The Association for Information Systems (AIS) Teaching Curation Project aims to highlight and summarize research within the association that focuses on the major courses taught in Information Systems (IS) programs. The present literature review is a companion to a curation website specific to the introductory course in IS. In this review, we identify three major themes that pervade this literature: IS program enrollment, pedagogy, and curriculum. We use these themes to structure our summary of the research on the importance of the introductory course and various approaches to instruction. This dissertation aims to investigate the relationship between CEO humility and firm resilience, and further tackle the underlying mechanism behind the relationship. Based on upper echelons theory, this dissertation proposes that CEO humility promotes firm resilience, and the positive influence is mediated by stakeholder relationship capability. Moreover, competitive uncertainty and CEO work experience variety positively moderate the connection between CEO humility and stakeholder relationship capability. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (“DAOs”) are one of several blockchain real estate innovations seeking to provide a new path to those searching to invest in real estate. While the success of the DAO model of real estate investment is far from assured, these new investment options could offer real competition to REITs one day.

The Impact Of Stakeholder Orientation On Tax Avoidance: Evidence From A Natural Experiment, Gary Chen, Ani Manakyan Mathers, Bin Wang, Xiaohong Wang

We study the effect of stakeholder orientation on corporate tax avoidance. Using the staggered passage of constituency statutes across U.S. states between 1983 and 2006, we show that greater stakeholder orientation results in increased tax avoidance. We further find greater tax avoidance among firms with limited financial resources and that employees benefit from the change. Our results are consistent with stakeholder salience theory that resource-constrained managers prioritize the claims of salient stakeholders, such as employees, at the expense of secondary stakeholders, such as the government.

A newer development in rewards programs allows consumers to donate points rather than personally receive benefits. Research on the topic is virtually absent and represents a significant opportunity for worthy causes to receive new streams of financial support. Reward programs are uniquely characterized by hierarchical or “tiered” consumer status. Social dominance orientation represents the degree to which consumers support status inequities and is highly relevant in a reward context. In this paper, the effect of specific capital discipline policies, capital structure and capital expenditures, is measured. Financial data from 2014 to 2022 are used to measure the impact of capital discipline policies on market cap. Capital structure measured through the debt-to-equity ratio and capital expenditures were both regressed against market cap to determine correlation. The regressions were sorted according to correlation strength and then grouped based off certain firm characteristics: Market cap, Resource produced, Geographical diversity, and level of integration. It usually takes the form of a messy and chaotic environment that can cause overstimulation of the visual senses. This includes trash, advertisements, construction, electric cables, and similar objects. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are a form of artificial intelligence that use supervised learning to process and classify images. Acute poisonings from carbon disulfide are rare, but recurring exposure to low doses can have long term health effects. Currently, there are two approaches being considered for the removal of acid gas pollutants: (1) sequester these gases from the atmosphere or (2) remove these gases directly upon combustion (post-combustion). COVID-19 and the resulting lockdowns created an unprecedented upheaval in consumers’ daily lives and lifestyles. The purpose of this research was to understand the psychological experience of life under lockdowns and the role of individual difference variables in that experience. Using survey data from U.S. consumers, the research identified two opposite feelings, coexisting: happy camper feeling or unhappy prisoner feeling. Younger, lower income, and less educated consumers felt more like prisoners than campers. The authors use a qualitative data collection approach based on grounded theory. Thirteen executives, primarily from the transportation industry, were interviewed.
