Interorganisational relations are critical resources that are enablers for organisations to achieve competitive advantage. Collaborative ties provide organisations access to new markets, distribution channels, information, and present opportunities to develop or enhance capabilities and competencies. However, interorganisational ties are dynamic and susceptible to relational tensions among collaborative, coordinative, and competitive elements. As such, primarily focusing on collaborative elements between organisations presents an incomplete representation. Social relations involve elements of collaboration and conflict that are not antithetical but dialectical determinants of one another. Do Guest Worker Programs Give Firms Too Much Power?, Peter Norlander

Guest worker programs allow migrants to work abroad legally, and offer benefits to workers, firms, and nations. Guest workers are typically authorized to work only in specific labor markets, and are sponsored by, and must work for, a specific firm, making it difficult for guest workers to switch employers. Critics argue that the programs harm host country citizens and permanent residents (“existing workers”), and allow employers to exploit and abuse vulnerable foreign-born workers. Labor market institutions, competitive pressures, and firm strategy contribute to the effects of migration that occur through guest worker programs.

JOHNSON CITY (June 1, 2021)  – A group of East Tennessee State University scientists recently published their first COVID-19 related paper emerging from funding awarded to Dr. Zhi Q. Yao by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The paper, titled “Blockage of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-mediated cell–cell fusion using COVID-19 convalescent plasma,” was recently published in Scientific Reports. The funding Yao received from the ADA in 2020 was the university’s first major funding for COVID-19-specific research.

Rochelly Rivera Matos grew up speaking Spanish as her primary language in her hometown of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. 

However, language has not been a significant barrier for her at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. The third-year student pharmacist has immersed herself in student organizations and helped her peers from different cultures and languages adapt to life in East Tennessee.

He trains them for the types of situations they may face.  He provides feedback in the clinical setting.  He shares research and best practices, and he leads important exploratory discussions on the complex ethical standards that govern the profession.

Purpose – This conceptual paper focuses on a common observation in the implementation stage of rewardbased crowdfunding (RBC) – entrepreneurs’ failures and delays in delivery of rewards to investors, which, in turn, may be perceived as violations of reward delivery obligations. Design/methodology/approach – Drawing on entrepreneurial personality theory and psychological contract theory, this paper develops propositions and identifies factors related to both entrepreneurs (overconfidence and narcissism) and factors related to investors (types of motivators and psychological contracts) that may explain the perceived violations of reward delivery obligations. This study provides evidence that diversity efforts are associated with improved organizational performance. We explore the benefits of diversity by analyzing long-term shareholder value (Tobin's q) and short-term performance (return on assets) of companies cited for being leaders in the area of diversity. Tobin's q is significantly higher for companies included on the DiversityInc Top 50 list than other companies, implying that diversity efforts increase long-term shareholder value. Companies on a DiversityInc list also have significantly better short-term financial performance, return on assets, than similar companies in their industry. After finishing an undergraduate degree at another university, Adam Derrick wasn’t quite sure what they wanted to do next.  It was at this crossroad that Adam “stumbled” into the AmeriCorps program.

Adam’s first AmeriCorps assignment was in Austin working with College Forward, an organization that assisted first-generation and low-income students in setting higher education goals and helping them succeed. Adam served as a mentor to these students and loved the experience.

In an effort to combat food waste, many firms have introduced rescue-based foods (RBFs), which are made from ingredients that are safe to eat but would otherwise be wasted, often due to aesthetic issues or oversupply. Although the benefits of RBF are varied, some firms adopt strategies that highlight RBF’s waste-reduction benefits, such as reduced landfill use or lower environmental impact. This research posits that when firms adopt strategies that highlight associations between physical waste and RBF, those associations can generate negative mental imagery, which can trigger disgust and mitigate positive consumer attitudes toward RBF. Public child welfare agencies continue to face complex challenges including high workforce turnover. An examination of federal data found that, from 2003 to 2015, states experienced 14-22% annual turnover rates, with caseworkers staying on the job for an average of 1.8 years. Such turnover increases workloads for remaining workers and negatively impacts children and families. The QIC-WD is working with eight jurisdictions to better understand turnover and test interventions to improve workforce retention. As many women enter the ranks of leadership, more research is conducted and needed. Through qualitative analyses based on bibliographic research, this study aims to explore the gender differences in leadership, providing an investigation into female leadership styles and affective organisational commitment. The review and analysis of existing literature demonstrated that the transformational leadership style is more typical of females than male leaders.
