in municipal finance; however, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 removed the option to keep this debt tax-exempt and now requires municipalities to convert from tax-exempt to taxable. Two student pharmacists at Gatton College of Pharmacy have earned the Mitch and Barbara Cox Pharmacy Scholarship, one of the college’s most prestigious awards. The scholarships provide $10,000 to each student and includes mentoring with the scholarship founders, Mitch and Barbara Cox.
Mitch, who has managed a successful business for more than 40 years, and Barbara, who is a former biology teacher, have supported the college since its founding and in recent years created the scholarship.

This year, recipients of the Cox Scholarship are Jonathan Holan (’23), of Morristown, and Tabitha Sineath (’24), of Spring, Texas.

Cross-National Attitudes About Paid Parental Leave Offerings For Fathers, Qi Li, Chris Knoester, Richard J. Petts

Using cross-national data from the 2012 International Social Survey Programme (N = 33,273), this study considers institutional, self-interest, and ideational factors in analyzing public opinions about the provision, length, and source of paid parental leave offerings for fathers. We find substantial support for generous leave offerings. Multilevel regression results reveal that being a woman, supporting dual-earning expectations, and realizing more family strains lead to support for more generous leave offerings. Endorsing separate spheres and intensive mothering attitudes reduces support for more generous leave offerings; although, gendered attitudes interact with one another in predicting leave preferences, too. Using data on paid parental leave preferences from 35,488 adults situated within 26 different OECD countries, and multilevel modeling, this study examines public opinions about the provision of paid parental leave, some government funding of leave offerings, and preferred lengths of leave offerings. We consider how attitudes may be similar or different across social contexts and then focus upon the extent to which gender, gendered parenting role attitudes, family strains, and country-level institutionalized leave offerings are associated with leave preferences. As educators we strive to facilitate knowledge and ways of learning that serve students throughout their lives, but we also recognize their sometimes short retention span. The innovation we present in this article consists of the use of digital storytelling as a conduit for students to construct a narrative of their experience in a marketing simulation throughout the semester. We explain the innovation’s implementation as well as the results observed throughout the years in the digital stories developed by students. Finally, we discuss further applications of this innovation in other courses and future research avenues.

The goal of corporate spin-offs, as a corporate restructuring technique, is to create better value for both the divesting firm and its subsidiary/ division. These corporate transactions lead to the creation of independent, publicly traded entities, which are called spun-off subsidiaries. In this study, we examine the effect of board independence and directors’ industry experience on the market performance of spun-off subsidiaries by setting two main hypotheses. Our sample includes 123 completed U.S.-based spin-off events during a 14-year long time frame.
