The current study: (1) assesses sociodemographic disparities in local policies related to tobacco and cannabis retail, and (2) examines the cross-sectional association between policy strength and retailer densities of tobacco, e-cigarette (vape), and cannabis retailers within California cities and county unincorporated areas (N = 539). We combined (a) American Community Survey data (2019 5-year estimates), (b) 2018 tobacco, vape, and cannabis retailer locations from a commercial data provider, (c) 2017 tobacco and vape retail environment policy data from American Lung Association, and (d) 2018 cannabis policy data from California Cannabis Local Laws Database. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 18, 2023) — After years of tireless work to secure state funding for East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, ETSU celebrated success at a luncheon recognizing and thanking local legislators for their efforts.

Earlier this year, the Tennessee General Assembly approved $2.5 million in annual funding – the first state assistance for the college since its founding in 2005. Those funds enabled ETSU Gatton College of Pharmacy to lower tuition for its students, beginning this fall. For in-state students, the tuition cost to pursue a pharmacy degree is now $27,000 per year, more …

“Figuratively Speaking: Art Inspired by the Reece Museum Permanent Collection” is now on display at East Tennessee State University’s Reece Museum through Sept. 22. A reception is planned for Saturday, Sept. 9, from 1-3 p.m.  

“Figuratively Speaking” is an exhibition curated and organized by Lyn Govette, a local artist, curator and educator. Art teachers from Providence Academy and University School mentored the project, and it began with Govette selecting artifacts from the Reece Museum’s permanent collection that heavily feature or represent the human form.

In an employment context, personality tests are tools that assess candidates’ or employees’ enduring dispositional traits, for the purpose of hiring, training, or employee development. Personality is generally thought to reflect one’s authentic personal disposition and lasting mental structure (Allport & Odbert, 1936). The following dissertation consists of two studies investigating the relationships between industry controversy and accountability. In Study 1, I develop a theoretical framework for identifying industry controversy and I discuss the applications to accountability in social and environmental accounting (SEA) research. The framework consists of criteria to define industry controversy (a difference of opinion at a societal level about a routine feature) as well as two primary theories (organizational legitimacy and organizational stigma) and two secondary theories (utility attribution and stigma transfer) that can explain organizational outcomes. In these three essays, I examine the relationship between housing prices and civil disturbances. In the first essay, I examine the Ferguson Unrest in 2014 following the killing of Michael Brown. Using a hedonic model and a repeat sales model using data from ZTRAX, I find a highly significant negative affect around the events temporally and spatially. In the second essay I examine house price indices across the US during the onset of COVID and during the protests following the killing of George Floyd. This study aims to provide evidence for the impact of corporate governance and firm characteristics on the value of industrial firms. The sample includes 40 industrial public shareholding companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange during the period from 2009 to 2018, with a total of 4,670 observations included in the analysis. Corporate governance was measured through board size, female directors, board independence, audit committee meetings, and CEO duality. This to explore the problems of export documentary letters of credit faced by Jordanian banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional minor objectives included testing the relationship between these problems and each of the banks' sizes (large, medium, small) as well as their types (Islamic, traditional). This study aimed to investigate the impact of financial liberalization on foreign reserves in Jordan over the period from 1998 to 2018. Several diagnostic tests were applied, including the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) tests for stationarity. The results indicated that all-time series were non-stationary at their levels, whereas their first differences were stationary according to the Dickey-Fuller test (ADF). However, the Phillips-Perron test showed that some time series were stationary at their levels, while others were stationary at the first difference. This study aimed to investigate the impact of the rule of law on the stock price index in the Amman Stock Exchange over the period from 1998 to 2017. Several diagnostic tests were applied, such as the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test for stationarity. For essay one, we investigate the implications of organizational wireless and mobile strategy on firm performance in the context of publicly traded information technology firms in the United States. A research model is developed to examine the roles of information technology investment and chief information officer compensation in moderating the relationship between wireless and mobile strategy and firm performance. Environmental justice is an important topic that can be better understood by using the tools of economics. The author of this article describes a data integration exercise that connects data available through government portals: the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Superfund Sites Where You Live” interactive map, data on Net Present Values from Superfund Records of Decisions (ROD), and FRED. Created with the principles of backward design, the exercise uses cooperative learning by having students take ownership of sites chosen for investigation, as well as build and test hypotheses regarding the relationship between per capita GDP and site location/cleanup cost.
