Within the last decade there has been an exponential growth of community foundation- led giving days, credited in general to the ease afforded by online giving, the social media presence of nonprofits, and the sense of community these events widely impart. However, current academic literature on these events remains sparse. This article addresses this gap with a longitudinal examination of the growth of community foundation-led giving days from 2009 to 2022.

The study found only two giving days led by community foundations in 2009, peaking at 78 in 2020, and plateauing to 71 giving days in 2022. In 2020, the …

With place-based philanthropy, a foundation provides extensive, long-term support for a comprehensive mix of programs within specific communities, with the expectation that this will produce benefits at a communitywide level. One of the key questions in designing a place-based initiative is how much the foundation will control local decision-making.

In some initiatives, the foundation dictates the issues that community groups must address and/or the nature of the planning process that will be used to develop solutions. This article shares The Colorado Trust’s experience with Community Partnerships for Health Equity (CPHE) after initiating a resident-led strategy for systems change and encountering the myriad challenges to its implementation that ultimately led to exiting the initiative.

The CPHE strategy intended to fund community members directly instead of working through the nonprofit sector in the state, and thereby shift power from nonprofit organizations to residents. It eventually involved more than 20 communities across Colorado and created change in certain communities — from filling service gaps and creating local partnerships to shifting local systems.

Islamophobia and a lack of legitimacy heavily impact Muslim-led nonprofits and limit their relationships with philanthropy in the United States, resulting in an anemic, continually underfunded sector. This article explores that disconnect within a discussion of the Year of Learning, a unique series of virtual workshops that brought together foundations and nonprofits serving the Muslim American community.

Among the barriers to more effective relationships that emerged from the workshops were the presence of Islamophobia within society at large and philanthropy in particular, a hesitance among U.S. foundations to fund faith-based work, and a lack of capacity among Muslim-led nonprofits. Also …

Ninety seven percent (97%) of people between the ages of 3 and 18 are found to be users of technology and internet services daily. This number also correlates with rising cyber crime rates against people in this age bracket. It is found that people between 3 and 18 years old are found to be technologically savvy but often lack the knowledge of how to protect themselves in online environments. This study investigates the insights and criteria audit partners use to select prospective clients in an emerging market. We use questionnaires to solicit responses from a sample of auditors at the partner/manager level in Big and non-Big 4 audit firms with international affiliations in an emerging economy. Descriptive statistical tools including the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis are used for the analysis. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is Fiji’s price regulatory. If price control measures are effective, they should not contribute to inflation. This note tests the effectiveness of FCCC’s price controlling role by proposing that it does not lead to inflation. Using time-series regression models, we establish the effect of FCCC’s regulatory effectiveness and show that it contributes to a reduction in prices at least five months after regulated prices come into force. We find that inflation declines by 0.5% or 26% of the sample annualized inflation (which is 1.93%).

Does Corruption Matter On Corporate Payouts In The Covid Era?, Hasan Tekin

This article investigates how corruption (COR) and the COVID-19 (COV) pandemic affect corporate payout decisions. The sample contains 13,865 firm-years over 2012-2020 and 1,950 firms from 18 Muslim countries. Empirical findings show that neither COR nor COV drives dividends (DIV) and repurchases (REP). However, COV x COR negatively and significantly influences DIV. Namely, firms in highly corrupted Muslim countries have higher DIV during the pandemic–the picture changes in the COVID era. Particularly, firms in higher corrupt countries have higher DIV, which aligns with the substitute model of agency costs, but COR does not affect REP in the pandemic …

Underinvestment in pathology and laboratory capacity caused by low visibility in research and in prioritization by public health leaders results in limited effective healthcare coverage and an estimated 1.1 million premature deaths annually in Low-and-Middle-Income Countries. Kenya’s public health laboratories provide a median 41% of the Essential Diagnostic List to their patients and in Kisumu County, as much as 44.2% of the population has little to no access to essential diagnostics. This pilot study aims to assess the acceptability of Open University’s training platform called Gamified Intelligent Cyber Aptitude and Skills Training course (GICAST), as a means of improving cybersecurity knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours in undergraduate students using both quantitative and qualitative methods. A mixed-methods, pre-post experimental design was employed. 43 self-selected participants were recruited via an online register and posters at the university (excluding IT related courses). Participants completed the Human Aspects of Information Security Questionnaire (HAIS-Q) and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) Scale.
