Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a rapidly developed technology that has been widely applied in biomedicine especially in cancer treatment. Due to the generation of various active species in plasma, CAP could induce various tumor cells death and showed a promising potential in cancer therapy. To enhance the biological effects of gas plasma, changing the discharging parameters is the most commonly used method, yet increasing discharging power will lead to a higher possibility of simultaneously damage surrounding tissues. In this study, by adding nontoxic concentration of additional nitrite and nitrate in the medium, we found that anti-tumor effect of CAP …

Plasmonic Resonance Of Active Dimer Systems In The Presence Of Optical Binding Forces, Md Saber Nazim 2018 Arkansas State University

Plasmonic Resonance Of Active Dimer Systems In The Presence Of Optical Binding Forces, Md Saber Nazim

Student Theses and Dissertations

Optical properties of metal nanoparticles are related to the collective oscillations of conduction electrons. In metals, these electrons are loosely bound with the lattice core and therefore oscillate freely with the incident electromagnetic wave. Such oscillations are popularly known as plasmonic resonance. The term nanoparticle, in general, refers to small cluster of atoms of size ranging from one nanometer to few hundred nanometers. Plasmonic resonance in metal spherical and core-shell nanoparticles yields a number of different properties and remarkably such resonances are tunable with both the geometrical parameters of the particles involved and also with the background. When more than …

Investigation Of Itx Derivative Photoinitiators For Depletion Lithography, Ran Le, Paul Somers, Liang Pan, Xianfan Xu, Teng Chi, Bryan Boudouris

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium

Direct laser writing (DLW) with two-photon polymerization (TPP) allows for fabricating 3-dimensional nano-scale polymer structures by focusing an ultrafast laser inside a photoresist system consisting of a monomer and photoinitiator. The photoinitiator is excited by the laser and triggers the polymerization process of the monomer. Stimulated emission depletion (STED), which was designed for resolution enhancement for microscopy, could be applied to this process and inhibit the polymerization with an additional laser for depletion. This STED process can be used to increase the resolution of the 3D printing. However, the photoresist for STED-DLW should contain a photoinitiator that is sensitive to …

Mitigating Accumulation Of Aeolian Dust Particles On Solar Power Generator Panels Without Water, Sanjana Das 2018 University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Mitigating Accumulation Of Aeolian Dust Particles On Solar Power Generator Panels Without Water, Sanjana Das

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Accumulation of dust on solar panels poses a serious problem as it can significantly reduce light absorption and electrical energy output. Several factors affect the dust accumulation such as location, dust properties, wind velocity, system orientation, ambient temperature, humidity, and panel surface properties. Experimental and theoretical studies show that short circuit current and maximum power output of photovoltaic panels reduce approximately linearly with dust concentration. Incidentally, the locations with higher solar energy concentrations are also arid or semi-arid regions with higher dust concentrations. In order to avoid loss in power output, most PV installations perform periodic panel cleaning with water. …
